Blue pants vs BGSU per Mason Graham
Michigan football uniform combination for Bowling Green
Michigan sophomore defensive tackle Mason Graham told TheWolverine.com Tuesday evening that the Wolverines will wear blue pants for Saturday night’s game against Bowling Green. The team practiced with blue bottoms Tuesday.
Michigan has gone with its classic look — blue tops and maize pants — each of the first two games. The Wolverines wore blue pants in three of eight home games a season ago — against Penn State, Michigan State and Nebraska. They also went with the look in a Big Ten championship game win over Purdue.
Michigan is 11-1 all time with blue pants, including a perfect 7-0 mark at home. The lone loss came against Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Orange Bowl in 2021.
Michigan and Bowling Green will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET, marking the Wolverines’ 14th-ever home night game. The program is 11-2 in primetime games at The Big House.

I love the blue pants. They look great with both jerseys.

Wish they saved Blue + Blue exclusively for big home games.
It's cool to see the contrast in a maize-out.

Agree - no need to hype BGSU
But then again I think we are getting the Disneyesque light show Saturday night.
September 13th, 2023 at 8:43 AM ^
100% agree. Save the all blue unis for home games against osu, msu, Big ten title games, ect.
IMO wearing them against bowling green doesn't really give them a mental edge.

It will for the second and third stringers...who will probably get a good amount of PT

Blue pants check
2021: Washington, Wisconsin, Maryland, Ohio State, Iowa, Georgia
2022: Iowa, Penn State, MSU, Nebraska, Purdue
Other than the Georgia CFP, Michigan has won and covered the spread in every game. Michigan -40.5 is a lock this weekend.

I doubt we score 40 points Saturday night. With the new clock rules, I can see us working on our run game and turning the game over in the second half to our backup QBs to try and establish our #2 before B1G season.
I'm not scared of Rutgers, but for three straight years, they have made halftime very uncomfortable. I think we'll try to get these run game issues resolved before we face our first (and maybe best) defense before PSU.

I agree with you on the clock rules, however BGSU is statistically the worst defense out of the 3 cupcakes and the 1st stringers will be good for 30-35 points on their own through 3 quarters as we have seen.
Weird side note comparative to last season's cupcake blowouts, the defense/special teams has not forced many turnovers, scored a TD, or given the offense good starting field position other than Sainristil's INT vs. ECU around mid-field. With how the defense has played so far, I wouldn't be shocked if there is finally a non-offensive score/short-field starting drive for Michigan this weekend which would help the spread.
Sounds like this weekend is Orji's chance at #2 QB as well. He has the highest upside of them all and if they are going to try and find JJ's backup, they may throw the whole bag out for Orji in the 4th Q which again, helps the 40+ point spread.

I’m not scared of Rutgers either. But, after 3 glorified scrimmages I look for things to be a little, WTF, at the beginning. Schianno quietly has them playing pretty well thus far.

We also wore blue pants for the home night game against Penn State in 2014. Hoke's last season (which was a shit show) but we did win this game. Maybe it was the blue pants.

Why is *this* the night game?
September 12th, 2023 at 9:38 PM ^
Purdue also under the lights unless it gets flexed which I really hope happens. Two night games in person (BGSU, MSU) is two too many for this middle aged alumnus. <Yells at cloud>

Noo!!! I'm going to the Purdue game with my kid, I want it at night... It'll be my first time back in the Big House since Bo's last game against OSU.
How sad is that, anyway??

Because BTN has primetime slots to fill just like any other network.
September 12th, 2023 at 10:05 PM ^
Because night games don’t equal big games otherwise The Game would be a night game every year
September 13th, 2023 at 6:52 AM ^
If The Game were held in a warmer venue in late November, it probably would be a night game. They've done it with msu game.

I've been noticing a lot of out-of-town/state students' parents coming to the games this year--increasingly more than last year and the year before, just steadily upticking.
Could be something with making something exciting for them/their kids now that UM is consistently nationally relevant--never underestimate the influence of parents and their $$$ for branding/reputation/etc.

Remember when we were all beside ourselves for the FIRST NIGHT GAME ever against Notre Dame? We even gave it a name. And then we gave the 2nd one a name. Those were the days.

those days just remind me of Hoke Claps. So glad where we are today

Clappity clap clap - I miss the Hoke claps but do not want to do a 180 back to the Hoke era.
September 12th, 2023 at 9:48 PM ^
Wait, did I miss something? Was the ‘22 game against MSU named Under the Tunnel I? Or would it have been Under the Tunnel II, Sparty Strikes Back?

Man. the atmosphere at that game was something else, after Denard and Roundtree completed the comeback the elation in the stands just would not go away. I didn't get home until 2am the next morning.
Electric!

I know I'll get downvoted, but that's ok. I can't wait for the shiny pants to return! It's been way too long. Any day now one team will bust 'em out and the rest will follow.

I still maintain white tops with blue pants is the best combo, by far.
September 12th, 2023 at 11:16 PM ^
I agree. They somehow look meaner, IMO, and the bits of maize on the helmets and shoulders just pops.
September 13th, 2023 at 8:11 AM ^
Can we call them jerseys and not tops. Tops sounds like an outfit your wife wears.

I want you guys to understand something. Traditions are great. If they are great. When it comes to football pants, yellow sucks. As much as those yellow pants have meant to you, they were not as good as they could be. There have been good times with yellow pants. The best of times with yellow pants. But that doesn't mean that if our pants were blue, that those times wouldn't be even better. Not only that, but as the world turns, those best of times would become even more hallowed out memories. Anamneses of the yellow pants.
September 13th, 2023 at 8:56 AM ^
Yellow pants are terrible. Maize pants, however, are great.
September 13th, 2023 at 9:13 AM ^
Our pants, are yellow, not maize. Maybe they need to be changed to maize.
September 13th, 2023 at 1:30 AM ^
After 42-27 the blue pants are here to stay and.... I'm ok with that.
September 13th, 2023 at 5:23 AM ^
Can we not use the phrase "practiced with blue bottoms". "Pants" is a perfectly cromulent word.
