'17-'18 Depth Chart: Version 8 ("Improvement Week Edition")

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

Notes:

  1. REMEMBER - just because a guy is listed as a redshirt doesn't mean he won't play. Brian wrote something in the spring about "unburned redshirts."
  2. We haven't gotten into the mop-up duty depth as of yet...hopefully we see the backups next Saturday in a blowout over MSU.
  3. This isn't a depth chart for the next game - more as a guess for the entire season.

So Foug is a Rs Soph & has another couple years left to hang 'em high & drop 'em a yard in?  I know there was some question about his eligability...  If we have him for 2 more, that's a good weapon to have (weird to say that about a kickoff specialist.)

But last year was the first year he lettered, and he was listed as a sophomore.  So I'm assuming he's quickly finished his degree requirements and has two more years of football eligibility left.  However, since he'll have his degree and is a non-scholarship player, I guess we'd better hope he pursues a Master's and he gets an academic scholarship.

Samuels, Hawkins, Steuber, and St. Juste have played already. Unless this is assuming who will be relegated to redshirt moving forward? Also is the rule that players can play any 4 games or less and still maintain their redshirt eligibility active this season? or is that a change starting next season?

Didn't we pick up a walk-on fullback that looks really promising?

I wonder what the pecking order is at CB after the top three.  I'm assuming Ambry would be next in, followed by JKP and then Nate Johnson?

is Ruiz?  True freshman lineman targeted for Center, and he is backup Center and Guard, and now an overall extra lineman/tight end on run packages.

Hell, it took Kugler years of practice and development to hit the field, and he was a highly recruited lineman.

Only get these special offensive lineman (Cole, Lewan, etc) who can come and be effective on the field early once every few years.  Terrific recruiting job and great young player!

Great list, a couple of thoughts. 1, Isaac is ahead of Evans, he played less vs Purdure only because he was banged up. 2, Gentry is ahead of Bunting and will likely continue to pull away.

Zach Gentry has to be a candidate. Really impressed with his improved blocking and route running. If he keeps at the strength training, Zach has a very high ceiling and a possible NFL career. Harbaugh can really spot the hidden talents of high school kids.

WAIT WHAT IS THIS SORCERY EVERYONE KNOWS HARBAUGH DOES NOT RELEASE THIS INFORMATION AND IT'S LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET EVEN WITH MAXIMAL EFFORT AND ALSO BY THE WAY IN A TOTALLY RELATED NOTE HIS PLAYERS THEREFORE DESERVE SUBPAR MEDICAL TREATMENT

Yes, he is practicing with the basketball team now. It's interesting to see how scholarships will play out if Harris ends up doing well in basketball and contributing. If we're taking 5 in the '18 class then we would need 2 people to leave early to accomodate everyone and still give Harris a scholarship.

The defensive starters look set for the long term at every position except the interior line. I suppose you could move Aubrey to 3tech. Perhaps that's the plan for next year (can you even imagine if we hadn't succeeded with his recruitment?). But still. Razor thin.

...I did this at the beginning of the year. Haven't looked at it since, but it should shed some light.
