Terry Richardson blowing up

Well, if anyone was doubting the caliber of play of Terry Richardson, and if we'd want a 5'9" CB, I think peoples' minds are about to change. Alabama and LSU have offered Richardson. You can never have too many CBs, so landing Richardson, a Cass Tech kid, would be awesome.

As always, great work Tom!
At this point, any CB who's good enough for Alabama and LSU is good enough for me. Hopefully with the 3 current Cass Tech grads we have, it'll be enough to convince him to go blue.
Seems like Cass Tech is our best recruiting pipeline right now.
And according to MSU's 2009 roster, they don't have a single Cass Tech kid.
(They don't have their 2010 roster up yet because they are dirt.)
Question is would you sacrifice a scholly to establish a good pipeline?
Have we had many successful players come out of Cass Tech in recent history? Will Campbell is the biggest name we've currently got and he's really still unproven. Don't get me wrong, I think he's going to be a beast in 2011 at the latest, but I don't know much about the talent Cass Tech produces.
I guess Vernon Gholston, although he hasnt done anything in the NFL. Everyone else is yet to be determined.
he went tOSU
I know, just first name that came to mind from Cass Tech that produced in college.
Another one is Joseph Barksdale.
is that fella recent enough?
Graham went to Crockett.
How much are you "sacrificing" a scholarship when it's for a kid who has offers from a couple of the top teams in the country?
Sorry, I should have clarified it some more. I guess I meant offering someone from a school to establish a relationship with a coach. Someone who you know will work hard but probably does not have a chance to produce on D1 level. Not at all saying we have done this in the past. Purely just hypothetical question at my lunch hour.
If it means we get the trio of James Ross of Orchard Lake St Mary's, Royce Jenkins-Stone, and Terry Richardson. All 3 seem to be studs.
Yes Please!
I remember reading articles about a 5'9" CB from Cass Tech 2 years ago, he had offers from LSU, Georgia ect....Booboo something. It's hard during the off season, but I'm really trying to take a new approach, and wait until these guys actually produce in a winged helmet.
What else am I supposed to use as an outlet for my mild case of pedophilia.
/s, just to be safe.
I get excited just like everyone else when a big recruit commits, but I end up with unrealistic expectations for these kids. It has nothing to do with Terry Richardson, he may end up being the shit, but I'm just using Cissoko as a prime example. I remember reading about him at the Army junior combine, they had to force him off of press coverage because the WR's at the camp couldn't even start routes against him, he ended up being a huge letdown as we all know.
Agreed. Michigan football has to be the biggest builder of patience in my life these days. Between waiting years for recruits to commit, months for the season to start, a week for the next game during the season, sometimes a whole day for the next frontpage post, and a few minutes for something new and interesting to pop up on the board, I'm miserable almost 99% of the time.
For every Henne, BG, Woodley, there are 2000 Kevin Grady's, Massey Brothers, Pierre Woods, BooBoo, Bass(not his fault, love him, just sayin a letdown) ect ect ect ect....
For et cetera, "and the rest" (loosely translated).
Just because 1 5'9" CB from Cass Tech has had some issues with staying out of trouble doesn't mean that another guy from Cass is going to befall the same fate.
How about let's give him a chance like every other recruit and not compare him to Boo Boo (even though it is hard not to do).
Bouje. You are pretty much stereotyping every 5' 9" CB from Cass Tech just because of Cissoko's issues. Physical stature and personality are not alike. If we picked up Terry Richardson, I would be all for that.
Plus, Antonio Bass wasn't a let down. He probably would have been very good and if things had gone differently for his career and been able to be on the field during the 2008 season maybe he could have been the QB for the team. He played that in high school.
I digress.
I fail to see how Antonio Bass figures into the discussion here.
That's why I clearly said, not his fault, love him. My point was a 4 star guy who Lloyd stated was the best athlete he's seen since Charles Woodson never really got to prove it on the field. How is not getting to see him reach his full potential not a letdown? My whole point is we have unrealistic expectations of 18 year old kids before they even step on the field.
.... that article talked about his off-field issues. I still think he could have been a hell of a baller if he had focused.
a MUST get.
