No clue if this has made the rounds already:
This is my first post. Mostly a reader. I run a college football site (thebestdamnpoll.com) and occasionally appear on ESPN 1070 in Indy. Reason I'm posting is because I've been sickened over this whole coaching search deal and I've gotten wind from multiple sources that Les MIles is the next coach @ Michigan. His buyout has been being negotiated since this morning by a firm (I don't know the name of the one DB hired). LSU was already anticipating Michigan making a run @ Les, but it appears Les has committed to coach @ Michigan. His agent was with Michigan officials this morning. I'd expect an announcement either tonight or Monday. As hokie blokie as it sounds, I'm not really trying to start rumors. I have better things to do, like fruitlessly ask my wife for booty or shovel snow. Check out our track record. We had Harbaugh days ago to SF. I have it confirmed by two extremely reliable sources. I'm waiting on a 3rd. Go Blue! Let's welcome in Les. Have a good night. Edited because it wasn't clear in the last title.
Who knows.

His comments tonight didn't sound like a guy who is a done deal to Michigan. Between that and the supposed animosity in the AD toward him I just don't see it happening.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:09 AM ^
Les told his OK State players as they were getting off the bus after their bowl game that he was going to stay at OK State. He then get off the bus, hopped a flight to Baton Rouge two hours later and the next day was at a press conference announcing himself as the new head coach at LSU. So, uh, yeah. I wouldn't put much stock into what is being said to keep everyone calm.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:13 AM ^
He has to say that to the cameras and players, what if the deal fell through?
January 8th, 2011 at 12:19 AM ^
If he had ducked questions and returned the focus to his team (a'la Harbaugh) I'd be less skeptical but it sounded like he went out of his way to make "Miles to Michigan" sound like a preposterous notion for both sides to consider with his "Why wouldn't they want an up and coming guy like Bo was?" comments.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:14 AM ^
Yeah, but we got his comments with a Jabroni filter, courtesy of Fox broadcasters.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:54 AM ^
You keep using this word "jabroni", and it's awesome.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:05 AM ^
I just hope he brings the chief with him.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:07 AM ^
Do people have a problem with Miles because of his character? Or do they honestly thing he's not a good coach? He's once again led his team to an 11 win season, I don't think his coaching chops can be questioned. Sure, he's done some strange things in-game, but he still wins a lot. Also, I really do think it's important for the next coach to have significant Big Ten/midwest ties, which Les does.
As for the age thing, I think people are making too big a deal of it. If you really want a return to the old Michigan stability, let him coach here a few years, get a good coach in waiting, and hand over the reigns when he doesn't have it anymore (easier said than done, I know).
If you don't want him to be coach because he's sleazy, that's another thing.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:13 AM ^
in spite of him...he absolutely blows at clock management; sometimes either LSU will pull something out of its ass to win or the other team screws up even more (coughTenneseecough). He's a good coach when it comes to things other than in-game playcalling.
The bigger issue is his Sabanism. I don't want anyone who treats players in that manner anywhere near my school.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:19 AM ^
I'd rather lose to OSU becuase of clock management problems but have it a close game, then get blown out. just hire miles, he's a very good coach and he's proven he can do it at the highest level.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:21 AM ^
I don't think his playcalling is bad, just his clock management. A lot of his "risky" calls are more unconventional than genuinely low-percentage.
I don't know where I stand on the ethics stuff. I guess the only rational way to view it is that if our school is okay with him (or anyone else), we may as well be, too.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:56 AM ^
... if Brandon is the AD that everyone has seemed willing to grant he was (until this week came around), it's not an unreasonable thing to assume that he'd just keep Miles on a short leash.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:24 AM ^
I agree with the distaste for the practice. However, the B1G already prohibits it by limiting the size of the class. So it will (should) not be done here. Also, I think the NCAA may actually do something about it too.
I do, however, share your broader concern about how anyone could do this to a kid, and what else he might do. I guess you have to consider that it is accepted in the SEC. Also, the perfect girl just left with the rich guy. We gotta ask someone to dance.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:18 AM ^
You are on to something about the age and coach in waiting. I would like to give Loeffler (sp?) a shot at OC with the idea that he takes over when Les hangs up his hat. Scott knows pro-style OBs, and has some exposure to spread concepts from Florida.
We would need a good DC. Has Shannon landed anywhere?
January 8th, 2011 at 12:08 AM ^
There's a guy over at RCMB (haha i know...) who has been floating some similar info, he's been posting deep-insider-type stuff for the past few days, seems somewhat well connected.
Honestly, would not be surprised in the least by this. General lack of any buzz over the past few days and LSU playing tonight seems to indicate -something- to me.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:15 AM ^
Posting similar rumors re Miles?
January 8th, 2011 at 12:25 AM ^
Whoops. Yeah.
Interestingly, same guy is floating rumors about Glen Mason as a secondary possibility... Which strikes me as highly implausible being that Mason is already, what, 60?
