2 New Crystal Balls picked by Steve Wiltfong for the good guys

Submitted by Indonacious on

He historically is pretty solid for UM people...

"Added a 247Sports Crystal Ball forecast in favor of Michigan for the nation's No. 9 offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson."

"Added a 247Sports Crystal Ball forecast in favor of Michigan to flip defensive tackle Rutger Reitmaier from Oregon."

Reitmaier was a recent offeree from Nashville who was committed to oregon. Composite 3* (though near 4*) and 4* to 247 (#9 DT overall).

I realize it's not a major game changer of a post, but it's a bye week so figure it was worth a late night post.

I'm bored...so I'll start the list: 1. Damien Harris 2. Mike Weber 3. George Campbell 4. Darrin Kirkland 5. Gareon Conley 6. Shaun Crawford 7. Chris Clark 8...... Add the list of "near takes" and program departures to really make it depressing. The "What Could Have Been Team." Good thing we landed Harbaugh. I sincerely mean that.

The majority of webers recruitment was Hoke. OSU took advantage of the program turmoil and a recent national championship of their own to swoop n and snag him while Harbaugh was here for his first two months.
Then, the rb coach from OSU that promised him stability and mentorship while he was at OSU promptly and conveniently left the team right after signing day. Lol.
Oh well...he's a buck forevuh now...

Mike Weber was 100% going to sign his letter of intent to Michigan until Harbaugh got Karan Higdon to sign first. They still wanted Weber, but they never told him they were going after another running back. Weber was taken aback by the random signing and went with his #2 option instead. That one was actually on Harbaugh. Weber was torn between OSU and Michigan before the Higdon signing, so it's understandable that he went with OSU after the surprise. This all happened on signing day too. That's probably the biggest reason why the Weber family was so pissed about OSU's coach leaving because both of his options sort of pulled one from under him. This is Sam Webb confirmed.

Unless Weber had made a guarantee to Harbaugh that he was signing, I don't blame JH for taking Higdon whatsoever...bird in hand. Furthermore, if a middling 3 star is what pushed Weber away, we'll be just fine without him. I haven't seen him do anything on the field that our current stable can't produce.

This is the best stable I remember ever seeing on any team. Even if we didn't have Jabrill in the fold, there are several games left on the scheule where four different guys could crack the century mark. They're all so different, I'm not sure I could really rank them or how excited I am about their style. Evans, Higdon, Isaac, and Smith all bring really good tools to the table.

I don't care if a  recruit "decommits" from Harbaugh.  If he decommits, there seems to be at least a 50/50 chance it was initiated by Michigan.    Harbaugh is going to get the players he needs to build a juggernaut in Ann Arbor. A few "decommits" aren't going to hurt the program in the long run.

Also, Harbaugh gets his share of players who decommit from other programs.  By NSD, the kids who belong in Ann Arbor will be there.

Not to mention his INABILITY to get the most out of players. Lack of meritocracy. "This is the fifth year seniors team...".
Harbaugh came in and brought out every ounce of competitiveness in every single player and if there was one drop of competitiveness left unused...get the f*ck off his field. Leave. Go sit on the bench. We don't want you here.
Hungry dogs hunt best....and Harbaugh is the master at motivation and getting the most out of his players.

Brady Hoke may be a good fundamentals teacher but he is missing the "it" factor that the GREAT ones have.

The end.

Hoke could have had Burbridge. He didn't accept the commitment because he wasn't sure if Burbridge would qualify. He didn't want to hold a scholarship. That's as bad as Rodriguez not offering Jonathan Hankins because they didn't like his conditioning. He went on to be one of the best DTs in the country. Burbridge was the only reason MSU was functional last year.

I haven't really watched Alabama a ton, so I'd have a hard time arguing that. While Rashan Gary has been as good as could be expected given our d-line depth, he isn't seeing a TON of snaps either. Alabama has had a great d-line with depth for years as well, so my guess is that they're both in a similar position. I would expect, however, that Gary will be the better player with a better NFL career projection. Too hard to seriously call for sure though.

Is there anyone on our starting defense who wasn't a Hoke recruit? It literally could be the best defense in the modern era. Part of that is coaching, sure, but the defensive cupboard was left very, very full. And Hoke got Peppers. Which probably helped get us Gary. He hit some big time homeruns to go with his strikeouts.

100%. Probably would have locked up Da'shawn Hand as well if not for the lack of production on the field. He actually was beginning to recruit at a near Saban level until it was obvious he struggled to win games (and that it wasn't going to change). Seriously elite recruiter. Mattison was a big part of that as well, but that was a great recruiting team.

This is a serious question. Why are the Rivals rankings irrelevant? Weren't they the first to publish recruit ranking lists?
