That sounds about right.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:51 PM ^
7 wins before the season started- STILL possible
October 16th, 2010 at 7:05 PM ^
Agreed, but also the way the team plays is important. Watching bad tackling and bad penalties is hard. And watching that defensive scheme is even harder.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:51 PM ^
and 2 weeks ago you probably thought 9 or 10 wins was possible.
we have no chance of getting to 8 wins. even 7 is a stretch at this point.
October 16th, 2010 at 9:05 PM ^
Purdue and Penn State suck this year. Illinois is pretty meh. You're telling me that between those three teams, then OSU and Wisco, we have no chance of winning three more? You are fucking stupid.
October 16th, 2010 at 10:27 PM ^
Illinois is improving every week. I wouldn't get too cocky about them.
October 17th, 2010 at 11:18 AM ^
M loses to two top 10 teams and suddenly beating 2 of 3 bottom of the pack/mediocre big 10 teams is a stretch.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:52 PM ^
October 16th, 2010 at 6:52 PM ^
i predicted 8-4
loosing to sparty was hard and this loss is even harder since we shot ourselves in the foot the whole game.
im very sad right now.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:53 PM ^
Mods, would you please shut the board down. 24 hr rule applies people.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:55 PM ^
I'm sure we'll see nothing but detached, reasonable discussion conducted in a civilized manner.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:55 PM ^
I still advocate for the "are you serious" button before the "save" button.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:52 PM ^
7 wins plus a bowl game sounds right to me.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:53 PM ^
PSU - 35% chance of a win
Illinois - 50% chance of a win
Purdue - 75% chance of a win
Wisky - 5% chance of a win
OSU - 1% chance of a win
7 wins sounds right to me
October 16th, 2010 at 6:57 PM ^
we have a 35% chance to beat a miserable PSU team who has 9 starters out for the season? give me a break, if anything we have the best chance to beat them. I don't care if it is at home or not give me a break
October 16th, 2010 at 7:00 PM ^
I think you need to switch Illinois and PSU. Then you need to make PSU more than 50%...
October 16th, 2010 at 7:01 PM ^
Dude, PSU lost by 20 to Illinois in Happy Valley. That's got to be at least a 60% chance.
October 16th, 2010 at 7:15 PM ^
I would move PSU up to 50% and leave everything else alone.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:53 PM ^
*raises hand*
October 16th, 2010 at 6:55 PM ^
that understands RR's first full year of recruits are now sophomores. I have stated I will reserve judgement when they are Seniors. Go Blue, beat Bama in 2012. Patience is a virtue!
October 16th, 2010 at 6:57 PM ^
With the hope of a bowl not in the Motor City.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:58 PM ^
Yes I am a fan, yes I am a season ticket holder, no I am not a troll. However, I don't see UM winning more than one more game this year. Purdue will be the only shot. It sucks saying this but I just don't see this team winning with that defense.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:59 PM ^
Uh, have you watched Penn St. this year? Just curious.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:58 PM ^
Predicted 7-5 and hoped for 8-4. After the hot start I hoped for more... but the defense just isn't there yet.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:58 PM ^
Honestly with the mistakes I saw on the field today, I'm thinking 6-6 or 7-5. Maybe 6-6 if we can beat Purdue which isn't a sure thing with our D. Our D makes every game a question. And it looks like another sub .500 year in the b10.
October 16th, 2010 at 6:59 PM ^
The D actually made some big stops to let the O have a chance. Turnovers are a bitch.
October 16th, 2010 at 7:04 PM ^
They make stops every game. It comes down to a handful of big plays each game that the D cannot make due to a number of variables. It's certainly discouraging. I would say the offense has let the team down more than the D the last two weeks.
I know what the O did late today, but I will still stand by the previous line.
October 16th, 2010 at 7:01 PM ^
I predicted at least 8-4 before the season... but that was also before 5 million transfers and Woolfolk going down.
Expectations:
Denard: ↑
Linebackers: ↓
October 16th, 2010 at 7:02 PM ^
I predicted 6-6. That doesn't mean I should be happy with that though.
October 16th, 2010 at 9:03 PM ^
What does it matter what one predicted? That's a rational guess, not an assessment of where we should be. I predicted a loss today. Doesn't mean I was going to be happy with it.

I wonder how many people who use this meme, or say we weren't supposed to win anyway picked us to win in The Knowledge thread?
October 17th, 2010 at 6:46 AM ^
Yes.
Everytime I see him type "yes," I think of Triumph.
October 16th, 2010 at 7:03 PM ^
Just sayin'. Lets not get ahead of ourselves.
October 16th, 2010 at 7:08 PM ^
The key here is TURNOVERS!!!! If we clean that up and stop with the stupid penalties we can beat anyone...
Illinois and Purdue are must win games....Penn St is definetly beatable
Wisconsin and OSU...Hey anything can happen.
October 16th, 2010 at 7:09 PM ^
I said 8-4 but I am thinking more like 7-5 with the way the Illini defense is playing.
