So wait... They are bringing him in NOW & keeping the coordinators?  The OC will be head coach in waiting?

I guess they think that other than Taggart everything is wonderful?

Ah yes, November & December.  Early sunsets, colder weather and college football coaching rumors.

I'm off to Flightaware.  Need to check which LearJets are going in and out of TLH.

I don't get it either. At the age of 56, after much success, Bob Stoops walked away from a college football blue blood, having coached more games than any coach in school history, leaving the operation in great shape for a great young mind.

Why on Earth, would Stoops, now 59, want to take over a non-blue blood that is an absolute mess, with an administration that is hard to work for and a fanbase that is slightly insane?

I just don't see it happening.

Same here. It just doesn't make any sense. In addition to what you said:

-Why would Bob Stoops take over a program mid season? One he has zero connections to?

-Why would Bob Stoops leave his XFL gig without coaching a game? Like I get its the XFL, but he's also the GM of that team. He hand picked which players he wanted including many of his former players. Now all of a sudden, he's going to leave them out to dry to coach a program that can be best described as a dumpster fire?

-His family is still in Oklahoma, including his son who plays for Oklahoma.

-I've even seen some FSU fans post about how this reporter is of the cheap click bait type.

Like, I wouldn't say its impossible, but none of this feels like Bob Stoops. I call bullshit.

He walked away because the grind was getting to him. His father died while coaching, at about the age he’s at right now. Clearly that weighed on him.

Its also clear he misses coaching. Which is why the XFL is perfect - he gets to do what he loves without the pressure and grind of a blue blood program.

I just have a hard time believing he’d jump right back in it.

FSU not a blue blood? Hmmm, what would you qualify as a blue blood Spicoli?

FSU has won NCs in - 1993, 1999. and 2013

Michigan has shared an NC in - 1997

*I don't even want to go down the path of conference championships, because that makes Michigan look even more inept.

**Seriously Spicoli, where do you come up with this shit?

Well Michigan sure as hell isn't a blue blood, and hasn't been since the early 1900's

...more BS'talk, "there are more criteria to blue bloods than NCs", you talked completely around the defining criteria, so kudos to you for trying to save face without having any insight at all! If it's win %, they were at 89% during the 90's... and yes they fell off due to poor coaching but I think they're far LESS removed from elite status than Michigan is... or you could keep looking at things through your Maize/Beer Goggles.

Just to defend myself here, because I know I'll get another few asinine responses from professional obfuscation tacticians... I don't think FSU is currently an elite position either, nor is Michigan. I'd say FSU is in a better spot to attract high end talent than we were after the Dick Rod and Joke years at this point. They're far less removed from their NC, and their conference championships. People can still remember the Bowden years, most kids playing football at Michigan have only seen us suck.

Michigan got Harbaugh because... well Harbaugh... and $$$ (money canon). No other coach around would want the UM gig without serious compensation, because it's been a place where coaches come to die (professionally speaking). Dick Rod was 1 play away from an NC before he came to Ann Arbor, now look at his career lmao. Hoke had started in a positive direction and where is he now? Harbaugh did some pretty grande things at the Cardinal and SF, now he's questionable at best.

FSU... I see as a place where good talent could come in and revive a winning tradition rather quickly. Actually wish Les Miles would have landed there, and given UF a run for their money. Competition breeds success.

I'm not saying this does or doesn't have legs, but...

"Why on Earth, would Stoops, now 59, want to take over a non-blue blood that is an absolute mess, with an administration that is hard to work for and a fanbase that is slightly insane?"

Based on your very same logic, why on earth would Stoops, now 59, want to take on a HC/GM position in a league that already failed once, is owned and ran by a lunatic riddled with controversies through the years, and is attempting to resurrect itself several years after the first failure?

If he walked away from a CFB blueblood and then walked into a position with a fledgling league ran by the guy who runs WWE, it doesn't seem so outlandish to me that he is ready to step back into coaching at a place like Florida State. FSU might be a mess right now, but they have the resources to be successful, and believe it or not, they have a little better reputation in football than the XFL.

I had felt that Stoops walked away from Oklahoma because he saw the writing on the wall...in the name of Lincoln Riley. He knew there was no way that OU would let Riley leave for another school and he just didn't want to be forced out. So, he jumped early and decided to wait for the right job. I think he still wanted to coach, but was only going to the right situation (in his mind). FSU is still a prime job. With the recruiting in Florida, you're always a QB away from being good.

I hope this happens for no other reason than some well-known Sparty fans believing Stoops would  be the “dream” hire for MSU

That would seem silly. That place is in shambles. It's not just the record it's the facilities, resources, etc. Michigan was a mess after RR but if you showed up on campus you'd think "holly shit this place is unreal".

It's not like that at FSU. Unless Bob just wants to be in warm and sunny florida I cannot imagine a worse career decision for someone who could get other jobs.

For a guy who didn’t like the stress of coaching, I’m not sure a school that fires people after less than two years is a good fit.
