JayPa: An Inside Look At A QB Competition
Via Black Shoes Diary, Jay Paterno writes "the Top Ten things I've learned over the years about a being involved in selecting and coaching the Penn State starting quarterback."
I thought it was pretty amusing, and a pretty fitting read here given all the spring speculation going on.
he's not a very good-looking young man.
Please tell me you are female. Or gay. Otherwise, I have no idea why you feel compelled to post this.
And that you have low morals
Baseball on the mind? Or maybe just margaritas?
With D-Train taking the mound... both
to post that? Just curious.
I just wanted to be a jerk. It wasn't that much fun.
that penn st. had there own version of GBMW...
"4. There are always a couple of guys on message boards who report information from an "inside source" at practice. A fan or journalist guessing who will be the starting quarterback is like getting an answer right on a multiple choice test; there are only a few possibilities. Unless they have a plant in the head coach's brain, their "inside source" should be considered suspect."
...this same point here. It would seem to bolster the main point of that thread's OP.
Instead of sitting around writing these articles (on my own dime as a taxpayer, BTW), he should probably be out mowing Michael Robinson's grass for saving his job a few years ago. Not even Daddy's donations to the library could've kept him on campus if it wasn't for Mike shutting up the critics of Nittany Lion quarterback play.
did you ever consider that Mike Robinson and Daryll Clark were the norm and Anthony Morelli (5 star recruit who couldn't even land a free agent job) the outlier, instead of Morelli the norm?
No?
Clark became All Big 10 on luck alone? Hmm. Okay.
Wally Richardson?
Mike McQueary?
Kevin Thompson?
Rashard Casey?
Matt Seneca?
even Zack Mills?
JayPa didn't coach many of those guys
Speaking of the Paternos, has PSU figured out the succession at head coach yet? I assume Bradley is the favorite, but is JayPa still in the mix?
I noticed the article says that Jay Pa is a "political volunteer".
What does that mean? Since he is employed by the state of PA, isn't that a conflict of interest?
Just because someone is employed by the government does not mean that they can be told what they can and cannot do in their free time.
He was a big-time supporter of Obama and was even a featured blogger on the '08 Obama campaign official site. And yes, it was a conflict of interest of sorts (it was really played up here in the State Capitol) because several of his blog posts were date-stamped at late morning and early afternoon times.
In essence, he was blogging about politics while on a State job. There are plenty of examples of people being fired (our fearless leader included) for creating blog content on their own company's time... and that's not even going into the whole political conflict present here. He got out of it with little egg on his face, and there are many in the state that believe his next job will not be on future HC Tom Bradley's staff, but rather in the State House.
It's probably also worth mentioning that several of my diehard Nittany Lion neighbors and friends feel OC Galen Hall is really responsible for Darryl Clark & Robinson's progress, and Jay is still a legacy hire.
are you saying there's nepotism going on at Penn State?
But good point about the date-stamps and state-time etc. I didn't realize it had created a controversy (although I still feel that's a little gratuitous). The only thing I knew about that (I think it was linked on this blog) was that he got into an argument with some PSU fans on the message boards about their offense sucking or something. That was hilarious.
Really? I've heard that JoePa is a major Republican supporter. I'm surprised his son wouldn't follow suit.
just like Bo. but they both had changes of heart.
He writes two sentence paragraphs like a pro. Who'd think he's a better journalist than Drew Sharp.
