Yeah I have a feeling that if there was ANY depth among the bigs that had played a minute of college ball Christian would have redshirted. Still if ifs and buts.....

Not to start and arguement but I believe most people aren't saying that he will redshirt rather it would be best for him if he did. We all know what is best for the player and what actually happens are not always the same. Does he redshirt probably not would it be better for him in the long run if he was able to, with out a doubt.

He could really fill up some room in the paint, that's for sure. I agree with others that redshirting would probably be the best thing for him. I'm guessing that he doesn't have much of an outside shot, and running the floor might be a challenge for him right now - at least for extended minutes. But heck, if he just rebounds, blocks some shots, and gets a few baskets here and there, he'd be a good addition to the team.

Yeah but.......can he shoot the 3-ball???

I guess you can't teach 7'4", but he is definitely raw. As he admits, he needs to work on his conditioning and mobility...big time!

And if anyone wants to see what you're talking about--that height doesn't certainly equal dominance--all they need to do is tune in to our next game against Illinois. Mike Tisdale is 7'1", immobile, soft, has no real basketball skills and can't get up and down the court. When he signed, Illinois fans were all "OMG 7 feet! Dominance!" 3 years later and they're still waiting on that dominance. It's just not an automatic thing.

First, 7'1 doesn't = 7'4.
Second, no one is saying that this guy is a sure thing. But the odds of a 7'4 guy having an impact in college is so great that you absolutely want to grab him if you have the chance.
He doesn't have to "dominate" -- mere competence from a 7'4 center is a pretty damn nice thing to have.

While a big like this guy would be a much needed addition, it doesn't sound too likely that he'll come here. In that interview, he says that he wants to go to a program that has a history of putting big men into the NBA and where he'd get the ball in the post a lot. As he's getting interest from Georgetown (among others) and wants to rule the blocks (rather than the arc), we might not have a good shot at him. Then again, I think our team would be so dangerous with a presence down low to get our shooters even more open looks. Morgan's been getting good work down low, so one never knows...

He would bring some needed shot block intimidation and some rebounds for missed shots!

Cityleaguehoops.tv. Ha! Not the city league I know.

has 3 players that are 6'9" or above, wow!

Wasn't there a pair of 7foot twins that played at Brother Rice 10+ years ago?

Translation: I want to play for a coach who will promise I'll be the focal point of the offense.
Not so sure that Michigan will fit his desires in that department. Sure, his size is great, but he looks slow and rather unathletic. Calling him a "must" recruit for Beilein is nuts.

I gotta say, I love the background music for that highlight reel - seems perfect for a big guy like that. The only way it could get better would be if this was the soundtrack.
February 14th, 2011 at 2:27 PM ^
This could be a huge help for Beilein to help take down the bigger schools in bball. Msu is going downhill and this only helps us so look out Little Brother....WEEEE BACK!!!!!

As long as he's agile enough to do what Jordan Morgan does (run the floor, execute pick and rolls, etc.), he'd be awesome. Low-post guys can thrive in this offense as long as they have some mobility and passing skill. (For a guy like Courtney Sims, it'd be tough.)

Can he play football?

When I read "7'4" Center" and he was from Canada, I immediately thought of Jon Antonides. JA was tall, but it is possible that glaciers once moved faster than he did. Imagine my surprise when I saw the video and this kid actually had some game. He is pretty quick for his size. He's rather one-dimensional, but it's a pretty cool dimension.
This might be the kind of guy who would benefit greatly from four years with JB.

To God's ears...

Reminds me of Kenny George from UNC Ashville. The kid was huge and fun to watch play but had all the issues being brought up. It does matter if you're raw/slow/awkward, even if you are over seven feet, but given time to learn the height is unstoppable. Best of luck to this kid, even if he doesn't end up Blue. Hated to see what happened to Kenny.

Every time I see a player like this I'm reminded of what Marv Harshman, the former basketball coach at Wash. St. used to say. When asked why he recruited very tall, seemingly immobile players, Harshman said: "Simple. Little guys get tired. Big guys don't shrink".
Lotta truth to that statement.
February 14th, 2011 at 5:10 PM ^
We could use one - I mean, most everyone will just be defending his pectoral muscles anyway, which leaves him freeand clear to make shots from wherever he damn well pleases. I see this as a positive.

This highlight reel honestly looks like me playing ball in my driveway with the hoop lowered to 7'
February 14th, 2011 at 8:15 PM ^
So he lives in Virginia and his brother in Florida? What's that?
Also, I thought we were one Ben Cronin away from being amazing. A huge set of crutches later and I'm still bitter.
Anyone remember Josh Moore? He was 7'2", 305 and was going to be the big stud UM had longed for. Played 3 games. Sucked. Stiff. Deal with it and realize size can still equal suck. I see 6'10" HS kids that can't play their way onto the playground.
Next you're going to tell me any 6'6" 320 lb kid that isn't a slob would be an amazing OL.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:18 PM ^
Amazing no, coached up to be competent...probably. It just depends on what you want the players to do. Honestly, given what we've seen with how JB uses bigs the kid doesn't seem to fit. Unless they want him in as a late game defensive shot blocker and rebounder, I don't get it.
