1996 UCLA Tom Brady's 1st Pass

Submitted by Dr. Sap on

I was at the game and remembered thinking at the time, "Good thing this guy is not the starter!" His first pass may have made him look like a goat, but I'm sure it steeled him into becoming The GOAT! Enjoy and GO BLUE!!      https://www.youtube.com/attribution_link?a=aG4UKdnCUwQ&u=/watch%3Fv%3D7WwHCNMUWjc%26feature%3Dem-

I'm with you there.  I try to avoid being a revisionist and saying that I loved Brady when he was here, because I wasn't his biggest fan.

Nevertheless, gotta love the GOAT.  Just nuts that he's still playing. Hope he's got a few more years in him!

man, TV and broadcast quality has come a long way...

now if they could just get rid of all the #hottake announcers, life would be great.

I guess by extrapolation, Speight will become the GOAT by the time he retires.  His first pass wasn't taken to the house by the defense.

I loves me some analytics!

I forgot about that. I remember he got some PT because UM was up so much but I don't remember the pick six.

Even the most talented players need time to adjust and Brady was no different. I'm so happy he stayed with Michigan.

I remember that one back-up QB, Jason Kapsner, was getting so much hype.  In that he was next in line to be Michigan great.   He was on the sqaud right around Tom Brady (~'96-'99) Back then, I had some decent access to the practices and thought he looked phenominal.

He never started a game, and I don't think got more than a minute or two in his career.

I got my friends to start watching the game again with a 'they say this guy is going to be good. This is our first look at him'.

You can imagine the responses from them.

1996 UCLA was my first game in the Big House as a student. I can't account for why I did not go to the first two games.

I don't miss the marshmellow days. That stuff would be on your shoes for days after the game.

1) I remember watching this game now...Brian Griese on the pooch punt...Keith Jackson was forever trying needling Bob Griese about his son...Bob felt a little freer in taking the bait in '97.

2) As someone who lives in Chicago, I have to say that I live for catching the Wolverines going gangbusters on Cade McClown.

3) Dreisbach was a pretty good QB.

4) I miss playing UCLA...Michigan-UCLA games are almost always fun...or heartbreaking...

EDIT: 5) Has to be one of Sir Charles Woodson's greatest games.

I have referenced this a few times over the years. I remember thinking "so much for the California kid"..No one seemed to remember that his 1st pass was a pick 6
