Some blind optimism for today
Today feels a lot like 12/13/97. Michigan beat #1 Duke in basketball, and that was followed by the Heisman ceremony which resulted in our own Charles Woodson becoming the first and (to date) only predominantly defensive player to win the Heisman.
Today, we face #2 UCLA in basketball while Jabrill attends the Heisman ceremony. While it would be amazing for history to repeat itself, I can't say I'm holding my breath.
Anyway, GO BLUE!!!

Publicity for the program, yes. But "brand" needs to leave the vocabulary.

"Brand" is pretty innocuous. There are innumerable things more deserving of objection.

The brand Elwood the brand.

I don't think you're aware of how much of this country doesn't care about college football, let alone the Heisman Trophy.

No, that was the previous year. 1997-98 was Ellerbe's interim season, when we won the Big Ten Tournament and lost in the round of 32.

That downward spiral year (1996-1997) was very interesting. We started out super hot, beating Duke (at Cameron with a Robert Traylor last second put back) and Arizona (eventual NCAA champs that year with Bibby and Simon). We were on a role, then...(fart noise).
Towards the end of the season, we knew we were on the bubble, but were confident we would get in. The very last game of the year was at Ohio State. And the NCAA tournament selection show was directly after this game. We were getting beat fairly well, but we came back at the end and Maceo Baston hits a miracle shot at the buzzer to take to to overtime. The selection show started regardless while we were still playing in overtime, but we were left out of the tournament. We eventually won in overtime, but it meant jack shit.

If personality is a part of the Heisman, Jabrill is a shoe-in. Couldn't help but smile and laugh watching him on the halftime show of the Army/Navy game. He's just loving life right now and it shows.
