Deyvid Palepale Has Committed to Michigan Comment Count

Seth December 9th, 2023 at 8:37 PM

Second time's the charm. Michigan was close to landing one of their top choices this cycle at DT before USC swooped in. One season of defensive play later, they managed to divert one of their favorite Pennsylvanians on his way to L.A. Deyvid Palepale announced this evening he's flipping from a new Big Ten team to the reigning champs.

A native Alaska, Palepale (pah-lay-Pah-lay) projects as the nose tackle of this class. He also plays basketball and track (discus and shotput). He's cousins with Lions lineman Penei Sewell.

We'll get a full writeup this week I imagine. He's the fourth DT in a class that includes Manuel Beigel, Owen Wafle, and Ted Hammond, but Palepale is the most projectable to nose tackle after Michigan failed to land a pure nose in the 2023 cycle. He's a 3-star but I wouldn't read too much into the rankings given the bloodlines and which schools were battling for him.

Given everything from Harbaugh, Moore, JJ, Blake, Semaj, et al in the national interviews over the last couple of months, how can any player willing to compete not choose to come to Michigan?

No offense Seth but it's either "native Alaskan" for someone who was born/raised in the State OR "Alaskan Native" for indigenous blood. Just missing an "n" at the end there, sorry for being anal retentive about my great state heritage. And I am a fun guy to be around, I swear!

Welcome big Pale!

"Palepale’s backstory is an interesting one. He’s Samoan, and he’s ultra-proud of his heritage; Palepale is already counting down the days until he gets his first traditional Samoan tattoo. His family hails from the islands of Samoa and Tonga with some Hawaiian roots as well, and he was born to parents Tumua Lauano and Sayonara Palepale in Anchorage."
