Don't know why, but I see Ravens vs 9ers. Actually, I kind of do know why. Pats don't have a defense and unfortunately our boy Harbaugh has really turned around San Fran. I think the Giants will come out stale after a big takedown last week.

I have it going the other way, I see Pats and Giants. I think the Patriots have enough 'D' to keep Flacco in check while Tom and the Patriots offense will fare well enough against the Ravens 'D' as well as take advantage of Raven miscues on 'O'. Eli really showed me something at Green Bay last week; he out Roger'ed Rogers. He deserves his All Pro status and will show it once again against the 49ers. Smith did some good things against the Saints last week, but the Giants have a better defense than New Orleans; they will keep the 49ers in check for the most part and will give Eli and the offense plenty of opportunities to score.

It seems like Brady is on a mission this year, and the Ravens defense is getting long in the tooth. If the Patriots can slow down Ray Rice, I think New England wins handily.
I like the 49ers defense and Vernon Davis is a monster. Also, it'll be interesting to see if the 49ers can extend the NFC streak to 12- each of the last 11 NFC representatives in the Super Bowl have been different teams.

...I want Brady to get revenge. I'd also love to see Jim Harbaugh get his Niners into the Super Bowl as well.
I'm a New England fan. I'd like to see Brady get one more before it's all said and done. As has already been mentioned, the defense this year has been mediocre at best, so to win this one would be his greatest accomplishment to date. Furthermore, it will solidify his case as the all-time greatest quarterback in the NFL.
I think the Patriots can beat Baltimore because Baltimore's offense is not good and the Patriots defense has been better (not just last week). Furthermore, while Baltimore obviously has a daunting defense, I don't see how they're going to stop New England's tight ends. I think Gronk and Hernandez have big days and New England advances to the Super Bowl.
On the NFC side, I really don't know. I like the Niners and I don't buy the "they gave up x number of points even with the turnovers, they're going to get crushed by the Giants" argument. First off, Drew Brees is a better quarterback and New Orleans's offense is elite. The Giants offense is not. Furthermore, the Niners forced those turnovers with hard hitting and attacking the ball. I do think that this will be a really competitive game.
As I said before, if it's Giants-Patriots, it's about revenge. If it's Patriots-Niners, it's about the return of a great franchise to the biggest stage in the NFL and a possible last hurrah for the other. I wouldn't mind a Patriots-Niners Super Bowl because 1. I liked the Niners growing up (big Steve Young fan) 2. I'd like to see one of the storylines be about Michigan quarterbacks.
It should be a fun (see: stressful) day of football.

If SF wins the super bowl does harbaugh get a raise? It seems like craziness but you can't say he doesn't deserve it.
January 22nd, 2012 at 10:13 AM ^
Brady owes the Ravens payback for the '10 playoffs loss, and the Giants for the '08 Super Bowl. I hope he gives both teams what they have coming. GO BLUE!
January 22nd, 2012 at 10:14 AM ^
No time for analysis for me. I'm rooting with my heart today.Go Giants!!!!
January 22nd, 2012 at 10:17 AM ^
Really want to see Brady get that 4th Super Bowl ring but I just don't see it happening. I think Rice runs all over the Pats today, keeps the Pats O off the field and the Ravens do just enough.
Can't see Alex Smith having another big game.
I see a rematch of Ravens / NYG
January 22nd, 2012 at 10:22 AM ^
Brady! Need him to get another one so I can tell these local Domers that Brady > Montana.
January 22nd, 2012 at 10:30 AM ^
As long as the Giants lose, whether it's now or in the Super Bowl, I just don't want to see everyone talk about how great Eli and how he's an elite QB
January 22nd, 2012 at 10:32 AM ^
It's all about Brady... I know some super douchey 9ers and Giants fans and the Ravens basically launched an insulting campaign against my skins and us DC fans saying come on over to the Baltimore bandwagon...
Yeah... it's all about Brady.

