Helmet Stickers:Yes or No
Just wondering what the board's opinion on this is. I'm pretty young so I've never known Michigan with helmet stickers, but after looking at some pictures they look kinda cool. I wouldn't mind either way but maybe they will motivate our players.
If we do get stickers, I'd like them to be block Ms, maybe that would look neater and less crowded.

and the helmet stickers. That is an era gone by. But too many teams use them for trivial performance. Coaches want everyone on their team to have a helomet full of stickers. It looks as though the entire team are studs.
If there was a standard such as entire offence gets one for a TD and defence gets one for shutout then Im ok with it. Otherwise, we have the best helmet on the planet. Why mess with the best?

yeah im for helmet stickers if they are all blue and only put on the blue portion of the helmet.

I like that idea. Perhaps as a second choice they could go with 'clear' stickers.

I'd stay away from it. Besides the clutter, it doesn't promote team unity.

How about the coaches and team decide what motivates them and then the rest of us shut our pie holes and just support the decision and move on......if it brings out the competitor just a bit more for one or two kids, great.

Historically UM has had stickers and I can understand why most people would want them. But the fact is most fans, especially on the national level, would not know that and would assume UM is doing it to be like that school in Ohio. There is no way I want anyone to think we are trying to emulate that school.

Why would anyone think we're trying to emulate 'that school in Ohio'? Many schools have helmet stickers.
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:14 PM ^
For Michigan was doing it at Miami before OSU started going it.

Still don't like them, but not for that reason. Just no reason to mess with perfection.

Really? Do I really have to explain the mindset of most young kids out there today? Do I have to explain how the average, casual fan who knows nothing of UM tradition will view it? How about the average Buckeye nutfan? You think they're smart enough to realize that Bo started the whole thing? I assure you they are not and since we are linked by rivalry to that school in Ohio many will assume that is where it came from.
The helmet is perfection without the stickers, why clutter it?

If helmet stickers are to return to the helmets, then maybe have a max amount that are allowed on the helmet. Maybe say after every tenth one, change the color or shape of the sticker. Keep it classy, but also bring back tradition.

I'm saying no, but wouldn't be pissed if we implemented them again. I just prefer out helmets with less clutter.

If we were to go to helmet stickers i would want them to only be rewarded for great play. I just wouldnt want them to be handed out like OSU does for dressing for the game and other BS. I may be wrong on this but i think one OSU player got 12 in one game. As long as it wouldnt get to that point i could live with it, but still not a fand of the idea.
EDIT: Now that i look down my point is much more clear.

This is art.
This is clutter.

My thought exactly...
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:08 PM ^
As said before, it's most associated with Ohio. Even though we did have a tradition of it, our famous helmet is a strong enough image - I think we hurt that brand by reincarnating a tradition which is made famous by our ultimate rival.

I love the idea of a block M sticker, if it is small enough to not ruin the perfection of the winged helmet. Why not make a sticker for academic achievements as well? For instance, the right side is block M's, for athletic achievement, and the left side could be a different sticker to signify academic achievement.

And I pais $200,000 to M in tuition, so my vote counts more :)

They look ridiculous and disrupt the classic look of the helmet. I sort of get it on a boring helmet like Ohio State's, but definitely not on ours.

MSU even adorns their ski-masks with tiny Sparty Stickers

YES.
gee.....big ten championship almost every year with them....
hardly ever a big ten title without them.
go figure

No. With Arby's logo? Still no.

What if we get curly fries?

Curly fries turns that into a strong maybe. Throw in a jamocha shake and you got yourself a yes with thunder.

Only if they were small and mounted in an inconspicuous area of the helmet--around the ear-holes, perhaps.
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:27 PM ^
I would say no from the coaches' perspective because I would think you would want to emphasize a team atomsphere rather than glorifying individual accomplishments.
January 23rd, 2011 at 9:25 PM ^
Bo preached "the team, the team, the team" and yet he created the stickers. They can go hand in hand.
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:25 PM ^
True, just my opinion.
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:29 PM ^
I think the players would like to bring back one of Bo's traditions. Still, the staff would need to figure out how to triple stack for Denard.
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
Im all in for stickers
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:38 PM ^
I say yes, a design change of the stickers may be required but I like the Idea of them that it gives players something to work even harder for. Gives recognition to the leaders of the team and shows younger players who to look up to on and off the field.

When you have the best helmets in college football, as we do, you don't clutter them up with stickers. You don't clutter them up with ANYTHING.
