Our week as Buckeye fans

Submitted by Amaizing Blue on

We all have to be 100% committed to Ohio State winning this week.  Most of you know why- We then control our own destiny as far as winning the big ten championship.  There is also a tiny chance we could make the playoff, and it means Sparty loses, which is nice.  In preparation for being a Bucks fan until Saturday, I have taken the following steps.  Please tell me what I've missed.  1.  Cut the sleeves off 9 t-shirts, one for each day of the week.  2.  Stopped showering.  It is too cold to go outside.  3.  Practiced for hours spelling out O-I-H-O.  Thanks guys, GO BUCKS!

If the Buckeyes earn it on the field, that is handling their business.  However, I always want the teams in my home State to beat teams in other States, especially a team that thinks it can look down on my home State.   I do not know if the Buckeyes have ever lost to Michigan teams back-to-back, but it is time for that to happen.

I'm not sure why people have a problem rooting for OSU.  We are Michigan fans and an OSU win is absolutely critical for us to maintain a shot at the Big Ten title game.  Rooting for OSU over MSU is rooting for Michigan.

I know its anathema to some but... I would much rather OSU win another championship than MSU. I perosnally know zero buckeyes and but tons of spartans. I can live with the buckeyes winning again, they already did last year so another cant be too bad. I might have to move out of Michigan if STAEE pulls this out.

A world where MSU is perenially at the level of MSU circa 2000 is a world where the stars have aligned well and the spheres of the heavens still orbit in orderly fashion.

A world where OSU is perenially at the level of OSU circa 2011 is a world where the lighter elements have become heavy and the heavier lighter.

Or, abandoning the cosmological comparisons: everything's just as it should be if MSU is perpetually mediocre, but something's wrong if OSU is.

It's not nearly as much fun to hate Ohio State if Ohio State becomes Minnesota.

I hate their guts.  Their uniforms. Their stinking tin-horn band.  Stupid Script Ohio that our band taught them.  Those old fat guys that wear face paint and buckeye necklaces.  Idiot fans. Loudmouth players. Egotistical, cheating players and program.

But in this case, though I won't root for OSU to win, I will root like hell for MSU to LOSE.  There's a subtle difference but it keeps me from meltdown.

I think a better scenario, which nobody is talking about, would be for Sparty to beat OSU, then lose to Penn State. It could happen.
At the same time, we beat Penn State and OSU. We go to the B1G Championship with the added pleasure of OSU losing two straight to end the regular season, no playoff, and a fanbase meltdown.

Maybe because I haven't lived in Michigan for a long time- but I don't bear the animosity toward MSU that many seem to here. Have met only a few Sparties aborad, and they were actually sane and reasonably intelligent beings. None were obnoxious, even in their fandom.

Once Harbaugh has righted the ship, and/or Dantonio is gone, more than likely MSU will return to being only an occaisional pest. OSU, OTTOH, is the greater [athletic]* rival- on the field, and especially in recruiting- over a much larger area and period of time.

*while both might consider Michigan their athletic AND their institutional rival (and maybe we should throw Illinois in there too!), Michigan clearly considers Ohio State and MSU as their athletic rivals; while Northwestern as the closest thing to an institutional (or more accurately, their academic rival.

[Now if we were in the Pac12, then Cal and UCLA, maybe Stanford would certainly be our rivals. But then if worms had machine guns...]

Sparty fans, because Dantonio once said it, will not hope for a Michigan win even if it benefits them. Michigan fans are not so ridiculously stupid in their hatred of anyone to believe this way about a rival. Yes, we can pull for Ohio State to get a win. But only if it is directly beneficial to Michigan for that to be the outcome. Anyone that has a problem with Michigan fans rooting for OSU to get the win this week, even other Michigan fans, does not understand football well enough to have an opinion worth listening to.

You missed out on the cooler.

The way JT played on Saturday, I am not sure if we should be confident or not. MSU on the other hand is thinking that their defense is rounding up because of the way they played against Maryland. Cook thinks he is good to go, but I am not sure if that wincing on the sideline will go away in a week and when he sees some pressure from OSU.

So, I am expecting a crappy game where the chips fall where it is beneficial to us.

Given we would have played before that game, I really hope we win against PSU so I can watch both teams crap their pants. Go Blue! And Go Buckeyes???

I have no problem with rooting for Ohio State. I normally do not root for or against the Buckeyes, although I would prefer to see them win every game leading up to the Michigan game. I know that view differs from most. As for Michigan State, I normally don’t care if it wins or loses. I root for whatever helps the Wolverines’ championship hopes.

I don't want to see osu win the title again, and I don't see us beating them without Glasgow & Thomas. I know MSU can't win the natty so I'm actually going to pull for MSU bc I'm sick of Ohio winning every fucking week for what seems like forever.

If you have any toddlers in the house, be sure to teach them what the middle finger is used for and have them flip off anyone wearing Michigan clothes.

I will not actively root either way. I want to see an intense game where MSUs front 7 punish the OSU offense into a bruised pulp that we can take advantage of next week. If MSU happens to lose on the last play in crazy fashion...that would be nice.

We don't have to root for OSU.  No one is talking about the following scenario, which I don't believe is total impossible.

MSU over OSU

UM over PSU

UM over OSU

PSU over MSU

If I am not mistaken, that still gives us the title right?  Stranger things have happened.

There is a long and very complex formula I came up with to figure out if it was ok to cheer for ohio state in these situations. Unfortunately, I don't have that formula in front of me.

Butt the end result was its ok.

Either way, we've exceeded our own expectations for the year.

I'm ok with rooting for OSU winning because it directly, immediately benefits us. If it were the other way around, I could root for MSU to win if it directly benefited the Wolverines.

All else being equal, screw MSU. Their level of inferiority-complex-smugness (all head coach driven) is awful. And screw OSU. Mostly because of their fans.
