Bo Scarborough to Alabama

Submitted by Webber's Pimp on

The kid had us listed in his top 2 or 3 schools. He is one of the elite RB recruits in country for 2014. Our search for a top running back continues...

He's from Alabama I believe so this isn't such a big deal. Would have been a great get oh well. Good luck to him but let's prove him wrong over the long term period.

of kids who don't have the slightest actual intention of coming here. It's a testament to the tradition we have, both athletically and academically.

Maybe this changed, but Scarborough himself said this in July:

"I know there won't be so much pressure now on me at the end," he said. "I already know the school I will attend. I haven't told the coaches yet. I plan on letting them know this week.

"I will announce between Florida, Georgia, Clemson and Alabama. I chose the school where I know I can see myself. I can see myself playing for that team and winning a national championship."

They are the black hole of recruiting. The more mass they attain, the higher their gravitational pull. Eventually, tuscaloosa will cave in on itself, pulling the rest of the world in with it, killing us all and fulfilling ancient mayan prophecy.

I still don't get why Michigan can't pull in top flight running backs.  For a school that's all but screaming WE WANT TO RUN THE BALL, they really struggle to grab RBs that are in the top 20 of their position.  And have struggled for years.  Just baffling to me.

I don't quite understand how 247's composite ranking thing works.  At his position, Scout has Smith ranked #10, 247 at #16, ESPN at #29, and Rivals at #31.  That comes out to an average of 21.5, not 14.  Either way, Smith isn't one of those consenses top backs that I was talking about.  A guy like Derrick Green is, but all signs have him headed to Auburn.

For the last couple of years Denard has been the running game.  Last year was a step in the right direction with Fitz toting the rock for over 1000yds.  But once the pro style offense starts to take hold and the O-line recruits from the last couple of classes start bullying defenses, then we'll probably have RBs beating down the door.

Sam Mcguffie- Ninth best RB in his class rated by Rivals. Brandon Minor- Rivals top ranked fb, Carlos Brown- Top 50 overall player and Rivals 5th ranked RB. Jerome Jackson- 15th best RB in nation by Rivals Max Martin- same as Jackson That's a few I found in two minutes in the last decade, sure not 5 stars but highly rated RB recruits. Sometimes those stars aren't as shiny as they look.

I meant a really elite level recruit, hence "blue chip." The backs you list were all good recruits , but none of them were really world-beaters or anything (Minor was Rivals' #109 player and ESPN's #34 RB, for instance, definitely good but not what I would consider "elite"). Of course Michigan can land good/solid RBs, but I was just saying that RB seems like a position where Michigan seems to have strangely struggled to get a really top-tier level recruit.

And I am talking about just landing recruits, so the "sometimes those stars aren't as shiny as they look" doesn't really apply, and the idea that the star ratings don't matter is a debate this board/blog has had plenty of times.

You guys do realize that Brady Hoke has only been here a little over a year and a half and there is still a possibility to land Derrick Green. Give the man some time and realize that this staff has nothing to do with past recruiting misses. Patience and enjoy this season, it's game day FERGODSAKES!

I was just saying going back to like maybe Anthony Thomas, Michigan really hasn't had that many (or any) studs at RB.  And for a school that likes to run the ball (even with RichRod) and considers itself an elite football school, its just odd to not have many.  Hopefully Hoke changes that, but losing on Ty Issac hurts, and I don't think Green is coming here either.  The kid has SEC written all over him.

I was talking more about the top 20 guys.  Of which there are...20 every year.  For a top 25 program, that likes to run the ball, you'd think we'd be pulling in 1 a year, and we're not.  We're getting a fringe 20 guy like once every three years.

Brown Bear just listed a bunch of them. Top 20 players overall who are running backs? The only guys who be in there are the 2-3 5* running backs I mentioned. And again...most of them aren't from around here, are they?

The kid's from Alabama, although it blows my mind why anyone would want to play for Saban.  Doesn't the state of Michigan have any top talent at RB in 2014?

So how many of these elite 4- and 5-star RBs crowding their backfield are going to end up finishing their careers at Alabama? I foresee at least one suspicious release for medical reasons and a transfer or two. With good young RBs already on campus (Yeldon, Hart, and Fowler), two elite backs committed for the 2013 class, and now Scarborough, there aren't going to be enough carries to go around!
