Ads on MGoBlog

Submitted by Rich Hokebaugh on May 11th, 2021 at 9:39 PM

Whenever I go to MGoBlog to check out what the faithful are posting I've noticed that I consistently get ads for Russian ladies that want to chat with me as well as images of Paige Spiranac hitting a variety of golf shots.  I'm curious if any of you get the same ads. I appreciate any feedback.

That explains all my ads for tentacle porn and furry conventions.

In all seriousness, we can make jokes but there is definitely something broken in the algorithm here. I have gotten bizarre ads for Russian internet hookers as well as something I am pretty sure was some sort of gay escort service, and I can assure you I've never searched for anything of the sort or even remotely related (and if I had, I would have done so in incognito mode). Others have posted similar concerns.

Feels like this thread happens every month or so and the answer is always "use a different browser if you're going to...visit certain sites".

But on a more serious note I've found that the Android "make an app out of your website" version of the site they released a month-ish ago still has some weird ad injection issue that periodically takes over my screen and is clearly spam.  Just wanted to surface that in case others are still seeing it.

I just want no ads at all since I know how to spend my money.  If only there was a way I could spend money every month paying MGoBlog w/o having to see any stupid ads for things I will never buy.

With the deprecation of 3rd party cookies, starting in Safari and then Firefox, this cross site tracking will stop. MgoBlog is going to lose a fortune but at least your bad behavior won't track you around the web

Third-party cookies are not needed for cross-site tracking.  Cookies just store information on your device, far more proficient and cost-effective.  Programmers can get all of the same data using an image or simple javascript.  Until they start blocking third-party javascript (not going to happen) and third-party images (also not going to happen) blocking third-party cookies is simply a way to get around those annoying ACCEPT buttons.

I know ads are targeted and all that, but the ones on MgoBlog are another breed of this.

I constantly get JTV Jewelry and this post is probably the first time I've typed the word 'jewelry' into my phone ever, let alone online shopped for it.

That’s not an uncommon thing.  If I’ve spent time lurking 11W or RCMB, I tend to get spammed with lots of ads for genital sore treatment and myhotstepsister-dot-com

I believe that the ad content sometimes is drawn from the thread topics, so you're also speaking (typing) it into existence.

Russians russians russians russians russians russians

We're all going to either get sex ads or visits from the FBI now.

"Ha ha, your internet search history pal"

I get those same ads and I'm on a work computer that only ever has real estate stuff up besides MgoBlog. You telling me that real estate = russian mail order brides?
