Bye bye! Have fun storming the castle!
December 29th, 2022 at 1:26 PM ^
He was only mostly dead.

The new Big Ten Commissioner
December 29th, 2022 at 1:33 PM ^
Well there goes BIG TEN recruiting for the next cycle. Even if he comes back.
December 29th, 2022 at 1:35 PM ^
think it'll woik?
December 29th, 2022 at 1:38 PM ^
It would take a miracle
December 29th, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
If only we had a wheelbarrow, that would be something!
December 29th, 2022 at 3:23 PM ^
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
December 29th, 2022 at 1:25 PM ^
I think I’ll apply for B1G Commissioner if Warren does leave. My main selling points will be my expansion plan that includes extending invitation to Stanford and Notre Dame, then contact Texas and Oklahoma and ask them what they need to flip from the SEC, then finally let FSU/GT/Miami/BC know of my plans to invite them as soon as they convince the ACC to implode.
After that, we can pick up any remaining pieces of the ACC and PAC that are worth anything.
Finally, my plan will be to withdraw from the NCAA and set up our own rules and regulations and explore creating a collective bargaining agreement with a newly formed B1G Players Association for all Varsity Sports (men’s and women’s) Club sports that are non-paid and/or don’t have any scholarships will not be included.
I will only ask for $500k annual salary, and 1% of any increase in TV revenue during my tenure.
December 29th, 2022 at 1:26 PM ^
I will vote for you, but can I have a position on your staff?
December 29th, 2022 at 2:10 PM ^
I will certainly give added consideration to any good faith MGoBlog users.

(Laughs in Beavis & Butthead)
”Position on his staff”
December 29th, 2022 at 4:36 PM ^
Next Big Ten co-commissioners?
December 29th, 2022 at 1:27 PM ^
No to Texas and Oklahoma. We'll see just how bad the damage they left in their wake in the Big 12 is, but no need to bring their conference killing ways to the B1G.
December 29th, 2022 at 2:08 PM ^
Stealing Texas and Oklahoma is more about screwing the SEC if given the chance. I think they’d add quite a few million to any future TV deals as well.
December 29th, 2022 at 6:22 PM ^
The SEC is already screwed. Texas & Oklahoma didn't join the SEC, the SEC joined Texas & Oklahoma.
"All the bad stuff the remnants of the Big 12 have tried to tell you about Texas is true. The arrogance flows through the veins . . . 'We're Texas. What starts here changes the world.'"
December 29th, 2022 at 1:41 PM ^
Good plan but I'd rather add Oregon and Washington from the Pac-12. Notre Dame is a good get. Annex Texas and Oklahoma like you suggest and also annex Kentucky and Missouri to keep a Central US footprint. Let the SEC pillage the ACC and what's left of the Big-12.
I'll be a consultant for $100K and 1% of the 1% of TV revenue money.
Let's party in St Maarten or Maui, take your pick.
December 29th, 2022 at 1:45 PM ^
"I will only ask for $500k annual salary, and 1% of any increase in TV revenue during my tenure."
Reminds me of Dana Carvey as Ross Perot.
December 29th, 2022 at 4:39 PM ^
Dana Carvey would be a great B1G Commissioner. He could do his Bert impression at press conferences.
December 29th, 2022 at 1:30 PM ^
In the words of the Burgermeister: “Good bye, good riddance and good luck!”
December 29th, 2022 at 1:32 PM ^
Fingers crossed he gets the job and the door doesn't hit him on the way out.
December 29th, 2022 at 2:35 PM ^
All of the Student Ath-uh-letes will not miss him...I know I won't.
December 29th, 2022 at 2:44 PM ^
I don't really care if the door hits him.
December 29th, 2022 at 5:49 PM ^
Yeah, as long as it’s not in the tunnel I guess I don’t care either.
December 29th, 2022 at 1:34 PM ^
Let's get Charles Woodson or Desmond Howard for Big Ten commissioner.
Go Blue.
December 29th, 2022 at 2:03 PM ^
Jim Hackett?
