Unverified Voracity Kisses The Bicep
Macho man. Invaluable video guy Boyz in the Pahokee noticed something that's gone unremarked upon for five years. Note the score, time, and bicep kiss:
WHERE'S YOUR BICEP NOW? And how did the director of the game not cut back to Bicep Guy after Manningham went New Math on people?
Maize 'n' Brew just named the 2005 game Michigan's second-best win over Penn State in the series's short history. No dollars if you can guess the winner.

Not sure if serious. So the news that a loose cannon walk-on is going to start tomorrow should be fairly crushing news to Penn State fans, but if I could be excited about Michigan's 2007 recruiting class they can be excited about Matt McGloin:
Mcgloin
This might just be the kick in the pants to spark this offense. We will see. Good luck to the young man.
I'm so hyped up about this
This kid has gigantic balls!
I’m so glad we have a pure passer starting in this game, I think it gives us the best chance to win. Knewsome can’t pass and Bolden would never WIN us this game. Now, granted McFarve might lose the game, but there is a chance he could WIN us the game.
I already used the image macro once today so I'll forgo it, but… seriously?
A later BSD posts breaks down his performance and even includes video. It could be chopped better—I'm spoiled by BitP's Every Snap videos—but the overall effect is to turn not sure if serious into definitely not serious in the comments, and should be reassuring to anyone fretting. Here's a UFR chart for McGloin:
MATT MCGLOIN
Opponent | DO | CA | MA | IN | BR | TA | BA | PR | SCR | ZR | DSR |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Iowa | 2 | 3(3) | 1 | 4 | 2 | - | - | - | - | N/A | 25% |
I seem to be missing one of his throws but that won't change the overall picture much. The BSD predictionfest goes 4-2 to Michigan, FWIW.
If you change your colors to orange you can get them on the field faster. I suppose I have to say something about Chris L. Rucker's reinstatement. Anyone who didn't see this coming a mile away hasn't been paying attention. People haven't, though, because Dantonio says things like "I don't believe in superstition, I believe in God" and has a square jaw. But all it took was…
- Dantonio baldly lying about Roderick Jenrette's "family issues" that were in fact robberies,
- 20% of the team descending on a party to ignite a melee,
- Glenn Winston injuring a hockey player in that melee so badly he missed an entire season,
- Winston going to jail for five months,
- Dantonio reinstating him literally as soon as he got out of prison,
- 20% of the team, most prominently Jenrette and Winston, descending on a dorm room to ignite a melee,
- Dantonio reinstating most of the players who attended and promising zero tolerance, and
- Rucker being reinstated two seconds after he got out of jail…
…for the media to notice. But notice they have, with Rittenberg, Wojo, and even Mitch Albom(!) saying "hey, wait a minute." So, fine. As long as the correct win-at-all costs guy is being identified, fine. My whole thing here has not necessarily been to hammer Michigan State but to point out how little sense the media storyline about Rodriguez being some sort of renegade has made given the epic crime spree MSU has been on.
So now we know: Dantonio is just another boys-will-be-boys football coach, albeit one who wears his faith as a shield in a crassly cynical way. We can stop vilifying Rich Rodriguez for taking another job now, right?
Hockey weekend. The athletic department managed to schedule the home half of the Ferris State home and home at the exact same time Michigan plays Penn State, and then didn't move the game to Sunday, so 14 people will enjoy a matchup against the Bulldogs tomorrow. The away half is tonight; Yost Built has ten things about Ferris for you. The Bulldogs are 4-2 so far with a sweep of St. Lawrence, a split against Ohio State, and a split against Alabama-Huntsville. It doesn't seem like this is one of the occasional FSU teams that's a contender for a tourney bid.
More Ufer. Nice hair, everyone!
Also Frank Beckmann fluff.
Etc.: I can see why PSU folk think David Jones is their Drew Sharp. Soony Saad scores from distance… like own-half distance. Kenpom says he has "a special place in [his] heart" for MGoBlog because of its David Berri screed. Swoon! Michigan's apple tradition. A look at the future (and distant future) of the weakside linebacker position.

