Updated 2012 Recruit Offer List
[Ed-M: Bumped to diary.]
I posted this the other day and it was well received. So, in light of TomVH's news, I thought I'd share the update.
I refined the table a little bit. I removed the column that says Michigan offered since that is evident and I added a column showing Scout's current player rank.

was on TV tonight, how random.
February 20th, 2011 at 10:48 PM ^
That offer distribution seems to be pretty close to a perfect fit for our needs in this class. Maybe a few more offers to both OL and DT, but from what I've read on this site, those are the harder positions to evaluate early so more offers to them will come later.
February 20th, 2011 at 11:22 PM ^
Is it just me or does Terry Richardson have the most impressive offers of a three star prospect ever?
February 20th, 2011 at 11:41 PM ^
He'll probably end up a 4-star, especially if you just look at his offer sheet. His height is probably the biggest reason he is a 3-star at the moment.

Dorial Green is the mythical Tacopants!!!
6'6" WR - every QB's dream
February 20th, 2011 at 11:38 PM ^
I saw that too and laughed. Also Zach Banner is one huge HS junior, 6'9''!
February 20th, 2011 at 11:44 PM ^
... is an OL, which makes sense.
A 6'9" receiver would be impossible to jam.
February 20th, 2011 at 11:49 PM ^
Cool stuff at the two minute mark on Banner and his relationship with his biological father (Lincoln Kennedy, who played in the NFL):

I hear Saban has already asked for medical hardships for his entire second-team of WRs just to make sure he has space.
February 22nd, 2011 at 1:06 PM ^
I looked at a few articles and everything suggests he is wide open at this point.

in danger of oversigning?

on what your definition of "oversigning" is.

in danger of the sky falling on our heads? or of inadvertently eating our own faces?
February 20th, 2011 at 11:44 PM ^
That's my question as well, what if our class fills up and then on NSD some 5* want to come are we going to cut the 3*
February 20th, 2011 at 11:47 PM ^
.... he can come as a preferred walk on.
No funny business in Ann Arbor. We have values.
February 21st, 2011 at 12:13 AM ^
You address the mythical "last minute" 5 Star by not bringing back a fifth year player. That is the real solution. There's no risk of oversigning at Michigan because the cushion is made up by telling a senior he doesn't get a fifth year.
February 21st, 2011 at 12:15 AM ^
Couldn't we have it both ways if we told the 5th year senior he can stay but he won't be on scholarship anymore?
February 21st, 2011 at 10:20 AM ^
We don't have a single 2012 commit. Why are we having this conversation now?
February 20th, 2011 at 11:50 PM ^
need to get a big, fast wide receiver. Beckman,Stanford or Gilmore would be nice. GO BLUE!!!
February 20th, 2011 at 11:58 PM ^
Why don't you just make GO BLUE your signature? You type it after everyone of your posts anyway so it would save you the trouble.
February 21st, 2011 at 12:39 AM ^
there something wrong with saying GO BLUE?
February 21st, 2011 at 12:45 AM ^
If you read my post then you would know I said you should just put it in your signature, Then it will say GO BLUE at the bottom of everyone of your posts. Mine says "Hail To The Victors Valiant, Hail To The Conquering Heroes". Your would say GO BLUE, do you understand what i'm talking about? I don't care what you do, it was just a suggestion.
February 21st, 2011 at 2:14 PM ^
This digression is stupid IMO.
February 21st, 2011 at 12:51 AM ^
I can't say it with you...Go Blue!
February 21st, 2011 at 12:59 AM ^
You forgot two more exclamation points. GO BLUE!!!
Come on, your better than that BlueDragon.
February 21st, 2011 at 1:16 AM ^
And you should have spelled your "you're" in your own post. There, see what I did there?
February 21st, 2011 at 1:25 AM ^
Fair enough, but couldn't it be said either way? Here's a meaningless point for you anyway though.
February 21st, 2011 at 1:25 AM ^
+1 for being classy.
February 21st, 2011 at 1:28 AM ^
+1 for being classy back. Class. Class. Class.

