B1G West: 7-way tie scenario + NW to B1GCG
This is not terribly realistic, but it's TERRIBLY entertaining! Here is your B1G West chaos rooting guide.
(Please ignore the graphic's poor formatting as Purdue's and Wisconsin's bye weeks aren't represented at all.)

Even tho there is a 1% percent chance this happens the fact that its possible is laughable
October 24th, 2022 at 2:38 PM ^
The funny thing is it looks not that crazy except for Illinois losing to all of Neb, Purdue, and NW. And I guess NW winning 3 more games.
October 24th, 2022 at 4:24 PM ^
NW actually looked ok this week.
October 24th, 2022 at 6:28 PM ^
Yeah but a meteor would have to hit Champaign for Illinois to collapse that badly.
In the interest of chaos, Go Meteor!
October 24th, 2022 at 7:08 PM ^
Illinois is a 1-facet offense, right? When their RB sees our RBs, he'll retire because he will realize that he's been wasting his time. Then, they will be a 0-facet offense, hence the three losses.
October 24th, 2022 at 8:57 PM ^
I can see Ill losing the first two. Neb and Purdue can put up bunches of points, and Illinois hasn't had to keep up with a high powered offense yet. If Ill-NW is for the B1G West crown, we should move The Game to Indy and rename it the B1GCG.
October 24th, 2022 at 2:38 PM ^
imagine if 4-8 NW pulled off the impossible and won the B1G title game
October 24th, 2022 at 2:42 PM ^
What happens in that case? Are there any bowls who are contractually obligated to take the B1G champion, even if they're a 5-8 team? Would they even be allowed to?
October 24th, 2022 at 3:15 PM ^
That would be hilarious and is absolutely my preferred outcome if we don't beat Ohio State.
October 24th, 2022 at 3:40 PM ^
They would be in the Rose Bowl, no?
October 24th, 2022 at 4:27 PM ^
The Rose Bowl has to take the B1G champion. If the B1G champion is in the playoff, then the next highest ranked B1G team gets invited. So yes, they’d have to take Northwestern in this scenario lol
October 24th, 2022 at 11:43 PM ^
Rutgers made it to a bowl last year after a team (Miami?) bowed out due to a large number of positive tests. They only had five wins, if I recall correctly.
October 24th, 2022 at 2:43 PM ^
You shut your filthy mouth drjaws and go comment on the premier league thread this minute!
October 24th, 2022 at 4:11 PM ^
already on it!
btw I have M going 13-0 into the playoffs this year (called back in July-August on this very blog)
October 24th, 2022 at 3:41 PM ^
I would rather not imagine such a thing (unless it's OSU whom they defeat in the B1G Championship Game, in which case OSU would have beaten us in The Game, which I would also rather not imagine).
October 24th, 2022 at 2:40 PM ^
Even year Northwestern!!! It's not dead quite yet!!!
An odd thing about this scenario --- if MSU beats Illinois instead, that means Wisconsin then wins the B1G West. Someone else would win the 6-way tiebreaker: Wisconsin, Iowa, and NW would be 3-2 among the 6-tied teams, those 3 would advance to the next tiebreaker, which Wisconsin would win by being 2-0 among those 3.
So Wisconsin to Indianapolis isn't dead yet either. I'm still not sure they won't get there somehow or either: they are like cockroaches when it comes to the B1G Title game.

Humperdinck, Humperdinck, Humperdinck!
October 24th, 2022 at 2:59 PM ^
If illinois wants to prove themselves as a legit team win the next three games before playing us. Otherwise even losing one of those continues to prove the big ten west is trash. Illinois hasnt beaten anyone with a pulse and they have a horrible loss to IU. I realy hope they come into the big house at 9-1. Would be a great test for us before ohio state
October 24th, 2022 at 3:39 PM ^
Illinois is a classic trap game and is made much worse considering we will be fighting the Nebraska contagion as well.
October 24th, 2022 at 3:57 PM ^
Tot,
The Illinois game will be Senior Day (or Night) at Michigan Stadium.
The team should be "up" for that game...
October 24th, 2022 at 10:47 PM ^
All the more reason to hope they're 9-1 so no one can overlook them!
October 24th, 2022 at 3:50 PM ^
9-1 on an 8 game winning streak and ranked behind 2 loss juggernauts Ole Miss and Wake forest.
October 24th, 2022 at 3:02 PM ^
I like Nebraska being wildly inconsistent in this scenario and finishing under .500 year again.
October 24th, 2022 at 3:05 PM ^
Bring on the chaos!!

God I love sickos CFB.

OMG, they have a DETMER metric -

"It's dizzying, the possibilities".

Luckily the same divisions are staying for next season. Because we wouldnt want ot spend a day from our $100million TV budgets creating a great schedule for just one season.
The board is relieved.
October 24th, 2022 at 3:50 PM ^
Sickos is equally one of the most entertaining and most infuriating twitter accounts.
Their celebration of chaos and mediocrity makes me scream.
October 24th, 2022 at 3:50 PM ^
That's fun but Illinois is not losing to Nebraska and Northwestern.
October 24th, 2022 at 3:51 PM ^
I just tune in for the Iowa offense.... it is a thing of beauty to behold each and every game.
October 24th, 2022 at 4:07 PM ^
The chances of Michigan losing 2 home games to Illinois and Nebraska and of OSU losing at NW are none and slim.
October 24th, 2022 at 4:14 PM ^
None of those things happen in the graphic.
October 24th, 2022 at 4:10 PM ^
I'm always on Team Chaos, when Michigan isn't involved... this isn't going to happen anyway though.
October 24th, 2022 at 4:47 PM ^
Can we trade the B1G West for - USC & UCLA (already in the works) and Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Cal, and Utah.
October 24th, 2022 at 6:48 PM ^
Dang I’m only half done with my Big Ten scenario spreadsheet
October 24th, 2022 at 9:09 PM ^
It's so ugly, that it's actually beautiful. That honestly describes most of the football I've seen the B1G West play this year, so it must be fate that this happens.
October 24th, 2022 at 10:39 PM ^
Doesn’t require any craziness the level of Northwestern beating OSU or anything.
If this did happen and Northwestern somehow won the conference championship game, could they even be invited to the Rose Bowl?
October 24th, 2022 at 11:12 PM ^
The B1G West is mediocre, but the underlying idea that it’s crazily up for grabs doesn’t make much sense. Illinois is alone in first and is playing the best.
October 25th, 2022 at 12:15 AM ^
To make this hypothetical even wilder, say that us, Penn State, and OSU finished tied at 8-1 (with Penn State beating Ohio State, and OSU beating us). In that case, the East division representative would have to be chosen by random draw. All of the remaining stopgap tiebreakers (most of which involve the records of the West division opponents) would fail to determine a winner due to the 7-way tie.
October 25th, 2022 at 8:55 AM ^
I had to double check this -- you are correct! I thought for sure that point-differential was somewhere down the list of tiebreakers, but it is not!

Wally, clearly you have way too much time on your hands. Perhaps you should catch up on your honeydo list, between games. Or maybe consider community service.
