Florida Beats Tennessee on Hail Mary
Tied 20-20 w 9 seconds left, Felipe Franks throws a 65 yard bomb to win the game in regulation and beat the Vols. Incredible win, exciting game.
Good for the Gators, nice to see an opponent that Michigan has already beat get a nice Top 25 win against another SEC opponent. And to heck with the Vols!

Yes, to the untrained eye. However, what McElwain was doing with that clock management was moving some pawns out to see if the knights would do something or other.

Never move your queen out early. Also never let a man get behind you on a hail mary situation.

SImilarly, never let a man get behind you in a prison shower situation...

We beat a lucky team.

Eh, I wouldn't say so.
The unluckiest play of that game went AGAINST Florida, when they had a 75 yard TD run but he fumbled it on the half yard line and it went out of the endzone for a TN touchback instead of a UF touchdown.

But there is a one yard line and a goal line...there is no half yard line. There my OCD has been appeased, you may all go back to your normal lives and act like this never happened.

Why bother calling a prevent defense for a hail mary when you could call something that lets their receivers get behind your safeties?

There wasn't enough time. That was going to be the last play of the game.

If he goes down inbounds with one second left, the clock will expire after the chains are set. Remember the '98 Rose Bowl?

I did see the game and I saw their kicker was 1/3 from long. For a 50 yarder they would've needed 27 yards. For a more reasonable distance, 40+ yards. That's still in the 'play prevent' distance range.

There was nothing wrong with the defensive call. The safety blew it big time. He didn't have anyone else in his zone and was still late getting to the guy running in a straight line downfield.
September 16th, 2017 at 7:41 PM ^
I'd agree that's definitely on the safety, but if you have more people back there and one safety biffs the coverage you've still got a shot at handling the play.

Yep. Then needed Calvin Johnson standing on the goal line.

GATORZ!!!
Neither of these teams actually wanted to win the game, but McElwain boo-booed his way to victory, making us look better!

Purdue is helping out as well. Especially if Louisville comes out and smashes Clemson and makes that Boilermakers loss look better.

Two of those three were 47+ yarders. Far from gimmes in college. I wouldn't call missing those "lucky" for Florida.

I used to feel sorry for Tennessee because they always wound up losing to Florida while Spurrier would tweak their nose.
Not any more. Fuck em, they deserve what they get.

They used to work overtime to pimp Michigan and flaunt the rules. Happier today because they lost in the manner they did. Go Gators.
