yeah, I am knocking on wood. We lost power about a month ago from like 11 pm to 5 am due to heat... I am proabally on the Pittsfield substation.
They were new. When you did the first one, I wasn't in the orange, but I am now, and the power went out after early comments.
Not today, but about two weeks ago my apartment lost power in the middle of the night and didn't get it back until some time during the day. That sucked.
It wasn't on Packard, was it? I think that turned out to be something inside the building.....of course, I only get to hear so much. I could be thinking of the wrong place. LOL
Nah, I'm on the northeast side of town. I lived on Packard one year as an undergrad, though.
Those of you covered by the purple triangular areas on the map.....well, the transformer feeding you and your neighbors failed more than likely, or the fuse is open at that location. My best advice is to check the transformer location (the nearest pole with an ugly cylindrical object on it) and see if there is something hanging from the fuse carrier. Those of you with REALLY OLD transformers nearby will need to look for shattered porcelain tips (called "bayonets", for the style of fuse). If you see what looks like an open fuse, call in the address where you are too. We use addresses and pole counts to locate operating equipment such as transformers.
I know Nickel's Arcade had a brief outage, but AFAIK everything on campus has been fine.
Nickels Arcade is in the secondary network bank......let me put it like this, block by block, we're trying to get rid of it in favor of newer distribution.
The University Of Michigan actually, in part, produces its own electricity.....it depends on the building as to whether or not we are responsible for the power to it.
Still no love. Might be time to consider getting a solar cell for the roof. Or one of those house generator things. Eating all this icecream before it melts is tough work.
There's really only one thing to do with all that time in the dark. And I don't mean eating ice cream.
Go out to eat and watch your wife almost knife the waitress who says "You're such a cute Japanese girl"?
I think I saw that movie once....
(Using all my self-control not to put obligatory pic here...)
But really only sounds like an entertaining night if you take the "almost" out of it.
It wasn't bad. Now that she has graduated she wants a baby because "the mixed race ones are really cute". So I'm being careful about some things.
Ann Arbor may have too many AC units going now a days! Too much demand for energy in the late afternoon and evening may cause some rolling brown outs? My only guess!
Had a strorm or something roll through and the block on state from McKinley to Dewey was out for 6 days, of course the 4/5 days before the LSAT.
DTE guy rolls up and says, "yea, that doesn't look good."
Whole foods had to close--Busch's was back on when I stopped by at 8ish but everything in the seafood, deli, and prepared food areas was entirely gone. I assume discarded. Bet some lucky raccoons will feast tonight.

<br>I'm always a little amazed when people don't realize that a blank light at a busy 4+ lane intersection needs to be treated as an all-way stop. Saw some stupid driving before the sign guys arrived.
Or someone bought a large amount of meat at a discount and multiple bags of ice. I learned that trick back in the Blackout of '03 and am now sitting on a lot of steak and salmon.
To keep cool?
Nothing cools you down like some farm raised salmon steaks. Also provides excellent lower lumber support.
At Scio going down Main.

But others are still waiting...
Edit: According to the map...that may have changed...
I live just a few blocks northwest of the Huron-Jackson-Dexter "Y". Had enough juice to run the TV and dim lights, but not enough for AC or fans. It was a fucking warm in the house, so wife & I went up to Quality 16 and watched the new X-Men flick as much for the AC as the entertainment.
Power came back on sometime after 3 or 4am, I think.
We can count on one outage a year, either in the winter or summer.
Alrighty then, I've got you written down as "somewhere near Westwood."
This thread has been a goldmine for potential MGoBlogger stalkers!
Stop by and introduce yourself sometime... I'll have a cold beer ready for you.
You must be on one of our illustrious Hemlock circuits (one of the few substations that has the advantage of being near a liquor store). I know low voltage is an issue on the west side.....give me an approximation of where you are and I might swing by to take a look at our facilities in the next week or so.