October 16th, 2010 at 7:12 PM ^
If this team improves just a little, victories against PSU, Illinois, and Purdue should happen. I think the defense was a little better, despite still allowing its requisite 38 points. I think it shows potential for improvement as the younger players gain more expeience.
Most of all, though, I think Tate Forcier has earned the right to be Option 1B. I think both QB's should see time in the rest of the games, including the big one in Columbus. It would give opposing defenses a lot more to prepare for, and keep them off balance. Denard hasn't quite connected with recievers well enough against really good defenses, but is still a threat to take it to the house on any play.
I wanted two QB's all along. Whatever Forcier did to lose his spot, Denard earned the right to play, and kept earning it. But today, Forcier has earned the right to see playing time on a regular basis. I would play both in the first half/three quarters and go with whoever is moving the ball the best in the fourth.
Such an approach may have won the game for Michigan today. And it may win them a game they aren't "supposed to win" somewhere down the road.
And you really never know about OSU. I still think they will find a way to get eight in the regular season.
October 16th, 2010 at 7:23 PM ^
October 16th, 2010 at 7:51 PM ^
we beat Purdue, Penn St and Illinois....
No worries...our defense looks good considering it looks more like a HS defense than big10
Go Blue!!
October 16th, 2010 at 8:01 PM ^
9-3. We can still get there, just need to move the win against State to Wisconsin or Ohio State. I like the idea of two weeks off after two tough losses for the team to regroup and get in some good practices for the younger guys. Liked the moxy of the team coming back.
October 16th, 2010 at 8:12 PM ^
I had us at 10-2, but I still think we can go 9-3. After watching the early beatdown by Wisky, maybe 8-4. The d is getting better, but the special teams is a wild card. I know, I said this in a couple of other threads.
October 16th, 2010 at 11:00 PM ^
ranging from 7-5 to 9-3 early in the season. Even after today misques that cost us the game I still feel confident that we can beat illinois, purdue, and Penn State as for OSU and Wisconsin if we can neutralize their runningbacks and force their qbs to make big plays it could put us in contention to pulling off the upsets in those games.
October 17th, 2010 at 12:31 AM ^
Purdue lost to ND and Toledo, before Marve went out. It's not a gimme, but they aren't that good.
Illinois managed 6 points against MSU today. UI has a decent defense, but their offense is bad. Our D should be able to stop their poor O. And then it's our O against their D, and I think we win that.
Penn State. They are probably the worst of this group. And we have an extra week to prepare for them and get healthy.
If we win all three and go 8-4, we should all be happy with that. 3 win improvement over last year, .500 in a tough league where we miss the worst team and a meh team, and a good bowl.
If we win 2 out of 3 we go 7-5, still make a mediocre bowl and look forward to 2011. 2 win improvement over the year before, lots of players coming back and a solid group of recruits coming in. Setting aside the "We're Michigan we should win the Big Ten every year no matter who we put on the field" type expectations, both of these scnerios are good for a team that is realistically still building. This stuff takes time, the road we're on is a slow one but leads to a great place.
October 17th, 2010 at 12:44 AM ^
I predicted 7-5.
Unfortunately we've now lost 2 of the 3 games most of us categorized in the "toss-up" category.... :/
October 17th, 2010 at 6:14 AM ^
It's mind-boggling to me that some are still thinking 9-3 or 10-2. With our defense and ST woes, 7-5 would be a significant achievement. I've been saying the same thing since the IU game that I said last year after our fifth win: getting that sixth is not guaranteed by any stretch. There isn't a single game remaining on our schedule that anybody should regard as a "probable win." I think 5-7 is as likely as 8-4.
October 17th, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
10-2 was my pre-season prediction. I thought that the offense was going to be real good, but for the first 5 games, we were better than I even imagined. I knew our D was young and inexperienced. I thought we might be able to get a good rush and GERG would scheme and keep us in the ball game. I had no idea that our D would be as porous and no idea that the special teams would be pretty bad. Maybe I was just drinking the cool aid pre-season. I thought our only 2 losses would be to OSU and either Wisky/Iowa. I am far from an expert, this was just my opinion.
October 17th, 2010 at 11:13 AM ^
I signed on for 8-4 for this year so I can't jump ship yet.
But I am really, really tired of the same ol' excuses. "We just didn't execute." "We didn't make those mistakes in practice." "it's just a few mistakes we need to eliminate..."
Someone posted:

How many times did we say/hear that last year? Well, it's the same ol' story. After two years, and we keep repeating the same crap excuses.
Insanity is doing the same thing in the same way and expecting a different outcome.
I'm still a fan...but I am no longer a believer. I sense a collapse coming similar to last year and I can't get excited about that. I don't see our team improving week/week or year/year. I could be wrong and I REALLY hope I am.
October 17th, 2010 at 11:48 AM ^
into thinking that 8-4 was possible. No more. I am PRAYING we get to 7-5 so that we can get at least 1 more year for RRod and his offense to shape up with upperclassman all over the place.
