AP Pre-season All America Team; Moody 1st team selection

Submitted by jwk899 on August 22nd, 2022 at 12:15 PM

The AP has released their preseason All American team.  Jake Moody was selected the 1st team Kicker.  He's the only UM player to appear on either the 1st or 2nd team

Other than Moody, what UM player do you think most deserves a spot on this list?  I'll predict that Erick All ends up 2nd team AA at the end of the year.

A finalist for the 2021 Rimington should have serious consideration this year?

Olusegun Oluwatimi, Virginia

Olusegun Oluwatimi started all 12 games for Virginia in 2021 and has started 32-straight dating back to the 2019 season. A Rimington Trophy watch lister for the second season in a row, Oluwatimi was also named a second-team All-ACC selection. According to Pro Football Focus, he is ranked second-highest among all FBS centers with a 90.2 run blocking grade and only allowed three sacks and five QB hits in 2021.

Logic, Reason and Accountability will have no place here!

Dude was a Rimington Award finalist - ie: Top 3 - while playing for UVA.  Friggen VIRGINIA!!!!  If he could do that at UVA, on an OL that included him and a bunch of nobodies like me, for an offense as putrid as UVA runs, in the ACC, then he should do okay at Michigan.

How this guy is being so under-discussed is beyond me...

How Paris Johnson and Dawand jones make all American teams is beyond me. That’s all hype machine BS.  Zinter was better one handed last year and should take a spot from them.  Blake will have a better season than Henderson.

I don't think Corum will have a better year than Henderson. At least not statistically.

Corum is the #1 option for sure in Michigan's backfield, but Donovan Edwards is very likely going to be 1B to Corum's 1A. They're both going to get a lot of carries. Versus TreVeyon Henderson is the guy.

He'll get spelled in certain situations, probably come off the field in certain third down scenarios, but he's not sharing major snaps with anyone. Especially since OSU's third stringer is now out for the year. He'll also be the benefactor of "He's the best because he plays for OSU" bias.

Michigan will probably have a better overall ground game, certainly a deeper one. But Henderson will likely be considered the top back in the conference because he's not sharing time with anyone.

Erick All has the measurables and speed to be one of the best TEs and his frame feels like it translates to the NFL. I don't know enough about all of the TEs out there so tough to say for sure. But barring the dropsies or any injuries (knock on wood), it would be tough to leave him out of the conversation.

Well deserved for Jake Moody.

Won't be surprised if we have a few All-BIG first teamers that could be All Americans next yearif they return.   Still a pretty young team.

Other than the O line, it's possible that even a stellar year won't lead to lots of All America status

Because if it's a stellar year, that likely means the offense has so many weapons that none have gaudy individual numbers.

I know coaches have a minimum effect on kickers/punters but Jays work with special teams has been fantastic. When you add in his work to recruit and build up the buckeye slayer, Haskins, you got to admit he has the midas touch. I think he might make a hell of a head coach someday,

Many of the post-season AA awards will largely be fueled by team success and who isn't injured.  If M beats OSU, there's a much better chance that the outstanding Wolverine in that game will get some consideration, especially if he's had a good season to that point.  If Alabama wins out, many of their players will undoubtedly get the honors that have been bestowed pre-season.  If not, expect awards to non-Tiders.  A good season for Ronnie Bell will really help his chances.  Same for Jake Moody, of course.  But hope there are many more TDs than FGs!!  Go Blue!

Lots of disrespeck here for Michigan. You figure one of our O Lineman should've been selected (some Northwestern guy got picked after all), but I'd rather have the better overall unit than one star, a couple of decent ones, and a pair of scrubby linemen.

Some nice bulletin board material here at least for the coaching staff to use--you guys beat OSU, won the B1G, and the country thinks we're just a kicker and a bunch of schmucks...what are you going to do about that?