January 8th, 2011 at 12:34 AM ^
He's only 3 years older than Les Miles. I really hope we don't hire Miles. We'll be looking for a new coach again in 3-5 years.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:46 AM ^
That seems mighty presumptuous.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:52 AM ^
Why do you assume he's 3-5 years from retirement? He would be 60-62 years old in that timeframe. Plenty of guys have hung around longer than that.
January 8th, 2011 at 1:00 AM ^
... we can hire Hoke, who seems to be the other leading candidate at this point, and who may (by that time) have earned a job like the Michigan HC spot. He's already said we're his dream job and there's ZERO bad blood. I don't think he could argue that he was "passed over" for LES MILES, a MNC-winning coach.
And if Hoke hasn't succeeded beyond his wildest dreams by that point, well, maybe he didn't deserve the Michigan HC job after all.
January 8th, 2011 at 2:08 AM ^
Where's that Glenn Mason's Hot Wife dude when he need him? This is his time to shine, dammit.
Glenn Mason did well at UM (NTUM). Played for Woody, or maybe Bruce Earl.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:14 AM ^
Passing across the Twitters (God, I hate our new media world, and I'm only 27)...
WJBO.com BREAKING: Pelican Sports just reported on wjbo that Les Miles will take the head coaching job at Michigan and LSU is already in talks with Bo Pellini as Miles' replacement.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:51 AM ^
If that ReggieNoble04 poster on here has been right by repeatedly posting this same information the last few days, he/she deserves a serious pos bang when it returns for an amazing scoop.
January 8th, 2011 at 1:15 AM ^
Could not agree more. I was refreshing the last few days (first post) and decided ReggieNoble04 was full of it. If true I guess (s)he wasn't
On the other hand, the person who claimed Gruden bought a house in AA is probably inaccurate.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:23 AM ^
Pelini was DC at LSU when the won the 2007 title.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:32 AM ^
January 8th, 2011 at 12:33 AM ^
That would be awkward...
January 8th, 2011 at 1:17 AM ^
That would be hilarious
January 8th, 2011 at 1:53 AM ^
I don't know why I laughed at this.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:51 AM ^
If this is true, I have a couple of things to get off my chest.
FU DB, this is neither a surprise move nor someone worth opening the war chest for.
Second, he is better than Hoke and will have my blessing and full support. The Mad Hatter would be welcome in jhackneyland, just bring the grass, because you aren't eating mine.
Sooooo, who will be the coordinators and such?
Holy shit the world is coming to an end update: Les Miles confirms he IS NOT coming to Michigan, 5 minutes ago..
January 8th, 2011 at 12:56 AM ^
Russell Shepherd just told him that, but that doesn't say that Les Miles just say that. He could've said that yesterday.
Also, he said that to Ok State right before he left for LSU.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:48 AM ^
Would it be possible to just let Les stay at LSU and us take Bo? I mean when dealing with rageaholic or slime, I take Rage every time.
I'm starting to write in sing song...must ....stop....drinking.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:54 AM ^
But wow, these people talk sooooooooooooo slowwwwwwwwwwwwww
January 8th, 2011 at 12:18 AM ^
The only reason I believe this to be semi credible is because the people at LSU want Les gone. I have no idea why they dislike him so much, but he seems to have their blessing this time around. As we saw in 2007, Les seems very weary of screwing over LSU and their fans.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:18 AM ^
LSU never got over the 2007 sequence of events. I think it stung them that Miles required coaxing/$$$ to stay, and probably would have left had the job actually been offered.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:44 AM ^
Flat dislike Miles. Not even a damn little bit.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:19 AM ^
Pros: Great recruiter. Wins games even if it isn't pretty. Ties to the school and region. Better than Hoke...
Cons: Questionable off-field antics. Questionable on-field decision-making. We're on probation for 3 years and Miles has had recruiting issues before. Nobody's first choice...
I'm not a fan of Miles getting the job but I'd definitely prefer him instead of Hoke. The vibe we seem to be getting from other coaches is that they want no part of what's going on here. If Miles and Hoke are going to be the only options, bring him in ASAP and try to salvage this recruiting class. Also, please bring Chavis and Crowton along with him...
January 8th, 2011 at 12:21 AM ^
so...it's true that when you get married you don't get as much booty?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
January 8th, 2011 at 12:44 AM ^
I'm ok with it as long as he brings Frank Wilson and those recruits.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:01 AM ^
And that topic is...what are you drinking tonight?
January 8th, 2011 at 12:17 AM ^
The sweet nectar of blind hatred for the 49ers. And Four Roses bourbon, neat.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:28 AM ^
and gthe hatred of the 49ers thing too.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:31 AM ^
Sadly, water--I have to be up tomorrow at 7:45.
With a sweet, sweet dash of undying, Browns-vs-Steelers hatred for the 49ers.
January 8th, 2011 at 3:41 AM ^
5 PBRs, 2 Labatt's, and a glass of some random red wine. Yea, college is still fun, even when you're 24 and about to enter the real world for the 1st time ever. Hooray, Beer!
January 8th, 2011 at 12:02 AM ^
I'm sadly optimistic. It's a strange feeling.

The weather?
