Cincinnati is a better fit for Les Miles than Purdue ever was...we'll see what happens.
I'm sure they'll try and sell PJ Fleck on the Brian Kelly stepping stone route to an elite program as well.
Could also try and lure Charlie Strong with his ties to Louisville.
I don't think the job is THAT good, but Cincinnati actually has more "dream candidates" than most schools right now when you look at the school and the potential hires.
They're in a much better spot than a lot of other big time schools who don't have those big time candidates available (when you compare the coach to the school).
If I was UC, I'd jump at all 3 of those guys knowing you could always settle for the hot assistant coach if they say no.
Greg Schiano is another name that I just thought about.
Schiano, Fleck, Miles, Strong aren't getting a Oregon, LSU, type jobs. That would be a big time settle for those schools (or in Miles' case, LSU is who fired him). But Cincinnati is sort of in a sweet spot that would be a nice landing place if they coughed up the coin.
Far better opportunity than Purdue. In fact, if Brohm would've waited a week, he may have been able to get the Bearcats job. A job where you can win and move on versus a job where you're doomed because even if you go 6-6 for 4 years, people are going to get bored of it and you'll get fired eventually.

why do people dislike tommy tuberville? I am honestly just curious. Did he do something reprehensible or is he just a jerk?

Also in the same Tuberville search...

Am I the only one with some concerns over Fleck? I think he could be a good fit at a school like Cincy, but I just don't think he's ready for big time yet.
Guys who are CEO style head coaches just give me a lot of pause and then couple that with the fact that he's really a rah rah type coach, I'm not convienced.

Cincy isnt exactly big time so it's not a bad place to find out...unless PJ is found out to not be a good coach against a step up in competition.

Yes, we can. Consider: a one loss Navy team from the AAC very well could have jumped Western for their Cotton Bowl spot. There is a clear hierarchy for the G5 and the MAC is down there with Conference USA and the Sun Belt. The MWC and AAC are better. Cincy is also an easier sell in recruiting and has good bones to build on, two of their last three coaches went to much greener pastures than they would have if they stayed in the MAC (Kelly nearly went to Iowa State before Cincy, think about that).

Did they wait until after the selection show to pull the trigger on this just in CASE they got in? Odd timing for the announcement IMO.

Is there enough coaching talent out there this year to justify all these firings?
Really looks like a lot of schools are going to be reaching for guys just to fill spots.
December 4th, 2016 at 1:22 PM ^
For Cincinnati?
Heck yes...this is a GOLDEN year to get a coach that's probably too good for you.
But if you're a school like Texas A&M, no, that's why they didn't fire Sumlin. No one out there is a better option. Same with Gundy at Okie St (who doesn't get along with their top donor).
Oregon HAD to fire Helfrich. Baylor needs a new HC. But you look around and there aren't a bunch of top names.
I love to Row The Boat, but PJ Fleck doesn't do it for me if I'm Texas, LSU, Oregon, OSU, USC, Michigan, Bama, Florida, etc.
But if I'm Cincinnati?!! Hoooo boy. I just named 4 coaches from my couch that I'd go crazy for. Les Miles? Are you kidding me? PJ Fleck? Charlie Strong...yes, even Greg Schiano?! Sign me up if I'm at UC!!
Hell, like I said, even Brohm, or a Major Applewhite or Sonnie Cumbie or Lincoln Riley wouldn't be a HORRIBLE hire. Those are the names you would've expected in a normal year. But you're telling me I can fire Tommy Tuberville and hire one of those first 4? Bearcats are in a VERY good place.

Willie Taggart
December 4th, 2016 at 1:43 PM ^
Seems like a lateral move for him. I believe someone on this board linked him to Oregon?
December 4th, 2016 at 1:59 PM ^
They're in the same conference. That doesn't make any sense.
He'd be going from a ranked team in the conference to an unranked team.
That would be like Narduzzi going to UVA or something.

I should have been more explicit. I was not referrring only to the Uof C job.
My point is that Taggart's name should be out there in the media more for HC jobs in general given what he has done.

Harbaugh is in play...take it to the bank. What? Hell hasn't frozen over? Ok. Harbaugh will respectfully decline all things Ohio.

Haven't you heard? Greg Schiano is totally a candidate for Oregon. Definitely Purdue too. And Houston. BTW I am assuredly not Greg Schiano's agent.
December 4th, 2016 at 2:05 PM ^
Now that you mention it, there is a certain understated poetic quality to the idea of Greg Schiano going to Purdue, if that's what you're into when it comes to coaching hires, that is. I never quite thought about it that way before. Tell me more, not Greg Schiano's agent....

Probably why so many openings.

Jobs
WMU
Oregon
Houston
WKy
Cincinnati
Indiana
Peeps
Miles
Helfrich
Strong
Hoke (?)
Fleck
Kiffin (going to work with O?)
Tuberville
Wilson
is Schiano looking to jump from OSU?
I probably am only at 50% here.
My sole prediction is that Bryan Harsin goes to coach Oregon. I think he's proven enough, he's had success, and he's worked the region enough to have ties.

Has Dungy and Harbaugh on his side.

Tommy Tuberville at Cincy always felt like an awkward marriage. TT always struck me as a run-first, run-second, play defense kind of guy, or at least he did at Auburn. I suppose his stint at Cincy wasn't as weird a fit as the time he spent at Texas Tech. Now that was weird!
December 5th, 2016 at 8:55 AM ^
It always seemed to me that it was part of their attempt to sell themselves to the Big 12.

If he only he didn't shit the bed at Oregon he may have a shot.
He'd be lucky to get a sniff at WMU if/when Fleck leaves.
