Semi-OT - Purdue drubs MSU by 20 (corrected)
Purdue beat the shit out of MSU to beat them 67-47 at East Lansing.
I am not sure if this is good or bad for UM - since our win against them when we play them may mean less in the eyes of the selection committee and at the same time their overall resume looks worse than ours at this stage.
Thoughts?

looks scary.
February 27th, 2011 at 8:26 PM ^
Does PSU= Purdue nowadays?
February 27th, 2011 at 8:26 PM ^
I think you mean Purdue, not Penn State
February 27th, 2011 at 8:32 PM ^
Purdue State University?
In seriousness, I actually would have preferred an MSU win which was generally opposed by most others.
Regardless, we still need to beat them next weekend which likely sees us in to the 4/5 game against Illinois. Beat the Illini and we should be good. Hell, lose to the Illini and we might still backdoor our way in given how soft the bubble is.
February 27th, 2011 at 8:36 PM ^
Jesus - what was I thinking ....
Also - I think if we beat MSU - we are in regardless now. Sparty's fate has been sealed after this loss
February 28th, 2011 at 12:43 AM ^
Not according the the RCMB. Ha! They still believe that MSU is garaunteed a spot in the dance due to their high RPI

Reaction: Pride somethingsomething Fall.
February 27th, 2011 at 9:09 PM ^
That's funny because right after he makes the pride comment he then says "Can we talk about Purdue a little bit?".
February 27th, 2011 at 8:40 PM ^
After watching this I am less worried about how the win looks than I am that MSU is gonna be PISSSSEEEDDD when they play us.
February 27th, 2011 at 8:42 PM ^
They should have been pissed for all of their games for the last month. They just look uninterested at this point.
February 27th, 2011 at 9:23 PM ^
Regarding the little brother...
February 27th, 2011 at 8:50 PM ^
They still have to play Wednesday (3 games in 7 days for them). They can be as pissed as they want Wednesday as long as they are tired and lethargic on Saturday.

What UM can control in their own right. Joe Lunardi has every bubble team wetting themselves giving everyone a sense of backing into a tourney spot. Give me a MSU victory and one in the BTT we will be all set. I see that team (MSU) is WEAK. If youre scared of Kebler, Thornton and Sherman then youre scared of everything.
February 27th, 2011 at 8:46 PM ^
I saw on a previous thread that Lunardi had us in, but when I went to espn it looked as though his bracket hadn't been updated. Am I missing something?
February 27th, 2011 at 8:50 PM ^
He's only publishing one a week but apparently he's updating it as he goes and Michigan will be in his bracket when it's published next.
Let's not get too excited though. We don't beat Sparty and maybe a BTT opponent and we'll be back out.
February 27th, 2011 at 8:50 PM ^
How does a team get elected to a specific bracket?
I don't see why Illinois, OSU, MSU, Wisconsin are all in different brackets.
February 27th, 2011 at 9:05 PM ^
To spread each conference out until the later rounds if they were to survive that far. Makes it more compelling for fans and teams plus it makes it balanced for each conference so there is no perceived bias to a particular conference.

I thought it was really funny in the "old days" of the 16-team, tournament. It took two wins to make the Final Four. The regions used to actually be regional, in case anyone wonders why they are called that. Here are the teams UCLA beat to get to the Final Four during their 60's-70's run when the tournament was still 16 teams:
1964: Seattle U, San Francisco
1965: BYU, San Francisco
1967: Wyoming, Pacific
1968: New Mexico State, Santa Clara
1969: New Mexico State, Santa Clara
1970: Long Beach State, Utah State
1971: BYU, Long Beach State
1972: Weber State, Long Beach State
1973: Arizona State, San Francisco
In 1974, they went to 25 teams, all conference champions, and went regional with a play-in round for lower-seeded teams and minimal displacement.
1974: Dayton, San Francisco
in 1975, it went to 32 teams, had at-large teams, and they had to play three games to get to the FF.
1975: Michigan (Ouch), Montana, Arizona State
1976: San Diego State, Pepperdine, Arizona
It may have been easy getting in, but it was easier getting out: Indiana beat them on the way to the Indiana/Michigan final.
It obviously wasn't intentional, but under the old method, UCLA had the easiest road to the Final Four. They were so much better than everyone else that it didn't matter, but I am glad the current system tries to be as fair for everyone as they can. If you get to the Final Four under the current system, you definitely had to play a lot of great ball to get there.

was considered to be the Gonzaga of the mid-major program. They were really really good back in the day. They won NCAA title in 1955 and 1956.
February 28th, 2011 at 9:57 AM ^
San Francisco had Bill Russell and KC Jones on those championship teams. There were a few upstart colleges that did better than expected in those days because they embraced integration.