The dood kissing his bicep = tool. Too bad the cameraman didn't go back to him after that play, that would have been hilarious.

I see a lot of PSU fans in out here in Philly, and the Brah factor is very, very high. Still not as bad as MSU or PSU, but not good.

Is that Dave Brandon giving Lloyd Carr a hug at the 10:44 mark in the New Math video?

Definitely Dave Brandon. Nice catch.

Is that bicep kisser Jay Paterno or just another ginger PSU fan?
October 29th, 2010 at 7:57 PM ^
that this is clearly not the first intimate moment this gentleman shared with his bicep. The foreplay is an intricate routine, with a shoulder shimmy leading to a teasing flex, followed by a full-on flex, at which point the inevitability of a man making out with his own appendage irrefutable. This mating routine has been covered extensively on Nat Geo.

I thought it was just another Jersey douche.

Judging by the look on Lloyd Brady's face, he knew very well what was about to transpire:

Yes, exactly, thank you.

Dantonio is not the first nor will he be the last person whose reality doesnt exactly "fit" his media persona. It has been said that humans, when presented with facts that directly contradict an existing opinion, will simply disregard the facts for quite a long period of time before they finally give in and change their opinion. We see this all the time in politics.
The media in the Detroit area "decided" a couple of years ago that RichRod was bad and Dantonio was good. All facts to the contrary be damned. The good news is that while Rich has not yet been given his due for all the good things he has done (Brock is just one example) Dantonio is finally being seen (at least by some) for the person he really is. And generally speaking when the media feels tricked or duped they come down double hard on the person they feel misled by hardest of all.

The hockey scheduling makes me mad... I have two tickets to the game if anyone's interested.
October 29th, 2010 at 5:25 PM ^
This also bothers me because it's the Yost-Halloween game, and the Hockey Horror Picture Show has given birth to so many wonderful new Yost traditions, like Frankenberry, or the Legends of the Hidden Temple Guy, or the guy who dressed as Jim Tressel and stood implacably along the glass for the entire game with his arms crossed. So, if you do go, please report to us, photos where possible.

It only reinforces the fact that when I look at Dantonio I see Senator/Chancellor/Emperor Palpatine (pre Mace Windu scarring of-course). Now on to Penn State and Bowl eligibility.
October 29th, 2010 at 5:40 PM ^
You are exactly right on your take with Dantonio. It's not about throwing stones about the behavior of the players. Kids make mistakes. It's not really about Rucker getting reinstated or the Winston thing.
Although it is legitimate to take exception to those decisions, the far bigger issue is the hypocrisy which abounds from Dantonio as well as the unfair narrative regarding Dantonio as the 'decent' or 'classy' or 'righteous' coach juxtaposed with the exact opposite declared about Rodriguez. It's been rehashed in the media, on the barstool, and on the sports talk shows and it needs to stop.
Granted, an editorial piece on this issue would probably resemble something of sour grapes coming from the creator of mgoblog to most, but, that would be a misrepresentation for sure. I for one would welcome reading such a piece. Rodriguez should be and is open to his share of criticism, but, not on this issue. This chapter is closed.
Brian Cook FTW.

By how much PSU posting board fans know about their QB's balls?
October 29th, 2010 at 7:51 PM ^
if they're as huge as the dude says, why wouldn't the PSU board know all about it? Some of them probably get "cool story bro" treatment for sharing stories about having a class with his balls, or seeing them walking across a particular part of campus. We all know about the mass quantities of dilithium and moxie our QBs have. It only make sense that their board would be replete with knowledge about their quarterbacks' defining characteristics.