December 29th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
Hackett would be a tremendous choice - but, certain ADs will oppose him because of his relationship with Michigan. And, the “powers that be” might be interested in someone who is a bit younger.
December 29th, 2022 at 4:55 PM ^
I mean, moving on from a commissioner whose son played (I say that facetiously) at Sparty during his tenure.
December 29th, 2022 at 1:35 PM ^
well that's one way to ensure your son gets drafted
December 29th, 2022 at 1:43 PM ^
Does his son enter the transfer portal out of Mich State? (not sure how eligibility he has left)
December 29th, 2022 at 1:44 PM ^
Good luck to him and good bye if he gets the job. This would not hurt Michigan in any way imo.
December 29th, 2022 at 1:54 PM ^
Tunnel strikes again.
December 29th, 2022 at 1:55 PM ^
Dave Brandon, obviously
December 29th, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
You shut your whore mouth! What if God hears you?
December 29th, 2022 at 4:44 PM ^
I think only satan can bring Dave Brandon back into Big Ten football.
December 29th, 2022 at 1:58 PM ^
Per the OP, it was epic disrespekt for Warren at the Big Ten Championship. Every time he was introduced to give out some award, he got the Roger Goodell treatment from the crowd. Hilarious.
December 29th, 2022 at 2:01 PM ^
If there’s truth to this, and Warren becomes President of the Bears, I would guess the Bears will lock down fourth place in the NFC North for the next six years…
December 29th, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
Well that was, umm, unexpected.
Who would we tap to replace him? As we've seen from the Larry Scott disaster in the Pac-12, this is actually a pretty important position.
December 29th, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
A good starting point would be Not Larry Scott.
December 29th, 2022 at 2:07 PM ^
The fact that he was the parent of an MSU player bugged me. It may not have amounted to anything, but it felt like a conflict of interest.
December 29th, 2022 at 2:22 PM ^
Ehh, I mean what is the kid supposed to do, not go to any big ten school? I know we didn’t like it because he was at MSU, but it’s not really fair to say that the kid can’t go to a big ten school.
December 29th, 2022 at 2:33 PM ^
My issue wasn't with his son going to MSU, but that he remained on the job as Big Ten commissioner after it happened. Which may have been an irrational concern, but enough weird garbage has gone against Michigan over the years that I didn't want to chance it.
December 29th, 2022 at 6:37 PM ^
To be fair, I thougt his handling of the tunnel fracas was more-or-less fine.
December 29th, 2022 at 2:37 PM ^
The kid can do what he wants. He doesn't have any potential conflict of interest, ethical obligations, etc. On the other hand, Warren himself could have stepped down.
Not saying he should have, especially in the middle of TV deal negotiations and SoCal shopping.
December 29th, 2022 at 3:51 PM ^
Warren could have just decided to watch his son’s games on tv… but, I’ll always recall Warren being in the stands when seven calls, reviewed by replay, were all determined in favor of the home team. That was the Michigan game in EL in 2021.
December 29th, 2022 at 2:13 PM ^
Seems like a step down. You go from leading an organization composed of 14 of the biggest sports names in the business, a TV contract worth (literally) billions, and a leading voice in the direction of college sports across the entire country, to running one team organization that has no direct TV contract and isn't responsible for anyone else.
Maybe he's just not cut out for leadership on the scale he had?
December 29th, 2022 at 9:55 PM ^
Depends on whether his pay increases or decreases. My guess, if he takes it, his pay will go up.
December 29th, 2022 at 2:16 PM ^
I am going to hold off on any celebratory comments.
First, the tweet does not match the post. The tweet says that he has emerged as a top candidate rather than that he is expected to be named. There could be other top candidates.
Also I am invoking the Monte Clark rule named after the former Lions coach of blessed memory. I always wanted the Lions to replace him because the team was always mediocre. I was excited when they terminated him only to find out a few days later that Daryl Rogers was the replacement. Now I do not celebrate until I know the replacement.
December 29th, 2022 at 2:18 PM ^
Unpopular opinion but I want whoever comes in to replace him to finish making the rest of the PAC- # division of the Big Ten. Bring on Oregon, Washington, and Stanford.
