Darius Morris ranked 12th on Rivals
I know he was rated much lower in the past few weeks but it's nice to see this kid really mature and be that floor leader we have been lacking.
This is what was written under his rating:
"He averages 7.1 assists and is shooting nearly 55 percent"

I see Tim Hardaway Jr also ranked number 19 freshman. Good for him.

I never know if your avatar is waving at me, dancing, or just shot a 1 handed foul shot like shaq while holding a spear and wearing a headdress. Please say it's the last one.
December 22nd, 2010 at 2:33 PM ^
Actually he's a dancer at a Luau in Hawai'i. Now that you mention it, I think the dance was actually called something like "Shaq doing a one-hander while holding a spear and wearing a headdress." It was quite shocking to learn how old that tradition was.

something along those lines i suppose?

+1 as this is the closest thing to ebonics that i've seen on mgoblog
December 22nd, 2010 at 3:27 PM ^
its interesting that McCallum and Zeigler are rated ahead of Hardaway Jr. because they are forced to be stars on pretty terrible teams... I wonder where they'd be if either came to Michigan
December 22nd, 2010 at 1:27 PM ^
That's great. Congrats Morris. I love watching him play because he gets everyone involved while still making great shots for himself.
December 22nd, 2010 at 1:27 PM ^
absolutely nothing like he did last year. His new-found ability to create shots for himself is something that he couldn't do last season. Another thing I've noticed is how this team rides momentum throughout a game...when they're hot, they're hot.
December 22nd, 2010 at 1:29 PM ^
Morris has made a quantum leap forward. if he keeps it up and we win some B10 games he will do nothing but rise up that board. This basketball team is exciting to watch, especially since you can see the direction they are headed.
December 22nd, 2010 at 1:54 PM ^
Darius totally has taken a Quantum Leap, much to the chagrin of the big ten; as he prepares to "bakula" all over the conference, all his opponents can do is shutter and utter "oh boy."

...Number 1 in our hearts.

Stu Douglass is still Number 1 in my heart.

i'd take morris over lucas, and no, i'm not kidding.
December 22nd, 2010 at 1:51 PM ^
Appreciate your enthusiasm and all but that is a ridiculous assertion at this point
December 22nd, 2010 at 1:57 PM ^
He is stating his preference and I, for one, do not find it so unbelievable. Especially when you look at the whole package.
December 22nd, 2010 at 1:57 PM ^
Not rediculous at all if you've watched them both play this year.
December 22nd, 2010 at 2:27 PM ^
i think morris has a more well rounded game and i like how he elevates those around him. you're entitled to your opinion.
December 22nd, 2010 at 1:57 PM ^
This just adds to my dismay that he wasn't included on the 66-person Bob Cousy award watchlist (nation's top point guard). I'm convinced the vast majority of sports "journalists" are far less qualified than the average MGoBlog reader.
December 22nd, 2010 at 2:07 PM ^
While I share your disapproval, I don't think the average Mgoblog reader could name 66 college basketball players period.
December 22nd, 2010 at 2:15 PM ^
I may have been a little hyperbolic. But it just frustrates me that people who are paid to cover college basketball (or many other sports) for a living are that lazy. It happens far too often.

How can you name one Plumlee brother and not the other. They are indistinguishable

average, i suppose. I see that even though you don't get espn, it looks like you get the B10 network.

Morris was ranked #25 the week prior, and was unranked the week prior to that. The Nation is starting to take notice. If he stays in the top in assists, he'll continue to rise IMO.
In terms of this comparison with Kalin, it's not even close so far this year. (long way to go). But why stop there? Let's look at the usual stats for all PGs in the conf (per ESPN). I wish I could better share the info I have for this (please let me know how I can do this), but Morris ranks:
- 1st in Steals, Assists+Steals+Blocks per TO, FG%
- 2nd in Assists
- 3rd in minutes, Rebounds
- 4th in Assists per TO
- 5th in points
The only thing he's not doing well is 3P FG%. For me, I'd rank Battle and McCamey as 1/2 in no order, then Morris and Jordan Taylor behind them. Kalin is struggling so far this season by his standards.
December 22nd, 2010 at 5:50 PM ^
Wonder why coach B isn't in there, he's done a great job if you ask me.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:38 AM ^
And he's not even on the Cousy watchlist. Doesn't make any sense. Whoever comes up with those award watchlists must not pay attention to any games and loses all credibility.

#1 in my heart!
December 24th, 2010 at 4:12 PM ^
... doesn't even include his 26 point, 12 assist, 0 turnover, 0 foul performance last night against Bryant.
Cool.