October 29th, 2010 at 6:32 PM ^
Well put on the Dantonio issue. Wojo raises a good point about the 'growing arrogance' he seems to be portraying.
In many ways I could care less if Rucker ever plays for them again, I'm just so damn sick of hearing how honorable and full of discpline he is. It's amazing all the leeway he has gotten on this considering he's basically been a 0.500 coach before this season. Hopefully the fawning will be somewhat muted going forward.

“At both Cincinnati and Michigan State, the Winners Manual has allowed our teams to focus successfully on
the intangible fundamentals that are so critical to a young man’s life on and off the field. In essence, it has
given us the ability to harness the human spirit!”
— Mark Dantonio, head football coach, Michigan State University
Yep, Dantonio is all about teaching the kids life lessons and helping them grow up to be fine young men. He's like Billy Graham, the Pope, Mr Rogers and the Easter Bunny all rolled into one.

Well said about Dantonio Brian, and I think it is now time to move on and focus on the rest of the season. Dantonio has been rightly vilified for this decision, and don't be surprised to see more grief if they lose and/or Rucker plays. In Dantonio's own words, "pride before the fall" may be happening in EL right now, but I care more about this team becoming bowl eligible than what happens in Sparty country.
And remember:
October 31st, 2010 at 6:03 PM ^
Dantonio has been rightly vilified for this decision
THIS decision?
Well, I'm glad that Dantonio is being held accountable this time.
Sarcasm aside though, there's a track record of such behavior in EL – have the revisionists and sock puppets already forgot about Glen Winston’s time at the grey bar hotel and near immediate reinstatement to the team? Rucker is hardly the first. Dantonio is the head punk on a team full of them… or athletic department for that matter (Conboy & Troop).
Personally, I don't mind the shots at Moo U. At least Michigan nation knows we suck right now. Sparty fans have been acting though like they've been coming off 40 winning seasons and 33 straight bowls. While I prefer to root for Michigan rather than putting the other side down, it don't mind seeing Sparty get their comeuppance and hope the streak of bad press for them doesn't end.

October 29th, 2010 at 10:19 PM ^
I love how some of the guys are looking at Brian's comments as a closure to the Dantonio analysis and discussion. That is awesome.
Bottom line: Any man is his actions, not his flowery platitudes or dorky skowls. The guy might seriously have sociopathic tendencies to contradict himself like he does while those around him barely say boo. In which case we should feel bad for him.
We are about Michigan football.
To further get in the mood for tomorrow, go to 4:30 on the Frank Beckmann video link and listen to his calls from the 97 Ohio State game on Woodson's int and punt return.
If that doesn't give you chills, you are hereby condemned to having to watch Michigan State play football for the next decade. Every minute of every game.

Good lord, you're a hypocrite. Honestly, how do you write what you do with a straight face? With Stonum and Grady starting on this Michigan team, and now the issue with Fitz Toussaint that's been suffocated by the media, how do you condemn Dantonio?
Your hypocrisy makes me sick.
October 30th, 2010 at 7:47 AM ^
Get your facts straight. Fitz was ticketed for a misdemeanor driving with a suspended license. Not punching random people in the dorms in the face and then drunk driving while on probation. He was also not jailed and missing 8 days of what is that called, oh yeah, class before returning for the biggest game in MSU's pathetic history.

You are thinking of Kevin Grady not Kelvin. Stonum had a DUI two years ago and has also not punched random people in the lobby of a dorm in the face and been jailed mid-season and still played.

Go read your State blogs, the ones written in crayon.
October 30th, 2010 at 12:09 PM ^
Spartan fan here. Hated Dantonio's decision. I advocated that CLR be able to practice with the team and finish school, but shouldn't see the field on gameday for the rest of the season. I must point out though that he did not in fact "punch random people in the lobby of a dorm in the face". He got convicted of assault for simply being there, but it has been thoroughly stated that he didn't actually touch anyone aside from shoving. Not saying it makes things much better, but it also doesn't need to be made worse.

1) He's beaten Michigan
