Not to mention stylistically…

Not to mention stylistically atrocious. Clearly someone at some point told him that one-sentence paragraphs were a hallmark of bad writing, but he still wrote a 43-paragraph blog with only 16 of those paragraphs longer than two sentences (and that's with generously counting the numerous fragments as actual subject-predicate complete sentences). And many of the "longer" paragraphs look like this one:

That's how it's done. This is the Ohio State football standard. It's a business, not a family.

Writing like that really makes me appreciate Brian, Seth and Alex even more.

IIRC, it's a fake rap battle where the guy in glasses says totally banal stuff and everyone acts like he dropped the sickest verse ever.

It's especially good on the CJ td's because by the time Gus says "sprinting" CJ is just coasting the last ten yards into the end zone.

Correct, and furthermore,…

Correct, and furthermore, refs are generally reluctant to declare a pass uncatchable once the flag comes out. Unless it's like "Megatron on a pogo stick couldn't have caught that," they stick with the PI call.

Hell yeah! My Big Dickinson…

Hell yeah! My Big Dickinson Energy t-shirt gets a temporary reprieve before turning into a weird relic! Good for the basketball team, too.

He's not forced to do anything. He's made made more than enough money to retire comfortably any time he wants.

I usually start with TREAD because I irrationally believe they try to avoid words with S.

I've been lurking round these parts for awhile now, long enough to have opinions about most of the prominent posters. Salvatore sometimes makes good points, frequently has awful taeks, and almost never misses an opportunity to be an asshole.

"A bit way too," is a formulation I've never encountered before. Advancing new horizons in English, that's the Michigan difference!

I agree with the overall point though.

My grandpa had a different…

My grandpa had a different maxim with almost the same numbers in reverse order: 1 percent of people think, 10 percent think that they think, and the rest would sooner die than think.

Needless to say, all MGoBloggers (except for those ones) are in the 1 percent.

Furthermore, the whole "B1G…

Furthermore, the whole "B1G is exposed as overrated" narrative is ephemeral and meaningless in the long term. Without looking it up, who can tell me which conference performed worst relative to expectations in the 2019 tourney? And how much will this year's results affect seeding next year?

Truly, they are less than…

Truly, they are less than the sum of their parts.

I'm not sure why you're…

I'm not sure why you're lumping transfers and early entrants together. Transfers can leave whenever they want, and most do so without making a positive impact on the direction of the program. OTOH, it's hard for a player to attract the sort of NFL interest that leads to declaring for the draft after three years without contributing at the very least to winning some games.

The biggest factors I see is…

The biggest factors I see is to retain talent at the player and coaching level and what I mean by that is to have players who stay on, don't transfer, leave early or bolt for the NFL.  It's like basketball.  You don't want one and done players but players who stay throughout their senior years.

Have to disagree with this, at least the bolt for the NFL part. In order to compete with the elite programs you absolutely need players who are talented enough enter the draft early. It's not like basketball; the NFL doesn't allow one and dones. Early round talent will still be on campus for three years, which should be plenty of time to utilize their ability while maintaining depth around them.

I'm talking about big…

I'm talking about big picture stuff. I really know nothing about hockey beyond put the puck in the net. What are the prevailing offensive strategies? What are the best defensive strategies? How do they complement each other? How does a coach's preferred strategy affect recruiting?

So, for people who like…

So, for people who like watching Michigan sports teams be good at stuff, but don't know shit about hockey, could we get something like Neck Sharpies On Ice (except with probably with a better title) please?

I don't know that Brian et…

I don't know that Brian et al are comfortable with Harbaugh's ceiling; they strike me as more apathetic and resigned to Harbaugh's apparent job security within the department. Brian mentioned the "curse of Frank Solich," referring to the fear that dumping a pretty good coach in the hope of landing a great one might lead to a terminal slide into irrelevance. Given that the RichRod/Hoke era is still a relatively fresh memory, it seems reasonable that those who decide Harbaugh's fate are influenced by that fear.

I'm not sure whether mgoblog's stance is "Harbaugh shouldn't be fired (at least not at this point in the season)" or "Harbaugh won't be fired so there's no point screaming about it." Personally I think he should get one more shot to win the Game, though I doubt he'll do much with it.

I'm also in a small town in upstate NY. I rode through a demonstration on my way to work today. Lots of honking in support, light police presence. Folks seemed to be enjoying being together in public.

Most of my coworkers are the sort of rednecks you describe, and the misinformation and deliberate mischaracterization of the protests is atrocious.

Just for shits and giggles I…

Just for shits and giggles I went back and re-read Zeb Jackson's Hello Post.   A consensus top 75 recruit with legit NBA potential is now a barely mentioned afterthought. Props to Beilein for reeling him in and props to Juwan for taking recruiting up a notch. There's a non-zero chance he'll be our favorite player two years from now, and that's our floor. The ceiling is... Giggity.

