Awesome Millen Quote

Submitted by a2bluefan on
Ok, we all have our issues with Matt Millen. Hate him if ya want, but this quote cracked my shit up (following Tate The Stud Bolt's stunning TD run): "If you look real close, there's a jockstrap on the field... and it belongs to Darius Fleming." I had to laugh. GO BLUE!!!

I really don't have any ill feelings towards Millen. He tried to do a job that the Lions kept paying him to do. Would you do anything different than he did? I enjoyed him as a commentator and hope we see/hear him again. Funny the lions go like 15-43 (just guessing) with Millen and Michigan is 1-0 thus far.

I loved the one where he said Charlie should have declined the delay of game penalty on the field goal. Then when he missed it he said it was a good thing Charlie accepted it. I think he should learn football before he announces another game.

I thought last week I saw a game where the ref announced the penalty and said something like, "five yards.... Correction penalty is declined." It might have been a false start though. I don't remember. Just that it was a penalty that is pretty much never declined.

There was a play Craig Roh got held on the outside run and the UM coaches were yelling at the refs to make the holding call. They showed the replay and Millen acknowledge that it looked like holding. He then went ton to berate Roh for not making the play and playing like a freshman. How the hell is that Roh's fault??? He did his job and drew blatant holding. It's the ref's fault for not throwing the flag

I think the whole "minor is major" exchange stood out the most to me. In play by play etiquette you're supposed to go with whatever your booth partner is yammering about, but you could tell that one tested some patience.

I loved that he did what a color guy is supposed to do...explain the game. He was talking about different gaps and where plays broke down and what not. I was very happy with what we got out of him. He can add color to any Michigan game as far as I'm concerned.

Listening to Millen "analyze" football is like listening to a child psychologist who has one of their own children who is a drug addict and another child who has flunked out of high school. He has no credibility.

His fawning over Tate was awesome because he plays for us, but I'd have hated it if I were a non-UM fan watching. Having said that, on the whole he did a decent job. It's got to suck working with Sean McDonough and his perpetually deadpan delivery.
