Desmond Howard signs new multi-year deal to remain at ESPN
Is there anyone cooler than Desmond Howard?
I dunno, but Desmond will never jump the shark though....
Worked out well for Michigan and Desmond. Love him on ESPN.
GO BLUE!!
I guess he's going to be the one to turn the lights off?
The pose. The catch. Super Bowl MVP. Pure class.
Because with out his well thrown balls, Desmond would have never left the building with the Heisman.
Miles or Spurrier would be great in that role.
He'd have a lot of fun with it.
Spurrier --- he'd have fun too, but something tells me he'd prefer to spend his Saturdays golfing. I know Spurrier was "just done with it all", but him quitting mid-season back in 2015 still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. That wasn't good form, he quit on his players. Announce you're done at the end of the year, but still --- stick it out until then.
Mike Leach (when he retires in the next 5-10 years) may honestly be better than either Miles or Spurrier . However, very very doubtful Leach would "make peace" with ESPN, given the past.
Harbaugh in ~10 to 15 years ..... that's feasible too. :-)
I'd like to agree with you about Spurrier, but there's another side that may be in play. He probably left knowing the team would have a better shot without him, and I'm sure he explained that to them. I think the UF Spurrier that bolted for the Redskins probably didn't say a thing. But the USC Spurrier that retired mid-season? I think he was a different coach than the UF version - one not so hell bent on winning and climbing the career ladder. I think he took better care of his players at USC.
Ian Darke!
He clearly lost that appeal though. It is tough to watch on Saturday's now, and not because of what he is saying. It is just painfully obvious that things are moving too quickly for him now and he just cannot do it now. I will forver love Corso for the memories he provided, but father time always wins.
It will never happen, but I'd love to see Des come out on gameday (during THE GAME) and use a little reverse pyschology on the boys. "You know what, Kirk, I'm tired of being wrong every year. I have no choice but to pick o$u. Until the boys come out and prove me wrong, my pick is the ohio state university." And then that'll fire up the boys to go out and win a game. I have seen other analysts go against their teams and take heat for it (mostly in the pros) but I LIKE IT! A realist analyst goes a long ways in my book. Getting a little tired of the homerism year in and year out. Not just with Des but in general. You already know what people are going to say before they even say it.
also glad that Danny Kannel did not (didn't like him before, liked him even less when he talked shit about Jabrill for having a diluted sample without any evidence and saying the following: “I cannot understand how guys can be this dumb where they can’t stay out of trouble in the most important job interview of your life,” Kanell said. “You know exactly when the combine is going to be. All you have to do is stop smoking leading up to it for a month, two months.”). https://www.landof10.com/michigan/jabrill-peppers-diluted-sample-drug-test-danny-kanell
Now if they would just demote Joey Galloway to Assistant Toilet Plunger Technician, they'd really be moving things in the right direction over there.
I'm surprised Desmond made it through the purge as he is not the screaming idiot-head the company seems to favor. But congratulations to him! He makes Gameday that much better...
brings enthusiasm, insight and positivity to the broadcast. Will all of the knuckleheads getting ahead in the sports biz, great to see #21 getting a long-term position.
which makes his million-dollar smile a great asset to their broadcasts. It's infectious and draws people in, which is good, since he actually knows what he's talking about. ESPN has gotten to be too much about drama and gossip, and they need to shift back more to knowledgeable, enthusiastic sports coverage.
And if he's juuuust a bit biased toward Michigan, all the better.
It couldn't have happened to a better guy. Congrats, Desmond!
