Turley: Nevermind Comment Count

here's a picture of this dude in a dumb hat to make you feel better

Well, this is annoying: Shannon Turley apparently isn't coming after several outlets and Cardinal players said he was. Neither is Stanford DC Lance Anderson, but that was always a longshot what with Mattison and Durkin set to split coordinator responsibilities. Turley's apparent about-face is a bigger deal, since he's a great candidate at an important spot.

Hopefully we'll get some confirmations on Drevno/Durkin/Mattison today.

NO. No.

No Barwis. Barwis bad. Barwis incoherent. Barwis scream and yell for no reason, with no direction. Barwis jumble words together and talk very fast to sound smart. But not actually smart at training kids. Smart at self-promotion. Players love Barwis because he make them feel like warriors. Also because he replaced hidebound, outdated training philosophy of Gittleson, who was legend but ancient. That not good enough reason to love him. Turley good, we sad that he is not coming. That no reason to go back to Mike @)*#ing Barwis.

In seriousness, go watch this video and tell me that this is a guy who has any idea what he's talking about, who understands how to make kids fitter and better and healthier players. As opposed to, you know, just making them do "olympic lifting progressions," whatever the hell that means. Ugh.

It's not like the dude's methods can't be adapted if that's what JH has in mind for S and C.  The bigger loss may be Turley's apparent charisma in getting the kids to do the work.  We'll survive.

Props to Shaw for keeping his staff together.

Bummer about the wasted "Hello Post" work.  I'd imaging there is a Stanford blog that will make solid (humorous) use of it.

Of course all of these S&C people seem to have a revolutionary idea that is way better than everybody else's idea and everybody else is living in the past.

From looking at the Stanford site, Turley has a handful of new assistants...mostly people who have been there 1-3 years.  Find one of his past disciples who believes in the same approach.

I noticed that hat in the video, eesh.  I liked (what I understood of) his methods enough to get over it... but now that he is gone, screw him and his weird hat.  I know some pretty dorky old people that wouldn't wear that crap camping.

Seems like he would've been great for the team, but the amount of cry babies whining and wailing about not getting this guy is truly pitiful.

The Drew Sharp column on this almost writes itself.

Agree it's important to get ahead of the news cycle on this with more news on the coaching staff, but JH can make it work with puppets and washed up 70s actors.

erik estrada for S&C!

I was just in the Bay area and the worst it got was around 50 with some heady winds. It's -2 in Chicago today so I'm assuming similar in Ann Arbor. It's a tough sell in January.

We could have used Marrow's recruiting prowess, but to be honest, if I was a recruit, I don't think I could get over the fact that Marrow looks a lot like Krang (the brain from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).

We were recruiting like gangbusters with Hoke who had basically done nothing here. This is still Michigan, but now with one of the top 5-10 coaches in the game right now. If all Marrow was going to bring was recruiting, then I'm really not upset past "How can you say no to Harbaugh and Michigan to stay at Kentucky?!"