I don't think an LSU offer is what it was three or four years ago, but this is still encouraging.
But on the flipside an Alabama offer isn't either, but in the other way. Hate to say it, but unless we have a good season, it's probably going to be hard to pry away this guy if Saban really wants him. I don't say this to knock our staff, but I respect Saban's recruiting and coaching ability a lot, even if he probably is a huge ass.
Rivals call 911 instead of writing articles and hoping a EMT reads it?
everytime i see the name terry richardson, i can't help but think of this photo (in addition to a bunch of other racier stuff):
sure booboo had problems, but i would argue that there is a great support system at michigan for them because cass tech puts a bunch of good kids in michgan just in general meaning that kids that commit here have a good chance of having at least a few fringe friends from high school going to college with them to help keep them on the straight and narrow ...i am all for signing t. richardson up
Terry Richardson and his teammate Royce-Jenkins Stone (LB) are both big targets in the next class. With a good season, I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them jump on board. RIchardson really, really likes Michigan. I think Stone does as well.
Of course, LB James Ross (OLSM) is also going to be vying for that #1 spot, and he's a Michigan fan too.
Of all the 2012 kids, Stone is highest on us. Regardless of whether or not we have a good season I see him going blue, he loves Michigan. My hope is that he can bring Terry Richardson with him.
Personally, I'm not a fan of all these midget cornerbacks. The only decent-sized corners on the roster after this year will be Cullen Christian and JT Floyd (assuming Turner finally moves to safety). Then you've got Hollowell, Brown, Avery, and Talbott, not to mention small-ish safeties like Teric Jones, Thomas Gordon, Ray Vinopal, etc.
It remains to be seen exactly what Michigan's defense will look like, but if you look at Michigan's last several top cornerbacks, they've been 5'11" to 6'1". I know that we're still going after taller guys, but it doesn't help the cause of getting big cornerbacks when you hand out offers to shorter guys and they immediately fill up your quota at the position.
I see what you're saying, but Richardson is a stud. And anytime you can get a stud prospect at a position of need, especially from an established pipeline, I think you do it
...even if the "stud" doesn't fit what you need? I disagree.
Sure, not always. But very rarely (maybe never?) are there kids with offers comparable to LSU and Alabama in-state that UM doesn't offer. Even when we were signing top-5 classes.
I know you responded on principle, but do you really think we won't offer Richardson?
No, I think we will offer. But dammit, I'm growing tired of these 5'8" and 5'9" corners. If he hits a growth spurt, I'm all for it. But if he remains midget-sized, then I will continue to be frustrated with the size of our defensive backs.
I think we're all forgetting that this kid is only sixteen. Personally, I didn't stop growing until my senior year. I still think it's a possibility that he's up to 5'11 or 6' by the time his NSD rolls around. If I recall correctly, the first time I saw him listed he was 5'7, now he's 5'9. This kid still has some growth in him.
I was 5'7" when I was 15 and I'm 6'2" now. So that gives this kid a 50/50 shot...or something like that.
between ages 16 and 20. So if he's really 5'9" at age 16 and he grows an average amount, he'll be close to 5'11" at age 20.
Here's the CDC chart:
You can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting a graph. Love it, love it.
But averages are just that, averages, not necessarily indicative of actual results.
For example, at the end of 6th grade i was 5'3'', 130. Before 8th grade ended i was 5'11'' 175. I grew absolutely 0 from age 14-15 on. For my growth, there was a kid who grew a lot at age 20+
I guess what I'm saying is - yes, your graph is correct. But without knowing how much this kid has grown already, when his parents grew quickly, etc. we have no idea what he's going to do. Let's just hope he comes to Michigan and is amazingly productive
David Robinson finished high school at 6'7". He graduated from the Naval Academy at 7'0".
Does that count?
I have a brother who grew 4" or 5" in college, but of course he looked like a 12-yr-old when he graduated from high school. And a niece (with a very short mother) broke her hand as a teen and was told that the bone development shown in her x-rays indicated that she had finished her growth. Unfortunately leaving her the height of her (very short) mother.
Maybe I shouldn't have said anything, lest checking sophomore-in-high-school x-rays doesn't become part of the recruiting process...
