Is it really Harbaugh finding gems or is it just lazy recruiting sites slapping generic 3 star labels on anyone they haven't seen who commits to a major university?

Just about everyone that commits to Jim Harbaugh will at least get three stars. He's an Orange Bowl winning, NFC Champion, three time NFC Championship Championship game participant.

No service is going to consistently put their scouting team against his and disagree.

The major barrier is the U.S.-Canada border. St-Juste does not play against good competition, and he does not look particularly good when playing against not-good competition.

I look at his film... He does not have as much fluidity than some of the DB I have seen... It is his height and his potential is what brings him out... I do agree that there isn't much to make a clear evaluation but from what I have seen..... Well, I see he could become a good DB but I do not think he will reach a 4* at the end of signing day

I would be an idiot to think that I know more about St-Juste based on film than the coaches know based on film, in-person evaluations, etc. But that doesn't mean the coaches are 100% right.

We casual observers do have an idea what position plans the Michigan staff have for him. It's really not rocket science. He's not going to be a quarterback, an offensive guard, a middle linebacker, a defensive tackle, etc. There is a very small number of slots where he can fit at the next level.

Relax and read what I wrote.
There wasn't anything personal against you in my post. I may not find your analysis 100 percent right either, but some may.
My point is the limited film tells us less than an in-person performance review. The Michigan staff knows more because they had both film and time personally coaching the young man.

But the counter to this argument is that it is highly unlikely he looked demonstrably different in person than he looked in his highlight real.  But right now, he's a bigger DB without amazing athleticism or speed.  That's fine; he can play boundary corner or could grow into a decent safety given his frame.  But Michigan doesn't have a huge number of speedy corners coming in, and so it does seem like a bit of a stretch to take an early flyer on the kid.  I'm happy he's at UM and hopefully he'll fit in and find a place to play, but it's not like football coaches have a monopoly on analyzing football players and the needs of their teams.

"The first thing that stood out to me was his size," Howard said. "He's a legitimate 6'3" and with a helmet and cleats, he looks all of 6'4"-6'-5". The other thing that stood out immediately about him was that he is definitely a true cornerback. When we first started working, he asked if he should be working with the safeties. I don't think he even realized he has the athleticism and length to play the cornerback spot at a high level. He showed excellent footwork and played with a very low pad level for someone of his size as well. He was very impressive. Definitely believe he could come in and make an immediate impact," he said. "His versatility was great. He matched up with all different kinds of receivers throughout the day and dominated both types. With some time in the weight room and a greater understanding of what D.J. Durkin wants to do defensively, I really believe could be someone that could play very early in his career."

safety to me. I think they see a big frame and some athleticism with a serious chip on his shoulder. I did not see the footwork to put him on an island. As far as rankings go a personal evaluation and offer from the UofM staff is much more in depth than the sites are giving 2 star kids. I would expect them all to be 3 stars.

All I can say is that Tim Biakabatuka had Longueuil speed, but of coruse he was a running back so it's rather different.

What I am rather intrigued to see is how being in the Quebec CEGEP system will mesh with the requirements for Michigan. I don't know that we've taken someone straight out of such a school yet.

It is amazing how just a few hrs of a Michigan camp can get these no stars and 2 stars up an entire level or two in starz.  The coaching at these camps is just unbelievable - the rapid improvement of player skills in just a few hrs is equivalent to a full year of HS coaching.  Just imagine once our coaches get them for 3 whole practices instead of 1 camp!  5-6-7 stars will be eveywhere. It's amazing!!!

(Or its just recruiting services catering to large fan bases)
