The Meeting
So I have no idea what happens in an evaluation meeting between AD's and their football coaches, but do you think RR gets a chance to plead his case?
Does he get an hour to put up graphs of Freshmen starters, FEI indexs, returning starters, WVU highlights, academic progress, recruiting etc.. and sell it to Brandon while he is sitting at the table?
I thought of this going thru the excellent thread on the state of Stanford's defense. The last few days have been filled with a lot of garbage, but I have been impressed with the number of charts and graphs and arguments people have laid out. It got me to wonder if Brandon actually looks at stuff like that?
On one hand you would think he is the man that has to make this decision, he should know every single thing about the program and have looked at it from every different way and he has had his staff put together the same type of graphs and records for him to look at.
On the other hand I can't picture Brandon looking it over and saying "boy the FEI index shows us as the #1 offense RR is back". I'm picturing him making a decision on more of an overview and feel.
Curious how geeky you think Brandon gets on this stuff. What do you think?

What the f- is going on here!? Why? For the love of God (or some higher being if one exists), why?
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:20 PM ^
you were given all the points so you could apply negatives freely (without worry of dropping down to the low 6000's). Since you comment on all of these posts, I'm starting to believe you just enjoy complaining about these posts in general. If not I would expect a mere neg drop, and a nothing to see here, move on, no post.
December 2nd, 2010 at 5:04 PM ^
I've given up and put down the "get all coaching change threads to end" torch. The above was a regrettable off-the-cuff loss of temper. My apologies for the outburst.
December 2nd, 2010 at 5:17 PM ^
just neg to your heart's content, I'm betting you'll feel better after doing so.
December 2nd, 2010 at 6:03 PM ^
don't give up, there is a lot of us who comment here who have your back. Change comes slowly but we'll make things right.
December 2nd, 2010 at 6:34 PM ^
You just need a script for when you want to neg a post to search their past posting history and neg every post they've ever made. You can become your own personal NegBomb machine. I mean, you have enough points that if they've got enough posts, you should be able to take most people below the new thread threashold. If they cannot post new threads then problem solved.
December 2nd, 2010 at 6:35 PM ^
the rope. I'm back to have your back.
December 2nd, 2010 at 6:44 PM ^
Seriously. How much time did you spend killing boars in some Dillon Baxter recruiting thread from 8 months ago? Your point total confuses and infuriates me. I also considered replicating your strategem, but I am unsure whether it is sad or glorious.

I thought this post would be a disaster based on the title -- like "does anybody know what happened at this week's meeting between Brandon and RR?" -- but I must admit that I got a laugh out of picturing RichRod standing in front of Brandon flipping through graphs and charts and whatnot while presenting his case for another year.
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:20 PM ^
...or if anyone has any video on the meeting between RR and DB.
December 2nd, 2010 at 3:53 PM ^
The entire year has been Rich Rod makeing his case. What data can Rich Rod give Brandon he doesn't already have?
December 2nd, 2010 at 6:24 PM ^
He can outline his plans to make the program better. What's he going to do about the D and STs? Brandon needs to hear from RR what his plans are about those to make a determination about whether he should be given another year. Personally, the big question for me is whether or not RR is willing to change his philosophy on defense. Is he still convinced that the 3-3-5 is essential? Is he willing to give his DC more autonomy? Will he have the stomach to let Tall and Gibson go if a new DC demands it? If he indicates flexibility on these issues, I'd be more disposed to give him another chance.
December 2nd, 2010 at 3:55 PM ^
I'm sure they have informal and formal discussions about the current and future state of the program quite often. i don't think its done like on The Apprentice where he states his case and Brandon gives him the thumbs up/down.
December 2nd, 2010 at 3:55 PM ^
Do we need the 10,000 point limit now? J/K
Of course he gets to plead his case, and I am pretty sure they would not look at graphs like that, but who knows.
BOOM, settled.
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:13 PM ^
Expect Rich Rod to have a pay increase and extension before the meeting is concluded.
December 2nd, 2010 at 7:00 PM ^
and we do have a good football team.
December 2nd, 2010 at 3:58 PM ^
No graphs allowed at these meetings. All presentations are made with a flash light and shadow puppets.
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:06 PM ^
I have heard that DB has given special permission for a presentation by GERG's beaver.
December 2nd, 2010 at 6:23 PM ^
He just had it stuffed.
December 2nd, 2010 at 6:38 PM ^
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:13 PM ^
I don't think reminding Brandon about GERG's defense will help RR's case

