META: Can we kill the SIAP tag?
Perhaps I'm buying myself a (virtual) one-way ticket to Bolivia, but can we please stop using the stupid SIAP tag?
I understand that occasionally information that has previously been posted on the MGoBoard is reposted and that it is annoying. I don't, however, see how the SIAP tag is at all helpful. The information is still reposted, and if anything, people will feel less inclined to search before posting if they throw the SIAP tag in their title. I would hope that no one really wants to annoy us all by reposting stuff. Also, I know other people have mentioned this sentiment in replies to SIAP posts, but I am hoping a dedicated topic will help lead people to stop using the SIAP tag. Perhaps I'm being naïve.

You're preaching to the choir.

If so, I'd like to fund your crusade.

But, what about all the people who spend hours surfing message boards and get upset b/c they make an inefficient click or two? What about them?

I generally ignore any post with SIAP in it because it is usually shorthand for "I found this on ESPN and it is 3 days old - I'm sure it is posted, but I 'searched' the MGoBoard's little banner and didn't see it." I would be fine with it dying a slow, painful death on a burning coach in East Lansing, but I doubt it will.

The SIAP tag is code for "Fuck all y'all, I'm too lazy and don't think highly enough of this place to search, but I put SIAP so it's cool don't make fun of me"

SIAP, unfortuntuately, is woven too deeply into the internet vernacular to die. It'll stick around here until voting starts working for real again.

Can we kill the META tag? While we're taking one annoying tag out, let's take them all out.

I think if we had a board with categories, there would be a normal one, an OT one, and a META one, among others. There definitely wouldn't be a SIAP category. I'm ok with META, not SIAP.

META is also useful for actual notifications about the board. It provides some actual information. On the other hand, SIAP just says "OP is a lazy fucker and shouldn't post anymore"

Warmer and fuzzier, negs counting, maybe a couple more mods to delete repeat posts: these would mitigate the SIAPers.

If rampant cruelty were replaced by warmth and fuzziness, MGoBlog would lose its special charm.
February 26th, 2011 at 10:58 PM ^
That doesn't make sense.

SIAP: Michigan regular season CCHA champs!
February 27th, 2011 at 3:56 AM ^
But did you make it a META post?
February 26th, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
a couple pages back...

I searched for it, but couldn't find it, but here is a discussion about killing the SIAP post. I for one, hate it and plan to never use it.
February 26th, 2011 at 11:17 PM ^
So what you're saying is, this thread has already been posted?
Oh, snap.
February 26th, 2011 at 11:51 PM ^
This has been going on forever...the SIAP just means "I don't want to bother checking"...it serves no useful purpose other than to enable lazy, mindless thread creation
February 27th, 2011 at 12:23 AM ^
I'm not sure if we can kill it. All we can do is kill those who use it.
February 27th, 2011 at 8:49 AM ^
They just can't all be buried in the same remote wooded area. That's too obvious.

Replace it with IGNORE - I Gave No Obviously Recognizable Effort.

I think this post should have had a SIAP tag. FAIL.
February 27th, 2011 at 12:05 PM ^
the working voting returns, killing SIAP will be much easier...

When you take into account the time people take to belittle someone else for a mistake that is of no actual consequence, the police are the ones who look foolish.
Ignore it if you already saw it. Or hit the back button if you click on it and discover it was already posted. So easy.
People who have limited time and scan the right side of the page really quick may not have seen the item earlier. (The original post is no longer on the front page.) So there are even times where reposting benefits people.

The police paid good money for these anodized metal batons called downvotes. Why not get your money's worth out of them?

It's not the police, it's the po-po.
February 27th, 2011 at 1:30 PM ^
What's it mean? I'm not privvy to youse guys' acronymic obfuscation.
February 27th, 2011 at 1:36 PM ^
That's what it means.

Thanks, now I see.
