Wimberly just visited for The Game and Michigan has been trying to flip him from Arkansas for a while

We offered back in June indicating we have had some interest for a while. His offer list is us then air, but likely an uncovered diamond that our coaches can turn into a stud. Hoping he joins!

What?   Only a three star?   The Buckeyes would never even look at him - and, that’s why they are one of the most talent loaded rosters in the country.

Hmmm… was Sainristil a three star prospect?   How did that turn out?

Wishing him well as he reaches a decision.

Hmmm, was Louis Hansen only a 3 star? How did that turn out?
Hmmm, was George Johnson only a 3 star? How did that turn out?
Was Quintel Kent only a 3 star?
Was Gabe Newburg only a 3 star?
How about Joey Velasquez?
Cornell Wheeler?

Look, there are 3*'s that work out great. There are 3*'s that don't. Same for 4 and 5. The truth is, the higher the rating, the more likely players are to be of overall value to the program. That's not just an assertion, a search through mgoblog history will show a couple of fairly in depth evaluations that show this to be true.

Does that mean a program that recruits at 9th-15th will always lose to programs that are at 2-5? Obviously not. It also doesn't mean that recruiting good players (where good is a consensus that a player is likely to succeed) is unimportant.

This is a 100% valid comment.  I think two huge factors are:  (1) Is the 3-star someone we grab at the end of the cycle just to fill open spots or is he someone we have identified and targeted and would take early in the cycle.  I feel a lot better about the latter.  (2)  I am starting to get convinced that NIL going to highly rated players before they have demonstrated their value to their teammates and the coaches is something to avoid due to potential toxicity in the locker room.  If I am right, and if the staff agrees, then we may be out of the picture for more 4 and 5 star recruits than we used to be.  And I am fine with that.  If you tell a kid there is NIL money but only if they come and prove they deserve it, I think you have put in place a system where you will miss out on some top tier guys but you also greatly reduce the risk our getting guys who feel entitled.  The players we want are the highest-ranked, hardest working guys, who are willing to bet on themselves.  And if I had to start compromising on those three traits, I compromise on the ranking.

Kid has a very interesting offer sheet. Michigan, Arkansas, Ark Pine-Bluff, Memphis, and Sam Houston State. Should he commit, seems like another diamond in the rough kind of player.

The random internet site I found is wrong?!

Guy mansplains to a woman that when people are presented with fact they usually change their opinion.  Woman sites two longitudinal studies showing that 95% of people don't change their opinions when presented with new facts.  Guy says, "That's all well and good, but I don't believe it."

Yes, I thought of that.  And then I considered how many Div 1 scholarship athletes would do that.

That is a fascinating question and I absolutely have no clue.  I wouldn't think it would be that many but who knows.  And you're right, what recourse would the school have?

Dante Moore got paid, right?  Matt Rhule says good transfer QB's get $2M.  I wonder if he'll get that much considering all the picks he threw.

Looking at his Hudl film he sure likes contact. Doesn't look like he played great competition judging by some of the highlights. I like that he plays multiple positions. Gotta trust the staff with their track record at this point

Yes, please! I have been on the Wimberly train since Michigan offered. No, he doesn't play great competition, but he's a beast. I was disappointed when he committed to Arkansas.