December 2nd, 2010 at 4:17 PM ^
Pal, you could not be more wrong. I have it on good authority from an insider (ex-player and major honcho in the Athletic Department) that all such presentation are done in interpretive dance in an eclectic mix comprising of techno, jazz fusion, and bluegrass music.
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:52 PM ^
This West Virginia HICK is RUINING our PROGRAM. this is MICHIGAN. The presentation DAMN WELL SHOULD BE MO-TOWN. BO WOULD NOT ALLOW THIS
RABBLE
MO-TOWN
RABBLE
/hope the S is implied...
December 2nd, 2010 at 5:02 PM ^
Does interpretive dance mean Will Ferrel dancing with a ribbon in his hand?
December 2nd, 2010 at 5:26 PM ^
Sorta kinda - it's RR dancing with a string of shredded documents and a stuffed animal.
December 2nd, 2010 at 3:58 PM ^
It works like any other company, he relies on the people below him to present him with information to make the correct decision coupled with his own information. Although RR most likely would have a say in discussions on where the program is headed; RR won't get to "plea" for his job. Looking at it from that perspective has RR in a defensive situation where he is trying to keep his job, rather than promoting the progress of the program. As well as undermining the authority and ability of the AD to make an unbiased, business decision.
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:00 PM ^
... you mean this is not about a new spinoff from The Office?
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:03 PM ^
Consider me a lieutenant bombadier:
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:06 PM ^
...because it got old. You may want to follow in his footsteps.
But seriously, the title may have been a bit melodramatic, but that doesn't make this a terrible post. It's actually an intriguing question. A lot of the posts we've seen are silly, but let's not paint with such a broad brush.
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:23 PM ^
why can these thoughts not all be contained in one thread specifically for the discussion of all of these kinds of things? Nevertheless, the title was so infuriating that it deserves to be negbombed into oblivion.
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:48 PM ^
You mean a thread that would somehow remain at the top of the MGoBoard like it was stuck up there? If only that were possible.
Seriously, the incessant posting by Ziff is getting out of hand. It's like a monkey throwing poo at this point. Originally funny, now stinky, hard to clean up, and may be diseased.
December 2nd, 2010 at 7:38 PM ^
This isn't a coaching change thread, it was a part tongue in cheek part serious post of what DB looks at? If I post too much how do you have 17K pts?
December 2nd, 2010 at 7:07 PM ^
I was going to go visit her while I was in South America but then she died...wait, oops.

Note to whomever negged this reply:
This dude has OVER ONE MILLION MGoPoints. Now he has OVER ONE MILLION MGoPoints minus one.
By the way, profit, I thought that your lack of tolerance for these types of posts was a bit much 2 days ago. I have now joined you in the camp of "I can't freeking stand reading this crap but can't help myself because I will read anything relating to Michigan football."
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:24 PM ^
Even I've gotten annoyed of the annoyed cat, and he's pretty damn annoyed like I am.
December 2nd, 2010 at 6:01 PM ^
Annoying.
December 2nd, 2010 at 7:54 PM ^
Damn right he is.
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:24 PM ^
Remarkable that he has gone from a few thousand to over a million over night.
Maybe he has the infinite power to neg away at any, if not all, CC-related posts.
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:34 PM ^
but your complaint about negging someone with 1,000,000 points is weird to me, since you didn't point (PUN!) out the pointlessness (PUN!) of others upvoting him. It doesn't matter if he had 6,000 or 1,000,000 points, giving them a negative point is not going to hurt his status. All a negative point can do at this point is show that someone disagrees with the post, just like upvoting shows agreement or in facebook terms "like".
December 2nd, 2010 at 4:42 PM ^
I don't know, remember the guy with the Pat Bateman avatar (MichMike86)? He lost like 3500 points when Shawn Conway committed--and that was when 3500 points was a lot.
December 2nd, 2010 at 5:01 PM ^
but that may have been before the neg points cost you a point.
December 2nd, 2010 at 5:17 PM ^
The whole point thing is fun and it does serve a purpose but sometimes the negative feedback by awarding a -1 is not enough. Sometimes actual posts are necessary to show the pointlessness of a previous post/thread. Some people just do not get the hint that a neg provides. (Personally, I do, for what its worth.)