Paul Chryst had a lot more…

Paul Chryst had a lot more to do with shutting down their run game than Don Brown did last year. OTOH, Chryst is still HC, so, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Usually I'm mildly irritated when hitting The Jump on the new site takes me back to the top of the post. But this time I be like, yeah okay, I probably should read that again. Great write-up, Seth.

Should maybe wait for offensive UFR, but

Brian keeps talking about the defensive holding flag Crawford drew as if its the worst blown call that's ever gone in UM's favor, and I can't figure out why. Unless I'm thinking of a completely different play, the Purdue DB executed a perfecty-legal-within-5-yards jam approximately 12 yards downfield, which definitely warrants a flag.

Yep. Not an accident,

For Urban to specify lying about recruiting as the fireable type of lying.

"If I am able to coach, I want to coach at one place, the University of Florida. It would be a travesty, it would be ridiculous to all of a sudden come back and get the feeling back, get the health back, feel good again and then all of a sudden go throw some other colors on my back and go coach. I don't want to do that. I have too much love for this university and these players and for what we've built."

That show is ridiculous

It's visually amazing in terms of fight choreography and set/costume design, but the plotlines and characters require a very strong ability to suspend disbelief. It's kind of the opposite of Game of Thrones in that most major characters are involved in super-intense martial arts battles in every episode but only one semi-important character has been killed off through the first season and a half.

Hard to believe

How has Delaney gotten away with making us wait so long to see Rutgers take on Purdue? Isn't that the sort of titanic matchup that conference expansion was designed to create?

Fuck Duke!

And the best part of watching the late games is when

MICH 73

LOU 69

cycles through the upper right corner. Never gets old.

Yeah I understand

The B1G's highest seed being Purdue as a 4. But Minny as a 5 and Wiscy as an 8 seems exactly backwards to me.

Wahoo is correct.

Gaslighting is a specific technique where someone attempts to convince a subject that his/her sensory perceptions are not accurate reflections of reality. Lately it has become a trendy label to throw at any attempted obfuscation, but claiming a verifiable falsehood is exactly what gaslighting is.

Wagner

with the dagger!

But I said it in German, because, you know, he's from Germany.

Wagner

mit den Dolch!

Defense was excellent

When they couldn't buy a bucket to start the second half, they stayed focused and avoided breakdowns to prevent IU from getting any momentum. Well deserved road victory!

Sometimes crootin' reminds me of my favorite Onion headline

Wheelchair-Bound 12-Year-Old's Prayers Finally Answered

"No," say God,

Announcers said Indiana

is the best rebounding team in the B1G; we beat them 23-20 in that category. They only had 5 offensive boards, and I'm pretty sure at least 3 of those came on one possession after we lead by 20+.  Winning the turnover battle 16-6 was also helpful. Also, every starter plus D. Robinson scored double figures; assists and rebound were evenly distributed. Great team victory!

Perimeter dichotomy drives me nuts

It looks so hard for our guards to beat anyone off the dribble, and so easy for anyone to beat our guards off the dribble... I just don't understand basketball stuff I guess.

Yeah I know

They did that a time or two but I want it to be the first option, because IMO its the best option.

Best

Xavier passes like Spike. Worst: Xavier does not shoot like Spike. Blatant plagiarism aside, what I would really like to see is Wagner catching the ball in the high post with DJ in the low post/ short corner with shooters spacing the floor. Obviously that's not typical Beilein offense, but it would be nice if he could adapt.

Good write-up, Ace.

The really frustrating thing is that Harbaugh won the 2012 NFC championship by anticipating and exploiting Atlanta's use of the scrape exchange after Kaepernick ran for 180 against Green Bay the week before. For whatever reason, the Iowa gameplan was just a clunker.

Of all my failed pickup lines

Bare with me takes the cake.

So USF trades Willie Taggart

For a poor man's Willie Taggart? Not bad.

Rahk was far too passive

He only had two fga's, both of which were jumpers. He's not a good shooter, so if he's not attacking the rim, he's an offensive liability.

Pick and roll offense

was horrible tonight. That's one area where Donnal is still better than Wagner and Wilson; hopefully the chemistry will improve as the season goes on.

22 points in the 2nd half

And pulled out the win. Obviously not what we'd like to see, but similar offensive performances the last couple years resulted in blowout losses. So there's that.

For real.

Did he attack the rim even once tonight? Because that's pretty much his entire offensive game; if he's not doing that, the other team can defend 5 on 4, which is not ideal.

I second this

Multiple pictures would work a lot better than dotted lines, imo. Even just one more still per diagrammed play would make a huge difference, especially in showing how the defenders react to players' motions and cuts.

Oklahoma scores again

Has anyone in the Big 12 heard of this thing called tackling?
