Back of the Scoreboard?
They're clearly lifting and putting things on the back of the North scoreboard at Michigan Stadium, but you can't tell what from the Stadium Cam. Can anyone on the ground in Ann Arbor give us an update or a picture?
Sorry if this is too OCD. I need to start taking my meds more frequently. But it would answer a lot of questions about what the backs of the scoreboards will look like.
is a casing surrounding the scoreboard. Id hope its a block m (without the script through it like before). I do know the last time i rode my bike down there one of the boards was finished with still a few feet around it for the enclosure.
I was just thinking the same thing, doubt it will be brick.
My second pick would be a solid block M (maize).
Off topic but just got my Notre Dame ticket packs and singles but not my season tickets. I stay in west Michigan so keep a lookout for yours.
the wife just sent me a picture message of my tickets as well. (location Grand Rapids area).
My package came today in the Chicago area!
what she said.
It will have an electronic ticker tape with information about where to buy tickets, apparel, and other things Michigan.
No one said anything about advertising OUTSIDE the stadium. :)
Edit: I'm sorry, was that offensive to trees?
Is that black piece along the bottom on the front or back? I can't really tell. Could they be adding MORE screen to the scoreboards?
I want to say the bottom pieces are speakers or possibly a scrolling marquee portion of the board that is separate from the screen.
that is "scoreboard"...you can see it in the rendering as the strip that will display score and whatnot.
That's great... Can't wait to see them in action. I also wonder what the backs of the scoreboards look like.
Does anyone think the scoreboards will make a difference in the noise level on the field?
I don't have enough points to start a thread, but there are achievements for Tom Brady, Mario Manningham, and (OT) for Lions fans, Javid Best on Madden 12.

My vote would be for something along the lines of this:
As much as I like our helmet, I don't like using football helmets as logos.
it sort of highlights that we only have 1NC in the past 60 years.
Though that will double in the next 5 years.
the "Hail to the Victors" and block M below it looking really cool blown up all by themselves on the boards.
I'd like to see them post the championship years somewhere in the stadium. The press box facade looks pretty empty, if they could put the years up their subtly it'd be a nice touch...
waiting for me.
Until after the game, mind you
so people can tailgate and watch
The transformer or Calvin Johnson?
That would be incredible.
It would be incredible, but it would also greatly increase the number of car accidents by the Main and Stadium intersection.
Here you go, as of 2:25 on Wednesday. Taken with my phone, so not great quality:
it will be a block M in maize with a blue border. I like it, if true.
I believe that is not actually scaffolding, but instead is the inside of the scoreboard.
There is indeed a "back" to the structure. Just now beginning installation. The picture shows pretty well what it looks like. I think it will cover up most of what you otherwise see right now. What might be displayed on the blue background, I do not know.
What is "inside" the structure is both scaffolding (for lack of a better word) and "structure." What I could see with the naked eye, is that while the panel-structures being lifted into place and installed via the crane are big (like, 10' x 15' big) there appear to be smaller panels that are part of those larger assemblies, and I think that technicians can walk around inside the scoreboard towers and replace individual components. They look like walkways; they seem to function like walkways. I don't think they are going to be featured on Stadium tours, however.
It occurred to me while I was looking at them; they could actually become billboards. Not billboards to advertise your metro Detroit Ford Dealers, or 1-800-Call-Sam (that would be way too ironic), but rather the kind of outdoor hanging art you see at the Field Museum, or at golf tournaments. They can digitally imprint anything on thin vinyl now, and so for instance there could be a new "billboard" each month during the football season, and a couple more for other times of the year. So for instance, September 2011 would be a tribute to Desmond Howard. October could be honoring Bump Elliott (if Brandon can get him back). November could be the 60th anniversary of the 1951 Rose Bowl, or the 100th anniversary of "Varsity." Whatever; you get the idea.
And there could still be a Block M painted on the backs of the scoreboard.
Looks Navy to me, darker Blue than the previous scoreboards, will probably match the exterior blue on the Suites
at all...
That's awesome, and very responsive.
I like that shade of blue. Looks like they're going to put speakers on the sides, since they haven't started enclosing them yet. As long as they're only piping band music, which I understand probably won't be the case, I'll be a happy man.
Looks like they have started to close in the sides, but I think you are still right about the speakers going on the sides that's the best place to put them.
Now I have visions of the scoreboard looking like this...
Yeah, that's a quality picture.
I expect this to be a daily post until all work is completed. Is 8am good for you tomorrow?
it looks like they've put up another 2 panels. Can we get another picture? /sarcasm
We need close-ups of the innerds too. Somebody try and get on the scaffolding!
A portrait of Denard's smile on the back of the south scoreboard would be an awesomely cool, if not practical, way of illuminating Stadium Blvd. for people departing the ND game.
Bad Idea - it would cause too many car accidents from drivers being mesmerized by its glory.
Good point.
What I gather from just looking at the stadium cam is that they are putting another small strip of scoreboard on the bottom. Maybe they will run other CFB scores down there?
Yes, the strip at the bottom will be a narrow video screen, separate from the main video screen. That's the place where it said "Go Wolverines" on the original rendering.
For those who can't access the webcam, here's a screenshot:
Hope its just the picture and the lettering in fact matches the field lettering.
Here's another view, from a U-M photo. This may not help as far as the color of the lettering goes, but it provides a better idea of what the scoreboard will look like from the seats.
To be honest, they probably could have gone even bigger.
maybe it only looks small-ish because it's stuck on top of the biggest of houses
i'd be willing to bet they use this more for closed captioning and the like
