You beat me to it.
I am really curious to see what they got in return. Probably a good deal for the skins considering they have had horribly lackluster QB play for the past million years.
Yeah I do wonder what the eagles got back, from everyting they have said I would guess it was the 37th pick, but who knows

You don't see big name players like that traded within the division normally. I wonder if the skins threw something they could not refuse at them.
edit: "Sources said the deal involved the Redskins' second-round pick in the 2010 draft and either a third- or fourth-round pick next year, depending on several factors."
Continuing Daniel Snyder's goal of having as many old Pro-Bowlers on his team as possible.
I kinda feel bad feel bad for Jim Zorn.
As if watching him writhe through those last couple weeks when EVERYONE and their sister knew he was going to get fired wasn't bad enough, now he has to watch the new big name coach get a toy like McNabb. Sure, his best days are behind him, but he's still leaps and bounds ahead of Jason Campbell...
I'm not a skins or iggles fan, but i kinda like McNabb. His "nice guy" persona and his composure when dealing with TO make me want to root for him.
...the 2010 37th pick and the Redskins' 2011 3rd or 4th round pick. This is a huge pickup for the Skins. McNabb still has a lot in the tank and he'll be super motivated to stick it to Philly.
Philly gives up their all time leader in wins for a 2nd and a 3rd/4th to a division rival. Regardless of what you think of the Redskins checkered history of free agent signings in the Snyder era, this is an amazingly good price to pay for someone of McNabb's caliber.
Horrible joke, but it was the best I could think of after a night of heavy drinking followed by enough easter lunch to put me in a food/hangover coma for a week.
...off the phone with McNabb who said he's really excited and he's ready to play ball.
This means the Skins will not draft Clausen (thank God) and they're convinced Bradford will not be available at the 4.
As a Skins fan, I am happy to see this trade for that reason alone. I don't see a scenario where I can root for Clausen.
this could drasticly change the draft. Do you think the Skins now take Berry with the 4th pick?
It'll be Okung or a trade down, where they'll still draft an offensive lineman. Their line is terrible, and their left tackle was forced to retire due to injury.
I agree. OL is a pressing issue that needs to be addressed in the first round. Chris Samuels was the left tackle that retired this year from a neck injury.
McNabb is a free agent next year, maybe it's a plan to have a year for Clausen to sit?
Completely illogical. This is like the Red Wings trading Datsyuk to the Blackhawks. Just...wtf?
McNabb is a veteran, but he's not on his last legs. Washington has a solid foundation......I'm thinking Philly might come to regret this move if McNabb goes into eff-you mode.
is not going to win a Super Bowl.
The organization believes in Kolb, and they have a lot of young weapons on offense.
They are stock-piling picks in this draft and are still a playoff contender w/o Mcnabb.
Trust in a spread college QB. Blasphemy.
/sarcasm
And Reid/Kolb gives them a better chance?
Man does McNabb get a bad rep, and for what? He's been one of football's best quarterbacks for almost ten years....if he doesn't come across the GOAT and the rest of the Pats he'd probably have a SB title too.
Perfect point. Who's the QB in Philly now? And they just fueled McNabb's fire to beat their arss twice next year.
who had some real success while mcnabb was out last season. i suspect that is why the eagles decided to trade him. not trying to say it made sense, but at least they knew that they had a viable #1 in waiting before trading away mcnabb
This is good for McNabb because he could have gone to a real shitter and is instead at a semi-shitter which just got a shot of real leadership.
Still, the ungratefulness of Philadelphia knows no bounds. What a city of idiots. Reid's next.
Yes the Redskins gave up a 2nd round pick in this year's draft (what the Eagles wanted), but the Eagles traded McNabb to a division rival.
I thought it was Professional Team Management 101 to NOT trade one of your best players to a team who you directly compete against during the regular season for a playoff spot.
Good for the Redskins though. Perhaps they can show Donovan the love he was never really shown by the Iggles or their fans...
...will be ecstatic about this trade. We've always respected McNabb as the ultimate competitor. He will get much love but will be under significant pressure to bring us back to the playoffs.
The Eagles are willing to take 6-7 wins for a couple years while they wait for their draft picks to get going. They're a young team anyway. By the time they're back, Donovan will be done.
The team getting screwed here is my Giants, who are absolutely unable to beat McNabb and STILL have to face him twice a year. The Redskins aren't two free wins for the Giants and Cowboys with this trade, and I suspect Reid loves that part too.
as if I needed a dong punch for the NFL as well as Michigan football...
Trading Brown and now McNabb. Did Lurie and Banner not learn about trading away veterans with the Dawk disaster last year? So pissed right now.