Problem is I am a big Giants fan. Today is also my anniversary, and trying to convince the wife that our anniversary comes once a year and that the Giants only get to the NFC Championship every five years or so is a hard sell. I think it is going to be the G-men vs. the Pats for a rematch.
January 22nd, 2012 at 10:48 AM ^
if the pats win someone from Michigan is guaranteed a ring. brady, Manningham, or harbaugh
January 22nd, 2012 at 12:14 PM ^
Add the two centers (Baas and Goodwin) to the Giants & SF ring-to-alum lottery.
January 22nd, 2012 at 11:16 AM ^
mattison and I are both rooting for the ravens, the rest of the teams don't matter, brady already is a big name, another ring doesn't really help recruiting anymore, plus i'm from baltimore, suggs vs. uggs lets do this.
January 22nd, 2012 at 11:21 AM ^
I have the Pats vs the G-men for a rematch of superbowl XLII. This time Brady will be victorious.
January 22nd, 2012 at 11:45 AM ^
Rooting for Brady & the Pats over the Giants. I hate the Ravens & 49ers.
January 22nd, 2012 at 12:12 PM ^
I'll go....
Niners over Giants, 23-17
Pats over Ravens 28-14
Pats over Niners in the Super Bowl 28-24
I just think Brady is looking to make one final monumental run in the playoffs to cement his legacy, not that he really needs to prove anything else. This might be his last chance to make it to the SB again.
January 22nd, 2012 at 12:21 PM ^
Pats and 9ers are my rooting interest. Pats have more Michigan alums on their roster than Baltimore (zero). Giants have Manningham, Baas, Herrman (coach) and Jerald Ingram (coach)...9ers have Jonathan Goodwin, Harbaugh (bonus points for playing and coaching at Michigan) and Kevin Tolbert (coach) so 9ers get the nod. Plus I don't like Eli.
January 22nd, 2012 at 7:14 PM ^
Never coached at Michigan.

Not that one anyway.
January 23rd, 2012 at 8:39 AM ^
My mistake, I thought for some reason he was an assistant here before San Diego. Maybe he was up for an assistant job at some point. This clearly explains why the 9ers lost, though. More Michigan grads are part of the Giants organization than the 9ers.
January 22nd, 2012 at 12:44 PM ^
9ers and Patriots in the Super Bowl and Brady gets his 4th ring.
January 22nd, 2012 at 1:04 PM ^
I'll be going to the SF-NY game, not really rooting for either team. I am still not fully behind Harbaugh, even though I live here. It's been fun to see a local team make a run, but Harbaugh's trash talking Michigan when he was at Stanford, and his choice to not return to his alma mater tell me that he is no Michigan man.
I predict: Giants by a touchdown, and Patriots by ten.
January 22nd, 2012 at 1:06 PM ^
at this point i'm really pulling for anyone but the giants. for some reason they piss me off. it probably stems from my pure hatred of the yankees.
i don't care who wins the pats ravens game but if i had to pick, i'm rootin for brady.
January 22nd, 2012 at 1:18 PM ^
His playoff losses:
In 2005-06 he lost to Denver. Beat Denver 45-10, throws six TDs.
In 2006-07 he lost to Indy. Peyton Manning sits out entire season, Colts go 2-14 including a loss to New England.
In 2010-11 he lost to the Jets. Beat them twice in the regulars, knocked them out of the playoffs.
So that leaves the losses to the Giants and Ravens....hmmm....
Patriots 28 Ravens 17
49ers 24 Giants 14 (I see SF going nuts on Eli).
January 22nd, 2012 at 7:16 PM ^
But 49ers were Tom's hometown team that didn't draft him.

Oh, and the Super Bowl is in Indy. ;-)
January 22nd, 2012 at 1:33 PM ^
NE is -9 and 49ers are -3
January 22nd, 2012 at 2:51 PM ^
I want NE to win to hurt PSU as much as possible. Also because the Ravens are supposed to be the Browns.
The other matchup is at least interesting. It should be a good day of playoff football.
