Basketball: Chet Holmgren, the #1 player and Center, got his first crystal ball from Travis Branham (247 sports) today for Gonzaga.

If you have followed basketball recruiting there have been a lot of whispers about Gonzaga but this is the first time someone has put it down as a prediction.

Also, Hunter Sallis, the number 6 player in the country out of Nebraska is also a lean to Gonzaga. Hes a combo guard.

Looks like Few may load back up for next year. I'm not sure on their roster composition for next year but Suggs is lost likely gone to the NBA. These 2 would fill a nice void for them either way. They already have to guys 6'8 210 lbs committed. Both are top 70 players.

He looks scrawny and I expect he'll get pushed around next year.  I like HD's game a little better.

Once Chet gets in a proper college training program, I agree his game will evolve nicely, but I don't see him as instant impact or 1&D.

At center you might be right but every NBA scout thought KD would get pushed around and outmuscled as well and always cited his horrific bench as needing to get stronger.  He did none of that and still flourished.

To be honest, Chet reminds me of Porzingis which is huge upside but I worry more about him getting injured than pushed around.  His intangibles are off the chart if he stays healthy.  He already shows nice outside touch that you would covet in a stretch 5 role.  Putting on the weight should be the easy part in a top basketball conditioning program I would think.

Chet plays like a wing. He only plays center in HS because that's a natural position for him in high school where size varies wildly school to school and he can dominate on the inside. In college, he'll be like a forward first and a center second (to mix things up).

Chet has done well in AAU and the NBAPA100 camp against similarly talented competition.

Here's the famous clip of Chet besting Steph Curry on a shake-and-bake. That's not your typical big man. Like some have said, he's a unicorn like Porzingis.

I'm hoping Branham's Gonzaga CB will end up incorrect. (I know he has a 98% accuracy rate. Here's hoping he has another rare miss.)

It seems Chet is deciding between Gonzaga and Michigan.

I don't know if Franz leaves after 2 seasons or plays 3 seasons in a Michigan uniform like his brother did.

But I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a Holmgren-Houstan-Wagner-Diabate-Dickinson line-up.

Believe it or not, 7' Chet Holmgren can play like a point forward. (He does that for his high school time to time.) If I'm Coach Juwan Howard, I use that as one of the major selling points. I would let Holmgren periodically play as a 7' point guard and let him initiate the offense in transition or in the half-court.

He’s definitely not a forward. He doesn’t have the shot creation as a 7’ footer to play forward. He can be a playmaking center a la Jokic but he still needs weight to be a 5 long term. I know he can dribble a little bit in an open gym or playing high school kids but this kid will not be the guy setting up the offense. Very talented overall and don’t want to limit the prospect but a point forward just isn’t there.

"He’s definitely not a forward. He doesn’t have the shot creation as a 7’ footer to play forward."

I'm disagree. I've watched him play a few times and I think he can do it. He shouldn't be the primary PG for a team but there's no reason why he can't function like a taller Shaun Livingston.

One of the best things his coaches ever did was make sure he had guard skills. He talked about it in a SLAM (or Ball is Life) video iirc.

Few isn't really used to these one and done players so it'll be interesting to see how things go with these players going forward. Suggs is a 1st rounder this year and I dont think Chet will be around for a 2nd year either. Sallis most likely won't either. It'll be a new environment for Few. What he will have the luxury of, much like this year, is adding this talent to upper classmen.

I've been a Gonzaga fan since their first Elite 8 run and obviously a Michigan fan from before that. Watching Gonzaga this year they are huge and talented across all positions. Their center can move and has a bit of forward to his game. Like an older Hunter Dickenson with a bit more to his game. Suggs is a stud and the rest of the team is loaded.

I think Michigan would lose by double digits.

Few is a great coach who has been running a clean program for decades. Happy to see a school like Gonzaga, which is tiny and located outside of the typical P5 orbit do so well for so long.

His HS team mate was Jalen Suggs, so i am sure he has put in a good word.

This would be a big loss for Minnesota - I know there has been some whispers about Michigan, but i think they fell back with the verbal of Diabate (though they are different positional players).

Sallis would be a big loss for Nebraska and Hoiberg - who I think is a pretty good coach.

If Few got them both, that would be a huge class for them...easily the best ever.

yeah, i don't know too much about Gonzaga's scholarship challenges... "First World" problems though, as I am sure Few will figure something out if that comes to pass.

I am sure Michigan is continuing to stay in touch with a few of the remaining players like Holmgren as well...And if one did want to come, Michigan would probably try to find a way to make it happen.

Tarkanian is a hero if you ask me.

He hated the NCAA before it was fashionable to do so. In fact, he took the NCAA to court (all the way to the Supreme Court) and kinda won. (It's complicated.) He played a major role in changing public perception about the NCAA as a corrupt institution.

And he was a masterful defensive coach. I've read from people who would know that he used to dedicate most of practices (around 2/3 to 3/4) to teaching defense.

The guy went 122-20 at Long Beach State. Again, Long freaking Beach State. LBS hasn't had that level of success since Tarkanian left for UNLV and made UNLV into an excellent program.

Well if he was watching Teske with Beilein, and the contrast of Dickinson with Howard, and as a true freshman mind you, then he should be floored by the coaching Dickinson is getting, and should strongly consider playing for Howard...

Despite the title here, which is understandable given 247’s positional listing, Chet is very much not a center and probably wouldn’t be swayed too much by watching Hunter bang down low. Totally a wing in play style. The definition of a unicorn.

Not to thread-jack, but UNLV commit top 50 player Zaon Collins just got arrested for a DUI. Frankie Collins just posted some pictures with him on his Instagram story and seemed frustrated and disappointed so I hope he's not involved as it appears they're close

Wow. Is vehicular homicide the highest charge he can face?

Edit

DUI-related vehicular homicide and is one of the most serious charges a Nevada driver can face for allegedly causing a car accident. Vehicular homicide charges are punished by 10 to 25 years in prison, and may or may not include the possibility of parole after 10 years.

I watched the game earlier this season that featured Chet's team vs Emoni Bates and his prep school.

I feel anybody that watched that game came out believing Chet is definitely a better prospect.  Both in terms of impact on the court and leadership.