Just sucks
I do not like the Redskins at all but the Philly fanbase by and large treated McNabb like shit. Would love to see him make them suffer for it.
My sentiments exactly. This may be the first time I actaully root for the 'Skins against anyone.
I loved Mcnabb and I'm also somewhat with you on this.
I'm an Eagles fan and the fans I hate the most are Cowboys fans, Other Eagles fans, everyone else.
All the stupid other Eagles fans think that they didn't get enough from Mcnabb. HE WENT TO 5 NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES FOR GOODNESS SAKES. I hate to see him go. I realize that Philly can take 2 steps forward from this situation and be a better team, but I jsut want the Eagles to suck so much so that the rest of the fanbase can understand the impact that Mcnabb had on this team.
So many people rip on McNabb. As much as I dislike the Redskins, I'd like to see him get a Super Bowl before he hangs it up.
The media portrays Eagles fans much worse than they actually are, I for one thought McNabb was awesome in his younger years but I was growing tired of the throws behind receivers and the throws straight into the groujd.
I've never understood why Jason Campbell doesn't get any love...his stats seem right in line with what McNabb has done over his career. That's just from an outsider perspective, but I've always thought Campbell was a very solid QB. He was far from the problem in Washington. Perhaps McNabb will be part of the solution more so than Campbell, but meh, I just don't see it.
I suppose McNabb has dealt with the same stuff in Philly, just seems odd to me.
I'd like to see what Jason Campbell could do with any consistency at offensive coordinator/QB coach. I think he always had a different coach every year at Auburn at OC/QB, and that trend continued in Washington, even with Zorn, who was supposed to be there specifically to mold him. But we saw how Washington was willing to bring in a guy who was calling bingo instead of plays this year.
What I don't understand is why Arizona didn't bring in McNabb. With the emergence of Hightower/Wells combo and the talent they have at receiver - Fitzgerald, Breaston, etc, McNabb would be a good fit, and wouldn't have to necessarily win the game on his own. Their situation went from Warner (future HOFer tearing it up late in his career) to Matt "I like to party more than pass" Leinert and Derek "I had 10 good games in Cleveland in 2007" Anderson. Yikes.
Best of luck to both, and screw the Eagles (except Tacopant's real-life friend, Jason Avant).
You Know I was wondering the same thing: Where does J. Campbell play in all of this?
He's been a good QB with decent stats. But with little to no stability around him, makes you wonder what he would have done had he a good team around him.
Maybe the Redskins will trade him now. If that's the case then send him off to the Lions to back-up/compete/start with Stafford. I wouldn't mind seeing him in Honolulu Blue...
Now Clausen will end up somewhere else. I wonder if he could fall like Quinn did?
Good job by the eagles of double-tapping themselves in the head. As soon as Vick or Kolb make a single mistake, the Igggles fans will be throwing batteries.
which could very well turn out to be another Drew Stanton.
Andy Reid evidentally had a big say in this trade and Donovan did not want to go to the Bills or Raiders. Since Reid and Mcnabb were so close they traded him somewhere that he wanted to go to. IME the Eagles are getting younger and figure Mcnabb will not be an issue in a few years when they become real contenders again. An ESPN blog also states that Cambell could get traded to either the Bills and Raiders for a second rounder and they are interested. If that happens, they gor Mcnabb for very cheap. Great move by the Redskins either way.
UM grad broke the story... nice
We learn something every day! I didn't know he was a UM grad. +1 for you.
Michigan football, Michigan basketball, 3 losses to the Dallas Cowboys...
and now this. The year of infinite pain continues. I don't pretend to know more than what has been a successful Eagles front office, but I am pretty sad. This is worse than losing Dawk last year.
Nothing can compare to losing Dawk. He was the heart of the defense and almost every Eagles fans (that I know of) favorite player. This is another dagger to the heart by the Eagles. Remember when us Philly fans used to say why can't the Phillies be more like the Eagles, how much things have changed.
I am a Giants fan and never understood why so many Eagles fans don't like McNabb. He killed us plenty of times.
I can't believe the Eagles traded him to a divisional rival though. I know after how the fanbase treated McNabb he is going to want to get back at them two times a year for a while.
...It was 1964 when the Eagles traded future HOF QB Sonny Jurgensen to the Redskins...
Those who fail to know history are destined to repeat it. The Philadelphia Eagles once traded quarterback Sonny Jurgensen to the Washington Redskins. Sonny went on to reach the Hall of Fame. The Eagles didn't go anywhere with their half of the deal.
