Those moving pictures are the thousands of words you very much don't want to read about Michigan giving up a 21-2 run to close out yet another overtime loss. Worst of all, perhaps, is I couldn't lead off this post with Aubrey Dawkins taking Nnanna Ewgu for a ride on the BOFA Express.

This is apparently what happens when your only trusted inbounder is 5'10". I don't much like it.

FWIW that sounds a lot like timmy's trajectory.  The truth is that this team is missing its 2 best players, and is without any semblance of senior leadership.  I feel like most successful CBB teams have at least one of these two characteristics.  I agree this year has been a disappointment but the fact of the matter is that you have a situation where a bunch of players who, due to atrition, simply aren't as good as their competition, and they are playing their butts off and losing in close games.  I have no worries, but would still like to see a big time recruit from at least one of these two next cycles.  Hail Reverend Beilein!

It wasn't awful, but we missed on the big names... I mean, damn if we had Devin Booker....

Anyway, I think Dawkins and MAAR will be great for us sooner rather than later.  Doyle will be our Morgan in a few years.  Chatman is a total unknown.  I think it's a psychological thing.  He needs to slow the game down and just learn to step up.  It's going to take time.

Booker, Blackmon, Vince Edwards.  Those are 3 off the top of my head that we completely whiffed on.  Dawkins could be great because of his shooting and athleticism.  MAAR could be a decent scorer but his shot is very inconsistent and I don't see much else of his game that would make him an impact player.  Chatman I have no idea, the guy looks like he needs to go back to high school for 4 more years.  Wilson is a big project that's behind on his development due to the injury.  I'm honestly not too optimistic about our future.  Thank god for Harbaugh.

It's just confusing to me. He already had a grasp of all the little details here. He would have easily sucked up 25-30 solid minutes (maybe more), and could have been the eldest voice of reason to inspire confidence in a young team. But he is a calm guy and may have not wanted to step into a leadership role.

His decision to transfer was confusing to everyone, except him and family.  He had all the playing time he earned here this year.  IMO, he was lured by the thought that he was a legitimate NBA talent that was held back by Beilein's style.  His apparent clam demenor seemed to be just his distaste for lack of playing time when it all came to an end.  I don't know him and maybe I'm wrong, but he's not a guy I would vote captain.

You're nuts.  Beilein took a team of exclusively unheralded recruits (save GRIII) inches from the final four last year (for the second year in a row, by the way).  I think we're going to be okay with this group of unheralded recruits when we're not struck by outrageous injuries and all of our players being so good that they leave early.

Agreed. As a true freshman who has been injured all year, Wilson is a lost cause. Too big of a project. Can't believe beilein can't recruit freshmen who don't get injured, minus all the starters. I wish we could get one or two freshmen starters who could get us to compete in the B10. Can't believe beilein has so many upperclassmen on the team and can't win

So Stringer, do you believe Harbaugh whiffed on Clark, Jefferson, Marshall, and Weber too?  The only way I will blame a coach for not landing a recruit is if this kid has a blantant connection to Michigan, i.e legacy family, local kid, pictures in Michigan gear as child.  Let's not forget Blackmon is from Indiana and his father went to UK.  Booker was born in GR but went to High School in Mississippi and his dad played at Missouri.

Walton comes back from injury full strength and Duncan Robingson joins the team, who already has a year of experience with the team and system, and is more of a known quantity than an incoming freshman would be.

And players, you know, get better....We have 3 promising freshman playing a ton of minutes this year who are only going to get better.  You saw what happened to Morris, Burke, Stauskus, etc after their freshman year.

Next year will be far and away better than this year.  Most teams (if you're not Kentucky or Duke) have rebuilding years when their roster is pillaged by the NBA.

i also feel bad for the team but beilein needs to figure this out for next year.  we either need caris to come back or we need to find an alpha stud somewhere.

we have 13 scholarship players.  1 is austin hatch.  2 are currently injured.  1 is chatman and he's just not doing it this year.  that leaves us with 9 guys and honestly, i can see why they are frigging winded at the end of the game.  but this sux, beilein needs to figure out something.

Michigan has been terrible at inbounding the whole time Beilein has been here, one of his few flaws as a coach.  Lost 2 possesions in the final 2 minutes because of it today.

I don't think you can afford to be so rigid. As Brian always says, all of these guys average well under 5 fouls per 40 minutes. It's one thing when you are brining in someone who is a roughly equal replacement. When you are at a point where you only have 4 legitimate options for 4 non-big spots, you probably need to roll the dice.

I don't think the fouls per minute stat has anything to do with how JB plays them.  It is just fouls played divided by minutes played.  So sitting on the bench doesn't lower your fouls/40 min metric at all.

I think height does matter. I have seen Spike and Trey struggle to inbound enough from under the basket to think it does matter. Beyond height, the downside of having your PG inbound is that you are putting your quickest player who is most likely to shake free and get open out of bounds with the ball.

The problem isn't the coaches it's the injuries, that's why our team is exhausted at the end of the 2nd. When a shooter loses his legs he's worthless. We need Walton back asap

The math sucks for us.

Out of our 13 SCHOLARSHIPS, we have:

3 INJURED

1 CHATMAN (I think he has potential but he is just not doing it for us this year.)

1 HATCH (He's a feel good story, but let's be honest, he does take up a scholarship spot)

That leaves us with 8 PLAYERS.  We are playing with WALK-ON'S every game now.

This math DOES NOT EQUAL SUCCESS

This team should be better next year, but I think it's also reasonable for fans to feel a little frustrated.  Even with Levert and Walton we weren't playing very well, and looking at next year, we're losing our best player and replacing him with a D3 transfer. It seems like it may be a couple years before the ship gets righted again, which is tough to swallow given the recent success.  Worst of all, our most highly touted players are the ones who look the most lost.  Donnal, Chatman, and Irvin are just bad right now.

Levert this year. He is not playing now, so the addition of the D3 kid is a net positive for next year. Plus they will have Wilson and hopefully a healthy Walton. If we get improvement from the freshmen it might be better than expected.
