Hunter Dickinson: Back Comment Count

Brian April 24th, 2022 at 6:39 PM

I theorized that NIL plus the prospect of making "too short gestures" at Tom Izzo while Julius Marble Joey Hauser tried to check him might tempt Hunter Dickinson away from his original plan of being a two-and-out player, and well looky here:

Dickinson's return is obviously massive for the team's prospects next year. Whatever his faults are on an NBA level, in college he's a dominant offensive force shooting 61% from the floor for his career.

Michigan is still waiting on draft declarations from Moussa Diabate and Caleb Houston, plus scattered rumors that someone else might hit the portal. Michigan is currently in heavy pursuit of Texas Tech transfer Terrance Shannon Jr., a Charles-Matthews-esque SG/wing with better shooting.

There is no content after the jump.

Great news from HD. Develop a solid backup so he doesn't have to play so many minutes and his efficiency will get even better. Let's see who else comes back.

There are complications with both of them being foreign and earning NIL money. So they’re more likely to go than Hunter even if it means spending time in the G-League. Whereas Hunter is probably in line to make as much, or more, from NIL as he would as a fringe NBA/G-League player.

The NBA also values young players with athletic upside (Diabate), shooting ability (Houstan in theory) and potential. “NBA Ready” isn’t necessarily a deciding factor for teams when drafting, especially outside of the first few picks.

Id say they’re both realistic risks to make the jump, but far from certainty to jump as well. Likely going to come down to what they value personally. If it were me, I’d declare for the draft with the intention of returning. Getting the feedback from the NBA would be pretty valuable for those two and there are obviously things to work on.

He'll be the most hated man in the Big Ten next season, and he won't even have to punch anybody in the nuts to earn that status.

The salt from MSU fans about this is hilarious. They're making fun of him for coming back for his 3rd year and making 7 figures in NIL as if Izzo doesn't convince his players to do the same and that their lord and savior Cassius Winston didn't do the same

Good news. We still need a mobile wing who can get his own shots. And a shooting guard will who can also hit 3s with consistency. We need to make space for HD & bigs to work in the lane. If MD comes back would love to see him develop a solid 10-12’ shot capability to open up the hi-lo game for him & HD.

Wait, is talk really that Houstan is gonna declare? Regardless this is massive. I had heard rumors but didn't believe it because he seemed to barely come back last year. Let's go.
