Anyone Making the Trip to Penn St?

Submitted by Mineral King on October 13th, 2019 at 10:43 AM

Who’s going? Any tips? I will be there!! This is my first trip there and I cant wait to see the looks on their faces when we shock them. My prediction is that it’s going to go down something like 05 game in the Big House. I was at that game as a young fan and still one of my favorite memories. Let’s make a new one.... TOUCHDOWN PEOPLES-JONES!!!!

Carr's teams beat the pedophile enabler's teams regularly.  That and they were used to talking shit about Pitt and how weak it is academically there.  Then they found out it's a lot easier to get into penn state than it is to get into Michigan.

On another level.  They pretty much hate everybody.  It's an insular, weird place.

^^This, and everything before it. It's the weirdest place I've ever lived. When Sandusky's gut-churning abuse came to light in '09 (read the indictment if you want to have nightmares for the next year), I thought for sure there would be some kind of reckoning with Paterno's deification. (BTW, it's not even a sliver of an accident that the story was broke by a reporter outside of State College. No way was a Centre Daily Times person gonna research the whispers.) But no. There was honestly more outrage on "JoePa's" behalf than the victims'. As a human being, I'm horrified. As a therapist who works with abuse survivors, I want to retch. They finally removed his statue from in front of the stadium, but they just popped it indoors at the "Penn State Sports Museum" or whatever it's called. "Insular" is a fantastic word for the general whackedness that pervades the charming little streets and rolling farmlands. They've taken the view that "outsiders" came in and passed judgment on them and their team without knowing the full story. Well, yes--people did pass judgment...b/c the man you placed on a pedestal chose to protect his football program over vulnerable children, and no amount of money donated to the library negates that. The Onion captured it best with their story:  https://sports.theonion.com/rest-of-nation-to-penn-state-something-is-very-wrong-1819579277 (Hope this comes through.)

I was excited before the OSU game last year.  I was excited before the Bowl game last year.  I was excited before the season this year.  "Until we get disappointed"!?  What team are you watching!?  Dude...it's been nothing but disappointment.

Harbaugh hasn't made a single quarterback better.  Hasn't developed or recruited a single starting quarterback.  No single quarterback has progressed under Harbaugh.  The team consistently looks ill prepared.  Executes sloppily.  Plays without heart / checks out at times.

Unless you are completely delusional...why would you be excited about this game?  Truly.  I would love to be excited.  I would love to think this season is salvageable.  What in the world do you see (objectively and not wishful / hopeful thinking) that things are going to get better or that this game is going to turn out well?

Jake Rudock definitely improved over the course of 2015.  He was a completely different QB by season's end.

Wilton Speight also got better over 2016, too.  He had a shaky game against Colorado and then was playing at a really high level later on.

The QB issues have really just been in the last couple of years - not even last year so much, just 2017 and 2019.

My thoughts exactly, after osu game I stayed away from michigan football until August. I had moderate expectations this year, had doubts about defense. But now the offense is horrible, the team is unprepared and lacks heart and leadership. Harbaugh doesn’t win big games especially road games. I have no faith they will win, all the same problems this year will show up like Wisconsin game.

Nothing but disappointment? You didn’t enjoy last season? Before the fall of course.

i thoroughly enjoyed beating Wisconsin, penn state, and MSU last year. Yes there was disappointment but there was a lot of joy and excitement along the way.

This is a poker player mentality, only remembering the bad beats and losses.

why would you be excited about this game?

Because it’s Michigan football and I’ve been getting excited about every game since 1976 — it’s in my blood and there is nothing I can do about it, nor would I want to.

If it’s so hard for you to enjoy it, if you cannot accept that seasons and programs ebb and flow, then find something else to occupy your time.  I want to win every game, but I also understand that there are only a couple of programs that live up to the expectations that many in here set.

Before you start with the “Harbaugh’s 5th year” meme, again, programs ebb and flow, and are almost all constantly in flux.

I differentiate two things:

1.  I root for "Michigan" and hope they win every game.  Been a fan all my life.

2.  I don't choose to support a Coach that has shown he is incapable of building a winning team that can challenge for B10 Championships.  That is what Harbaugh was paid to do...any other thought is naive.  He is getting paid top 5 coaching money to be maybe the 3rd-4th best team in the B10 over his tenure.  Not good enough.

Ok so, not good enough.  What now?  What’s Michigan’s next logical step?

Are you willing to accept another deep valley in the program in the hope that the next guy is “The Guy”?  Obviously, he could be.  How long would you support him?  What about the guy after that?  When does it end?  What is the toll on the program vs the possible upside of sticking with Harbaugh.  Lots in here like to prognosticate about what Harbaugh can or can’t do, but then act like asking, “what if ...” about the next guy is an irrational position.

Harbaugh is a good coach.  He’s built the program back up to where it was, and the best it’s been since the early 2000’s.  Yes, he’s not there yet.  But, IMO, the downside risk of starting over FAR outweighs the risk that Harbaugh will never win a Championship.  Again, be very careful what you wish for.  People would do well to look around the nation at all the programs who have exhibited impatience and patience, and look at their relative trajectories.  Of course, there are outliers.  But, IMO, the last thing Michigan can afford in its effort to beat OSU is to start over again.

If you think that not supporting Harbaugh will help, if you think that making the fan base look disgruntled and Harbaugh’s seat hot to potential recruits, then by all means keep complaining and expressing your lack of support.  I think it’s not helping in the least, and is actually hurting, and starting over will set the program back another 5-10 years.  If you’re ok with that, I think you’re being childish and selfish but that’s your right.

Thank you, Sten Carlson.  Couldn't have said it better myself....

I, too, grew up watching the 10 Year War of Bo vs. Woody.  It's in my blood.

I'll never give up on our Wolverines.  Ever.  I just can't, no matter what.

Good, bad or ugly...I was born a Michigan fan, and will die a Michigan fan.

Speaking of obliques: Consider the physiological impact of golf. Very assymetrical impact on the obliques. Repeatedly stretching one side of the body and compressing the other. Recipe for back problems.

Shea wouldn't know this, but he set himself up for injury. If he spent the summer doing comprehensive, appropriate exercise this whole football season would be different.

On top of that, he's playing scared because that's how he's being coached. Ugly situation.

I’ve thought about going, since I have a little time off, but ticket prices seem pretty steep.  Will probably end up drinking and throwing things at the tv at home instead.

I’m going. My first time too.  I need to go PSU, Rutger and Nebraska to complete the bucket list of seeing Michigan on the road everywhere in the B1G.

I've been twice. A Rich Rod night game that we got pummeled and a Harbaugh day game we won with a very animated coach on the sideline. The fans there are really nice and I had great experiences both times. It's a pretty wild environment though. Those white-outs can be deadly. I'm just hoping that "Revenge Tours" don't have consequences...

I went to the white out game in 2015 (Harbaugh's first year). Although the game was at noon and PSU was not very good, the experience was awesome. The atmosphere is amazing and PSU fans are generally welcoming. Except for the guy next to me, he was really irritated by Jake Butt. GO BLUE!
