Butt Hurt

Submitted by Esterhaus on
No, not that. Jake Butt, who could have been earning NFL money right now and instead opted to give another year to Michigan. Jake appeared to have suffered a serious leg injury tonight. Let's use this thread to monitor Jake's health status and wish him speedy recovery in full.

Ive always maintained that any player who is pretty much going to be a high pick should never come back for the senior year.

But, after tonight, I feel that if they do come back, stay healthy for the regular season, and its a meaningless bowl game, then its a good idea to sit out.

The more that that happens, the more that the Bowl Games will be for an extra week of practice and an exhibition game for the underclassmen to utilize to get experience.  It will also be good for guys on the NFL fringe, such as Jake Rudock...to showcase their talents.

That would not be a bad thing.

Funny that we're calling the Orange bowl meaningless, but it's true. Watched on DVR at home while multitasking, only had a reaction when Butt went down. "NY6" monikor is a joke because the diff between Orange and playoff is vast, just like the diff rivalry week and the bowls (can you imagine anyone sitting those out?). Was surprised draft locks like Butt played at all. It's probably Harbaugh who inspires them, not the 'significance' of the bowl

No, it's really not true.  There's a fucking mountain of evidence against the idea that the game was "meaningless."  If this many people care who wins, it's not meaningless.  All one has to do is watch bowl games and see the losers be absolutely dejected and the winners be far more elated than they are after winning all their other games.  They dump buckets on their coaches, carry them off the field, gleefully hoist the trophy, celebrate on the field, and generally act in ways they do not after winning a supposedly "meaningful" game against the Rutgers's of the world in October.

Calling these games meaningless is nothing but a way to try and justify the unjustifiable, that is, quitting on one's team and teammates.  It sucks that Butt got hurt.  It really does.  I therefore defy anyone to walk up to him and say, hey, man, stupid decision, how about getting hurt for a meaningless game like that.  We'll see if you get out of there without getting punched in the face.

You just said someone protecting their future finances that could set them and their family up for life is unjustifiable. You need to reel yourself in. The sanctimony in this post is almost palatable. If you actually believe this I hope you have the opportunity in the future to have your priorities reorganized because you're so far removed from reality it's borderline frightening.

Exactly this. Now that he's hurt what are all these people who rail against these guys for sitting going to do for him? Nothing at all sit here and hope for a speedy recovery while He Just potentially lost millions over an exhibition. People have their priorities so twisted when it comes to their entertainment and perceived notions of what others should do.

Once you realize it is an exhibition you don't begrudge them. It's those who are too into their 'fix' and the older generation like my dad who remember 1976 Orange bowl and such. Even the Rose doesn't matter at all, you got 9-3 teams that have lost games by 30 points in there. It's basically the NIT. But people remember 1997 (last year before BCS) and get excited

It's baseless slander and doesn't make any sense anyway. If you have no intention of playing to prevent injury then you also sit out practices to avoid the same. Griese pointed out that he was at practice on Tuesday and Peppers was full speed. If you fake injury then you fake it before practices start. You don't risk it for two weeks of practice only to sit out when NFL eyes are on you.

Mom always said "Don't play ball in the house."

CoverZero always says "Don't come back for your senior season if you will be a high draft pick in the pros."

Always.

Jake Butt is an incredible young man.  Hope he heals up and plays 10 years in the league for the Patriots, and makes millions.

Look across the field at Cook. He was fine. If he wants to come back and take care of unfinished business and get his degree. Let's do it. Take one less freshman in this class, give him his scholarship and let's go back to work. 27. Harris 28. Filiaga 29. Becton 30. Tufele 31. Collins 32. PEPPERS

value of loss is much harder to prove and it would require NFL to tell them of their draft grade on Butt. They cannot go by the draft website and they will tell a far different rankings than what NFL will rank a prospect.

I know this because it's rarely collected unless it's proven that Butt is a 1st/2nd round prospect.  He's not even the top 5 TE in the draft class pre-injury according to the NFL scouts whom I know for a while.
