Barwis looks to have handed on his feet

Submitted by SteelCityMafia on

Not that we didn't think he would, just, you know...moving those wolves could be a pain in the ass.

Anyway, it looks like he has indeed found out his next gig.  Good news! It could be you! I, for one, am interested to see some of the stuff he will have people do and will probably try this out in the near future.

Sorry if this is old, but I searched and didn't see anything on this.  Enjoy.

Very very interesting that he's sticking around town and that his staff appears to be doing the same. Hope he succeeds. Wonder if he'll be working with NFL players or HS kids and where (as in what facility) is he doing his training out of.

BTW.....any word from any of you who frequent Schembechler Hall about whether the new S&C guy is requiring a makeover of the weightroom the way we had to when RichRod and Barwis took control.

Barwis has had this up for a couple of years.   It does look like he is still doing some events.   I think the site still states that he is S and C Director for us.

I may have turned my brain off for the weekend. Where in this link does it say exactly what he is doing. It makes it sound like he is still the S&C for Michigan, unless I'm having issues finding the info.

says he's still S&C Director at Michigan.

I know he's been replaced as S&C coach for football, but is he still running S&C operations for all programs or did I miss something?

I'm glad he setting up shop in AA.  Although he probably doesn't need it, I wish him the best of luck.

Barwis was not responsible for other sports at Michigan.  He and his staff were only responsible for football, although he choose to help out directly with hockey, men's soccer, hockey and some with men's lacrosse (which is how I know this).  There is a guy there named Mike Favre who is responsible for strength and conditioning for all sports other than football, and I get the sense that he and his staff don't really coordinate what they are doing with the football strength staff at all.

My satire detector isn't the Red Ryder model, so I can't tell which of these posts are tongue-in-cheek.

That's simply a static site that hasn't been updated.  Barwis was  paid WAAAY too much to continue as the S&C for non-revenue sports.  Since Hoke has his own S&C, unless Mike is willing to take a HUGE paycut, he'd be better off somewhere else, where his talents would be  put to use working with atheletes that put paying butts in seats.

Barwis always lands on his feet. You can toss him in the air and flip in any way and he somehow twists around and plop! ON his feet. It used to be a sort of trick he would use to help land recruits -- much like the big rubber ball that he would balance on.

Not exactly novel because I'm late to the party, but:

I was expecting this thread to have pictures in which Barwis is seen either (1) racing out of town walking on his hands [you know: because he can], or (2) grabbing his feet with his hands such that his body forms a yoga-like ball that can be used as an indestructible chew toy for his wolves.

But alas... typo.

Mike Barwis is still in the Ann Arbor area (but not at U of M).  His company, Barwis Methods, has been around for a couple of years now.  The site, as some have noted, needs a few updates, etc. , but is still active.  Mike has workout programs available on the site, as well as training equipment.   A hockey training video is also in the works, along with other videos such as speed training, balance and functional training, and plyometric, explosive and impulse training.

As you can imagine, as a very highly-regarded strength and conditioning coach, Mike has a number of options on the table that he is considering. I'll keep you posted and let you know when there's something to share.
