2012 Michigan-Alabama Game
Maybe I was not paying attention at the time, or something, but did anything ever come of the Michigan-Alabama 2012 at Cowboy Stadium Rumor Mongering.
It was mentioned that papers were being signed, etc. Were they not signed? Was it scrubbed? Is it still in the works?

Brandon said recently both teams are discussing but no agreement has been reached.

...that Michigan's 2012 conference schedule is out, and it includes a visit to Nebraska, on top of the road games at OSU and Notre Dame that we already knew about.

Who cares? Our team is going to be beastly by 2012.

as part of the deal to play 2011 under the lights if I remember correctly.

“We're definitely playing them this year," Brandon said. "We're definitely playing a night game (at Michigan Stadium) next year. We'll play them in 2012. That's kind of all set. As it relates to the out years, we're going to take a deep breath and see. One of the things we may decide to do is take a hiatus for a couple years and give both teams a chance to play somebody else on a home and home basis."

Arlington would not be an away game atmosphere.

amount of years that would open up a non-confer. game slot for some other games like Alabama.

Michigan is still committed to Notre Dame for several years into the future, including the period when the putative Alabama game would take place.

There is a two year hiatus coming soon.

And I hope it happens. The SEC talks an awful lot of trash, and promptly refuses to play OSU and Michigan.
That said, I would be surprised if they had the stones to come up north and play an away game. The SEC is talented, but when it comes to manning up for non-conference games, they are like one of those little punter dogs whose bark is worse than their bite.

I wouldn't say the SEC is categorically opposed to serious non-conference opponents. Alabama is in the midst of a home-and-home with Penn State, and Tennessee has a forthcoming home-and-home with Ohio State.

Actually, we have historically disliked scheduling SEC teams (Vanderbilt excepted). Bo always thought that conference was full of dirty programs.

Bo Knows.

I am not positive, but I believe that that ND comes off the schedule AFTER 2012. So maybe we should wait another year or so before packing on another good non-conference opponent. That being said I would love to beat the crap out of a SEC school in neutral site.

I don't know about everyone else, but around here we are always disgusted because there aren't more measuring sticks between conferences at the end of the season. Not to mention, there's a good chance that in 2012, Michigan will be THE team to beat for the title game. A win against a major SEC team early in the season will give us alot more clout when we present our argument to the BCS. GO BLUE!!
