OT: Cigar Aficionados - What's your favorite cigar?
It's been a little slow on the board lately, thought I'd throw out a little OT.
I'm sure we've got a few cigar folks on the site, thought I'd get a few opinions as a novice and occasional cigar smoker.
What's your go-to for the following:
Special Occasions?
Golf/Tailgating?
Cheap?
I haven't experienced a lot of different ones yet, but so far I'm a fan of the Rocky Patel 1999 Vintage Connecticuts & Romeo y Julieta's House of Montague(or Capulet for that matter) 6x60s.
Any recommendations on accessories are also more than welcome.
Go Blue!
Macanudo Gold Label. Never had a bad one.
Haven't ventured into the Macanudos yet, but it's on the list to try.
This is 100% true.
Solid if unspectacular.
San Cristobal de la Habana El Morro. Favorite hands down. Quai D'Orsay Imperiales are good as well, but got discontinued for low sales.
I think Cigars are nasty, i dont get their appeal.
So, for me it's a couple of things:
1) I used to chew tobacco and have given that up, successfully. However, I apparently can't be without some type of vice. I seem to be able to stick to being a casual cigar smoker, which is a huge improvement.
2) I enjoy doing it because it means I'm outdoors in a relaxing setting, maybe that's the association.
It's very tough to quit, especially for me when I was almost up to 2 tins/day. I'd been chewing for about 10 years or so. I tried quitting 3-4 times before. The longest I quit for was 8 months at one point, and I was always doing it for someone else. Finally, I decided to quit for myself. I bought some nicotine gum, had one last, nice, long chaw and threw the tin away. The nicotine gum helped (as did leaving the country for a week where I couldn't get my hands on it), and now the occassional regular stick of gum calms most cravings. I won't lie though, every once in a great while I still want to do it. I have to talk myself out of it.
This is true. Nothing beats a Cuban. Although I have friends who have had an aged Le Bijou 1922 by My Father and said that it compares to some Cubans.
*ducks and runs*
You deserve far more upvotes my friend well done
Exploding
I'm a big fan of the Montecristo #2 It's a medium to full body stogie with a perfect burn and draw. It has a really nice smooth yet spiced flavor.
Tried that when I was in Vegas, it was excellent. I forgot about that one.
Used to steal those during outings when we were boy scouts, so they've always been special to me.
They're 99 cents now?
#INFLATION
Love the Torpedos. They are hard to find in Michigan though!
Caldwell Cigars - Eastern Standard and Long Live the King
Tatuaje and My Father also make great cigars.
Wholeheartedly second this. Long Live the King is probably my favorite overall.
Also really dig Neanderthals (although the super high nicotine makes them an infrequent for me) and pretty much anything by Viaje.
that don't make you barf.
So...none.
so it begins...the cigar snobs unite.
Bring it.
No uniting necessary, just not sure why you'd bother to be involved in this thread? lol
Slow OT Season :)
And I have had strong reactions AGAINST cigars in multiple instances, so sure...I'll make a comment.
I was unaware of your previous reactions with cigar posts. Carry on, I enjoy the dissenting opinion.
I'll have to check these out. Great tip, thank you! I prefer a larger ring size, but I'll give it a shot!
My friend's personal favorite so we always have one or three when we're together. Great smoke.
Bought some today, just because of you.
Cedros okay but the province of Duty Free TBH.
You can quite regularly get these at Port Huron. They are not bad but not inspiring either.
Its-a-boys.
This is the kind of OT post I like. Useful and interesting. Thanks
Thanks! Also, amazing avatar.
No kidding. I'm not a cigar person, but I think this soundly beats the "(person unrelated to UMich sports) dies / thoughts & prayers" and "X days until ..." posts.
Interesting discussion takes place. (I see that it already has.) Simple ...
thx for starting it. always like hearing what others are smoking.
and there's and Admiral tobacco outlet in your area, their store brand "Quorum" makes a torpedo that is actually not bad. Around $2.50 a stick.
I've used these before when hosting some "eh" clients on the golf course.. didn't break my wallet.
Got a buddy from Cuba who brings them back for me by the box. Could never afford them on my own but his family works in the plant and gets them for 100 a box.
Other than that I highly recommend Gurkha
I'm located in Canada and it's easy to get Cohiba. They are solid but it seems the name exceeds the cigars now. This is emphasized when you consider their cost.
H. Upmann is a Cuban you might want to take a shot at in the future. Exceptionally nice.
Really late on responding to this, and I'm sure you know, but you sure it is the Cuban one? The DR also makes a cohiba with the same wrapping that is significantly worse. Either way thanks for the rec! Will definitely try :)
black & mild. Go with the quarter size ones.
feel like that didnt show my full knowledge.
Wood tip. Wine flavor. Your Welcome.
Black&Milds are technically pipe tobacco so . . . . .
I have a buddy who always breaks those out when we're golfing. So I smoke 'em.
Aged Maduro