If this is an actual question then here's a good read on what you've asked:

I have been following college football for the past 3 years (since I enrolled there) and college basketball starting this season.
Anyways - thanks for the link -I'll check it out.

Bluestreak-Plus one for asking a fair question. If I ever post such a question on a Cricket board please remember me!

After the game, Summers said MSU is running fewer plays for him, and that "I never would have imagined that, but I've got to roll with it."
“We’ve tried to fix the defense, we’ve tried to fix the offense, (and) the energy,” Summers said. “Maybe it’s something else. It’s not my place to say certain things. We’ve tried to fix everything with us.”

As easy as it is to root for Michigan this year, how in the world does anyone root for the human garbage in EL?

how in the world does anyone root for the human garbage in EL
that's more of an ontological inquiry...

What a Quisling fanbase. Never give an inch of ground to Ohio State! Do not be tempted by the wild passions of the hairless nuts!

"The better question should be why doesn't [Nix] get in shape and stay in shape."
Wondering how a coach gets away with selling his player out like that to the press. Lotta class from the angry midget these days, and a whole lot of respect from his charges.
February 27th, 2011 at 10:06 PM ^
If he's hinting at Izzo he's a complete moron. He should worry less about what can be improved around him and more on not jacking up 3 pointers ad nauseum.
February 27th, 2011 at 10:08 PM ^
...and I really love your signature text. But I digress.
One of my fondest themes/hopes/predictions since last summer (irony alert) has been that the players would first tune Izzo out and eventually turn on him because they know he was going to abandon them if the price was right. It looks like it is happening ahead of schedule.
And it couldn't happen to a nicer guy or a nicer team.
February 28th, 2011 at 9:43 AM ^
I'm sure the Cavs would have met Izzo's salary requirements. Getting Lebron to return Izzo's phone calls was probably another story.
February 27th, 2011 at 9:31 PM ^
Ha. That is the 3rd time this year they have been beaten by at least 20.

Where are all the MSU fans that were saying the team could rebound from Lucious getting kicked off the team Because Appling would just pick up more minutes?

Boiler up!!!!
February 28th, 2011 at 7:44 AM ^
Purdue beat the shit out of us at home too. Sure, that was before THJ decided to start playing like an All-American, but Purdue is very good.
With that said, MSU did look like complete crap. Everyone's focusing on Summers' struggles, but Green's really gone down the tubes since his triple-double against PSU. Even before then, he was hit or miss for most of the Big Ten season. I guess that sort of thing happens towards the end of the season when you're playing 30 pounds overweight.
February 28th, 2011 at 8:21 AM ^
The biggest difference is that he is now getting more attention. Teams don't have to worry about defending against as many players as before and are paying more attention to Draymond. I, for one, would gladly take him on my team.
February 28th, 2011 at 8:31 AM ^
Oh, I love Green's game too, and wish he would've come to Michigan. He's getting more attention, but I see him laboring out there more than he should. He has trouble keeping up with smaller PFs. 30 pounds might be a bit extreme, but he would undoubtedly be a better player if he lost 20 pounds.
February 28th, 2011 at 9:18 AM ^
Green isn't 20 lbs overweight. He's just a husky dude. He has a great motor and rebounds great for being, essentially, a short center (6'8" IIRC). Dude is a beast, and I'd take him in a heartbeat. He is MSU's emotional leader and is someone to fear if they ever get realy motivated. He is, hands-down, the only person keeping MSU alive right now. I think Kalin, while playing solid, has checked out mentally. Summers has checked out, but is playing like garbage. Thornton/Kebler just aren't that good, and Appling/Roe haven't developed yet.
Here's to hoping that our 6 days rest doesn't turn out to be too much rest. I want to crush them while they're down, and officially turn the basketball recruiting tide in the state.
February 28th, 2011 at 9:44 AM ^
I agree with everything you've said, just wanted to point out that Green is definitely more 6-6 than he is 6-8. The dude is a warrior, though, and I'd love to have him. Any team would. He's a glue guy who also happens to be very talented.
February 28th, 2011 at 10:18 AM ^
Beilein recruited Green pretty hard after he took the job here, and there was mutual interest. If Beilein had just had more time, he may well have landed him. Green would be a great fit in our offense with his perimeter touch.
February 28th, 2011 at 10:46 AM ^
If I remember correctly, he was Kentucky bound.