We do have a cushion I guess, I'm just dreaming we bring in Marshall, B-Green, Bush, and that DE from Pennsylvania. Btw does anyone know why we haven't offered him, TomVH said "Michigan will factor into his recruitment" after all and that mattison has a relationship with his coach?
February 21st, 2011 at 2:58 AM ^
Armani Reeves, not only from MA, but - Reeves first cousin is NBA HOF player Charles Barkley and he is originally from Leeds, Alabama.
Want please.
February 21st, 2011 at 3:33 AM ^
Not sure if this deserves another thread but -
Scout is running a story behind the paywall about Terry Richardson looking at MSU and listing them high on his radar.
Is it time to panic?? A Technician going to MSU???
February 22nd, 2011 at 1:11 PM ^
It is February and we are not able to send written offers yet... so yes!
February 21st, 2011 at 8:38 AM ^
The only thing I find a little odd is that UM has offered 12 WR's after turning away a couple of good WR's who wanted to sign with UM in the 2011 class. If the staff really feels that UM is "good to go" at WR, why offer so many in the 2012 class?
February 21st, 2011 at 9:08 AM ^
It relates to recruiting balance. I posted a diary about it the other day.
We will lose four (maybe five if we don't give T. Robinson a fifth year) wide receivers this coming year. We didn't lose any from this year's team. Even if we lose five we will still have 8 on the roster, but Hoke will still want a couple in the pipeline.
I suspect eventually we will get to the point where we will add 1 to 2 per season, and have a roster of 7 or 8 at all times.
February 21st, 2011 at 10:29 AM ^
WA QB Jake Rodrigues
CA DL/OL Arik Armstead
WA OG Joshua Garnett
OH OL Tyler Orlorsky
All verified by either Scout or Rivals.
February 21st, 2011 at 10:44 AM ^
Thanks DG! I'll add them.
The offers are coming fast and furious.
February 21st, 2011 at 11:00 AM ^
I don't have rights to edit it now that it was made a Diary.
I'll add them to my spreadsheet though.

into a wiki link under useful stuff so that we can all go in there and just add offers as they come

February 22nd, 2011 at 11:38 AM ^
Wow, there is a lot of height on that board. The shortest guy offered on the OL is 6'5"!!
February 22nd, 2011 at 1:59 PM ^
good to see this staff offering early and gunning hard after top recruits because UM needs to get back to recieving the nation's top talent

Here's the 71 offers by state with the numbers by position in parens. This includes the 67 names listed in the table plus the four listed by DG Destroys.
Ohio - 16 (QB, RB, WR, TE, 3 OL, 6 DE, DT, LB, S)
Michigan - 9 (WR, 2 TE, DE, 2 DT, 2 LB, CB)
Florida - 8 (QB, RB, 2 WR, TE, 2 OL, S)
California - 7 (3 WR, TE, 2 OL, 1 OL/DL)
Illinois - 4 (2 OL, 2 DT)
N. Carolina - 4 (RB, WR, 2 OL)
New Jersey - 3 (WR, 2 S)
Washington - 3 (QB, 2 OL)
Texas - 2 (2 LB)
Maryland - 2 (2 WR)
Arizona - 2 (QB, OL)
Indiana - 2 (QB, DT)
Massachusetts - 2 (LB, CB)
Kentucky - 1 (QB)
Missouri - 1 (WR)
Pennsylvania - 1 (LB)
Colorado - 1 (OL)
Georgia - 1 (DE)
District of Columbia - 1 (DT)
Wisconsin - 1 (LB)
Using the four additional names, here's the position breakdown for the 71 offers:
- 6 QBs
- 3 RBs
- 12 WRs
- 5 TEs
- 15 OL
- 1 OL/DL
- 8 DEs
- 7 DTs
- 8 LBs
- 2 CBs
- 4 Ss
It's interesting to note that there are no offers to offensive linemen in the state of Michigan, despite it being the state with the second largest number of offers.
It's also intriguing to note that the states number 3 and 4 on the list are Florida and California. The latter makes sense given the ties Hoke and his staff had while they were at San Diego State (the same probably applies to the youngsters from Arizona and Washington state). Florida is filled with so much talent that it makes sense for U-M to make offers down there (although during Rodiguez's era, the newspapers would say he wasn't paying to attention to recruiting the state of Michigan).
Pennsylvania used to provide Michigan with a number of recruits, but there's only one to date on the list. That said, there are offers out to players from a number of states on the Atlantic Coast from Massachusetts to Georgia.
Here's how I see the recruiting numbers by region:
Midwest (Big Ten footprint, including PA): 33 (46.4%)
Southeast (incl Florida): 14 (19.7%)
Northeast/Mid-Atlantic (not including PA): 8 (11.3%)
West Coast (incl CA, AZ, WA): 12 (17.0%)
Plains (incl TX): 4 (5.6%)
Although Coach Hoke has talked about concentrating recruitng in the Midwest, the numbers show he's looking beyond the surrounding Big Ten area to find players--over 53% are from areas outside that area. It'll be interesting to see how those percentages hold up once LOI signing day comes round next year.
