Benjamin St-Juste is now ranked 3* on Rivals.

No service is going to consistently put their scouting team against his and disagree.
Not saying you're wrong, but we do still have 4 Rivals 2-star commits listed. They haven't gotten their bumps yet.
Michigan is a blue-blood major program. We're entitled to that extra star bump IMO.
No, I don't think he'll be a 4-star.

I don't know enough to agree or disagree, but what do you think is the major barrier?
The major barrier is the U.S.-Canada border. St-Juste does not play against good competition, and he does not look particularly good when playing against not-good competition.
This is not EA Sports NCAA Football.....The kid is not playing against any real competition...
I look at his film... He does not have as much fluidity than some of the DB I have seen... It is his height and his potential is what brings him out... I do agree that there isn't much to make a clear evaluation but from what I have seen..... Well, I see he could become a good DB but I do not think he will reach a 4* at the end of signing day
white kid out of Canada to play basketball...
That said, I doubt he would jump to 4* unless he goes to a ton of camps and dominates.
I agree that the filming is done poorly, but unless they simply forgot to record all of his awesome plays, there really aren't any.
I would be an idiot to think that I know more about St-Juste based on film than the coaches know based on film, in-person evaluations, etc. But that doesn't mean the coaches are 100% right.
We casual observers do have an idea what position plans the Michigan staff have for him. It's really not rocket science. He's not going to be a quarterback, an offensive guard, a middle linebacker, a defensive tackle, etc. There is a very small number of slots where he can fit at the next level.
There wasn't anything personal against you in my post. I may not find your analysis 100 percent right either, but some may.
My point is the limited film tells us less than an in-person performance review. The Michigan staff knows more because they had both film and time personally coaching the young man.
I'm not offended at all. I just think your points are sort of inconsequential. Yes, Jim Harbaugh is better at evaluating talent than I am, and he also had more opportunity. And yes, we do have an idea of what position St-Juste will play.
But the counter to this argument is that it is highly unlikely he looked demonstrably different in person than he looked in his highlight real. But right now, he's a bigger DB without amazing athleticism or speed. That's fine; he can play boundary corner or could grow into a decent safety given his frame. But Michigan doesn't have a huge number of speedy corners coming in, and so it does seem like a bit of a stretch to take an early flyer on the kid. I'm happy he's at UM and hopefully he'll fit in and find a place to play, but it's not like football coaches have a monopoly on analyzing football players and the needs of their teams.
In-person evaluation of what? They haven't seen him do anything but play 7-on-7 football.
Based on your assessment, then why was this kid offered?
I guess it's because they think he can be good at football and do the things that a cornerback should be able to do.
Well four stars Canadian is only worth like 3.5 American.
Northern Canada or Southern Canadian speed???
Southern Canada...
SEC speed.
South East Canada.
Windsor is south of Detroit so any Windsor prospect must be fast as its southern speed period. *
*Before you count the CAN-US conversion rate of course.
All I can say is that Tim Biakabatuka had Longueuil speed, but of coruse he was a running back so it's rather different.
What I am rather intrigued to see is how being in the Quebec CEGEP system will mesh with the requirements for Michigan. I don't know that we've taken someone straight out of such a school yet.
Canadian stars will be on par with American stars, just like the dollar.
Although it would be more fitting if St-Juste was from Alberta.
Not, who doesn't think he'll be...

It is amazing how just a few hrs of a Michigan camp can get these no stars and 2 stars up an entire level or two in starz. The coaching at these camps is just unbelievable - the rapid improvement of player skills in just a few hrs is equivalent to a full year of HS coaching. Just imagine once our coaches get them for 3 whole practices instead of 1 camp! 5-6-7 stars will be eveywhere. It's amazing!!!
(Or its just recruiting services catering to large fan bases)
Michigan is very close to leapfrogging MSU's "monster" recruiting class in the rankings.
My Weiner is now Ranked 3 Stars, Borderline 4 Stars!!!! Who is Excited?????
Figures. You finally commit and now everyone's interested.
Four FAKEs out of five.
........size will be a problem at the next level. :-)
