The biggest mismatch in the game is not Bateman vs. Gray
The biggest mismatch in this game is now Paye vs. true freshmen RT aireontae Ersery. This is a 2nd round NFL pick going against a kid who was not only just in high school, but not rated high anyway. He was rated the #966 recruit overall, #79 OT. This should be a HUGE, HUGE mismatch that Paye (or Hutchinson) need to absolutely dominate and hit Morgan early and often. .

I like this kind of football news. Please post more of this!

2nd round? 2ND ROUND!?
October 22nd, 2020 at 3:06 PM ^
Where has it been reported that a true freshman is starting at tackle?
October 22nd, 2020 at 3:21 PM ^
Probably a combination of an inference from that post about the Minnesota OL possibly being out and whatever information there is on the Minnesota boards.

Where has it been reported that a true freshman is NOT starting at tackle? Your move, Tom...

From 247, Ryan Burns of GopherIllustrated has the lineup looking like this. Apparently, LT, OC and RT would have 90 total starts.
LT: Sam Schlueter
LG: Conner Olson
Center: John Michael-Schmitz
RG: Axel Ruschmeyer
RT: Blaise Andries

This is really welcome news. If we can get pressure with our front 4, then the RPOs become more manageable. Let's hope our DL gets it done!
October 22nd, 2020 at 4:41 PM ^
His “10 things” article also says Michigan has “an entirely new back seven”, which... do you even journalist?
October 22nd, 2020 at 3:07 PM ^
Blitz pickups might also be an issue on that side of the line. I'm sure they'll give him plenty of help, though.
Maybe the Gopher passing game resorts to dink and dunk to mitigate pass pro issues.
October 22nd, 2020 at 4:04 PM ^
Just like I hope whoever defends Bateman gets help!
October 22nd, 2020 at 4:31 PM ^
I hope he doesn't have time to get open.

I've been feeling like Michigan is going to blow out Minnesota since I saw them on the schedule.
This team could also be anything so who knows, but thank you for giving me a reason to double down.
October 23rd, 2020 at 3:53 AM ^
I would have said that's just homerism, but now it seems like Minnesota has A LOT of guys out due to COVID and injuries. I can't say I'm worried about this game anymore. Michigan should absolutely win.
October 22nd, 2020 at 3:11 PM ^
He’s a first rounder on the all-name team though.
October 22nd, 2020 at 4:54 PM ^
1st round or bust.

MIKEY LIKEY

Unless Paye really drops the ball this year, he's going to be a 1st rounder. He's a combine maniac and could potentially run a sub 4.6 40 and sub 6.35 cone drill at the combine. Hope he's worked a bit on his speed rush and getting around the edge
I think the key to this game is going to be our ability to run the ball. If we can keep the clock running, moving the ball down the field in the bad weather, and keeping the ball out of Minnesota's offense's hand we should be able to win this game
October 22nd, 2020 at 4:29 PM ^
Kwity could have a hell of a season and still go in the 2nd or 3rd.
This is a minor expectations quibble. I think he'll have a great year and go high, but I've also seen the first rounder expectations blow up a thousand times for different guys over the years for all kinds of reasons other than the player dropping the ball.
October 22nd, 2020 at 5:09 PM ^
While that's true, it's pretty rare for hyped up physical freaks to drop a lot in the draft, especially if they show out at the combine
October 22nd, 2020 at 3:26 PM ^
Minnesota's system makes his job easy for him in pass pro though. They dink and dunk and never really give the rush a chance to get there. I'll take Paye and Hutch caving the line so our LBs can cover all the slants and crossing routes.
October 22nd, 2020 at 4:15 PM ^
They don't dink and dunk, they do or did a ton of RPO. They try and take what the defense gives them. If that tackle can't hold the end long enough for the QB to make the correct read, they'll have a long evening.
October 22nd, 2020 at 4:26 PM ^
Mostly, yes, and their experienced QB should have room to place the ball against our overmatched CBs. The good news is that Minnie does like the occasional change-up deep shot, and this makes those attempts more problematic.
But our CBs are a problem.

This is beneficial Michigan mismatch actually could offset the mismatch in Minnesota's favor, just got to take advantage, DEs gotta go off on them
October 22nd, 2020 at 3:42 PM ^
Licensed to kill gophers, by the government of United Michigan Nations. Paye, free to kill gophers at will. As a killer you most know your enemy and in this instance my enemy, is a varmint. And a varmint, will never quit. Ever. They're like the Viet Cong. Varmint Cong.
So what you gotta do? You gotta fall back on superior blitzing and superior aggression. And that's all she wrote.
October 22nd, 2020 at 6:49 PM ^
Tell me if I’m wrong, Sandy, but if I kill all the golfers, they’ll put me away and throw.away the key.
October 22nd, 2020 at 3:44 PM ^
Per Neck Sharpies earlier this week, Minnesota gets the ball out really quickly, so don't get your hopes up!
October 22nd, 2020 at 5:01 PM ^
Believe they allowed quite a few sacks last year. Looking for exact number but it was middle of the road if I recall.
October 22nd, 2020 at 4:02 PM ^
There's no reason Paye and Hutch can't pressure Morgan and make him uncomfortable. We should get pressure with 4. If not Morgan will chew us up.
October 22nd, 2020 at 4:23 PM ^
Cpt Morgan will be running for his life...... GO BLUE
October 22nd, 2020 at 4:58 PM ^
If they must start a true freshman at tackle I expect more running plays and quick routes for Morgan to get the ball out quickly. The dreaded crossing routes that don't take long to develop.
October 22nd, 2020 at 5:03 PM ^
You mean the crossing routes that make Brown turn into coach Kline with his defense for dummies book?

Your so full of shit. Paye is a 1st round pick!!
October 22nd, 2020 at 5:15 PM ^
Keep saying he's a UDFA. I'm sure he's reading this. Make him mad. Have him play angry and destroy all gophers - uniformed, furry, on golf courses, everywhere.
October 22nd, 2020 at 5:13 PM ^
Is there a risk that Minn says "we can't field a team" and begs to postpone? How many guys are they down in total? Cases or simply exposed and in isolation?
October 22nd, 2020 at 7:18 PM ^
In the Auburn game dude was allowed to line up like 2 yards deep and got totally destroyed by Auburn’s DEs. Shit not happening vs Paye.
October 23rd, 2020 at 12:54 PM ^
So what you're saying is that this will make John Runyan's first game against ND look like an all-pro performance.
I like.
