OT: NFL/Lions Open Thread

Submitted by formerlyanonymous on

Lions at home vs Washington today. I've seen the Redskins play a few solid games this season. It'll be a tough game for the Lions.

Other NFL talk encouraged. I'll be in here for a bit for MNF. Go Texans.

Unfortunately for me the guy I am playin this week in fantasy has CJ. He almost has more points than my entire team so far. I am looking at another loss and a 2-7 record. Fuckin autodraft. Or should I blame Gerg?

were amazing aside from two big pass plays.  They shut down the running game and made Donovan's life miserable.  This isn't the same old Lions.  They're the team on the rise and has a bright future.  They're just a few pieces away from becoming a playoff team.  This is exciting for the Lions fans and you have to give credit to Mayhew and Schwartz for overhauling the roster to the point where the Lions are a competent team.

After watching us most weeks this season, we actually look like we have a comparable level of talent to most of the teams we've played.  If we can shore up the special teams and cut down on the dumb penalties I wouldn't be surprised to see us go .500 from here on out, especially with a semi-favorable schedule ahead.

but they may have destroyed the Redskins season. What was Mike Shanahan thinking when he took out his Hall of Fame QB, and put in Rex Grossman? Shanahan said Grossman gave them their best chance to win... really?

You know there are players right now who are thinking, is our coach... insane? Something like this could lose you your football team. One of the strangest moves, I have ever seen a smart football coach make.

"With a straight face, Shanahan explained that he thought Rex Grossman gave his team the best chance to win down six with two minutes remaining. Shanny blamed McNabb's multiple three-and-outs on thinking too much instead of just playing. He also cited Grossman's greater familiarity with the two-minute offense going back to last season with Kyle Shanahan in Houston."

Well if you don't want a QB that thinks too much, definitely put in Grossman.

1. Green Bay Packers 5-3

2. Chicago Bears 4-3

3a. Detroit Lions 2-5

3b. Minnesota Vikings 2-5

The Lions are two games back in the NFC North standings.  The Lions would've been one game back if it weren't for that stupid rule in the 1st game of the season.  That really pisses me off now that I think about it.  The Lions still have a shot of winning the division and it's a pretty bad division.

The Lions will have a tough game coming up against the Jets.  The key is how will the Lions offense respond to the vaunted Jets defense.

...this Lions victory the more I contemplate it.

After the dong punch KR for a TD by the 'Skins to regain the lead, the thought in my head was, "Gee, same ol' Lions."

Then they totally upended my expectations by doing what the good teams do. They found a way to make their own luck in a tight game and come out with the victory.

I love the heads up insurance TD from Suh and how he already looks like a vet out there. He's definitely ROY material. Also love how competitive the Lions have looked in all their games so far.

If the Lions continue to trend upward, I think the main worry becomes keeping Stafford, CJ, Suh, and Best happy while they fill needs on their way to being a wild card/playoff contender.

Also loving how old man CWoodson is maintaining his DPOY form, especially against the big-mouthed Jets.
