CC: Schefter says "buzz around the League is JH to UM"

Submitted by rayfrom19 on
Adam Schefter (UM alum) on an interview today with Ross Tucker addressed the San Fran coaching situation. He said that SF wants a high profile coach and they love JH. His understanding is that JH is going to AA. The "buzz" around the League is that SF will not be able to get him as he will leave Stanford for Ann Arbor. The "buzz" is from "smart people that he trusts and respects".

I went to bed last night wishing there would be more porn on the internet, and low and behold I wake up this morning and there is a whole fresh crop of gals on here making their parents proud and doing gross stuff in exchange for a few pennies of ad-click revenue.

That is the power of positive thinking, kids.

I love RichRod as much as the next guy, but I think we need to take a look at all the evidence and take a realistic view on this.

Dave Brandon isn't stupid.  He knows his timeline would affect recruiting, but this is also Rich Rodriguez's first bowl game, so why would he strip Rodriguez of coaching in the game?  If he wanted to bring in a head coach, he could do it behind the scenes and then not have to worry about another 2007 coaching search.

Where there is smoke, there's fire, and IMO there has been a lot of smoke regarding Harbaugh to Michigan.

Also, there has been strong links of Rich Rodriguez to Maryland. If Maryland wanted to hire Leach, they would've already.  The longer they wait to hire a coach, the more and more I think that Harbaugh will be the next head coach at Michigan and Rodriguez will land on his feet at Maryland.

I know this opinion will not be popular, but that's just what it is, my opinion.

Waiting until after the bowl game to fire RR (and then hire a new guy) is also detrimental to recruiting. Which is partly why I think DB doesn't make the switch. See how easy it is to infer things with minimal information at hand?

called me first thing this morning to tellme that he heard some realator from Saline just sold a house to JH.  I told him that exact same rumor was flying around with Les Miles name attached to it in 07.

If JH is coming, I'll believe when DB announces it.  Until then I read all the CC stuff and just chuckle at the speculation.

At the risk of stating the obvious:

What will happen to UM alum Schefter if he ends up being wrong here?  Nothing, most likely.  He'll have plenty of company and his predictions will lost in the noise related to whatever else happens.

Why wouldn't Adam go out on a limb?  I would.

Way back in 1999, folks, Mr. Ed Yardini (http://www.yardeni.com/) said that the DJIA would drop to 6000 after the "Y2K debacle."  Never happened, of course.  And, IIRC, no one ever called the jacka$$ on his ridiculous prediction.

Do you really think DB is that shady to lead RR on and tell everyone that he wont evaluate until after the season but already have a new coach waiting? Is that what a Michigan man would do? I dont like whats going on folks..

It's obvious what is going on here.  Jimmy wants to stay at Stanford.  He's turned that program around, and was one game away from a possible national championship.  He's got a promising season next year if Luck decides to stay.  He's just enjoying the spotlight.  Who wouldn't love to see the entire nation fight over you?  It is a great, yet also a bit selfish, ego-booster.

By having some of his understudies "leak out" where he'd be heading, it creates more buzz about him.  We see it every 10 minutes on the board.  A new topic about where he is going, what he might be doing.  With reports that he's "coming to AA," people erupt with ideas on if he really is, if another team can bribe him with a better contract, etc.

Bravo, Mr. Harbaugh, for playing your cards and enjoying the spotlight.

I don't think JH himself ever said it.   But JH has never said it wasn't nor has he said that he wants to go to NFL either.  Everything is speculation until he stands at a podium with some team's banner behind him saying he's glad to be the new coach.

Personally, I thnk it's a done deal, but I have no sources or indside info.  All I have is a trail of breadcrumbs, $1.5M savings and a whole lot of big losses to our rivals and the best teams in the conference that we no longer can compare ourselves to.  Unfortunately for our current coach, the evidence of what has happened is pretty convincing.  I think his statement/mantra, "It doesn't matter, it's in the past" is going to be his undoing.  The past got him the job, and the more recent past is going to end his tenure here as well.

Wow.  If Harbaguh turns down a not so bad coaching situation in the NFL for UM, then maybe that is his no. 1 dream job, and doesn't feel like gonig to the NFL.  I'm sure if he publically spurns the 9ers for the Wolverines Goodell will immediate announce through a press release that Jim is fined 50k dollars.

PS

I am still holding out hope that Rod is our coach next season.

If, and this is a big if, IF JH is coming, I'm surprised there hasn't been far more leaks from assistant coaches, families, etc.  Someone else mentioned this awhile back on the board, I think, and to me it's the hardest to get past.  Good news is we'll know in a week.

Thing I think about with Schefter, goes back to something Brian posted awhile ago.  People who are legitimate sources may be putting stuff out there because they have an agenda of their own and they are trying to force things in a certain direction.  Not to say that he's wrong, just that he could have something from sources that incredibly good, but that may not be correct.
