I'm sure this will cause no controversy whatsoever. /sarcasm

Glad you posted this twice as I agree with every single word. +1 to both.

But, but, it's just a vocal minority of the PSU fanbase that's delusional.

Temple is the perfect opponent to have during a celebration like this. Maybe Bill Cosby can come hand out pudding pops laced with sedatives and remind everyone to be quiet.
September 1st, 2016 at 3:18 PM ^
Nobody at Temple is proud of his long term association with our school given the knowledge of these allegations. This is markedly different than Penn State and Paterno who remains both revered and beloved.
Thankfully the trustees have basically disassociated with him. Like most in the TU alumni family we hope he gets whatever punishment the legal system finds him to deserve.

"hand out pudding pops laced with sedatives and remind everyone to be quiet."
Picturing that is comedy gold. Would make an excellent SNL / South Park / Family Guy sketch,

Who thought this was a good idea?
edit: also... can we not with the rape jokes?

To hell with Penn State and their sycophants and enablers. Bottom Line.
And as a Temple alum:

All rise and turn their backs for a moment in honor of the victims--and in protest at the ongoing stupid.

Wait until the media gets hold of this.
No. Way. This. Happens.
September 1st, 2016 at 3:10 PM ^
I can see a bunch of wanker alums or delusional fans trying to get this off the ground. How in the hell does this pass the smell test with actual PSU higher ups that make the real decisions? My dear lord.
September 1st, 2016 at 3:34 PM ^
Completely agree. How the fuck could anybody see this as a good idea? They should be putting all of their efforts into distancing themselves from any reminder of Paterno. To me it's like watching a kid hit a beehive with a baseball bat and having the bees come out and sting the shit out of him only to hit the beehive again once the bees stop. Let the shit go. They deserve everything bad that happens to them. They must be thinking "eh what the hell everybody's shitting on us anyway, we might as well have fun with our delusional fan base."

I used to love Joe Pa he was one of the greatest of all-time. When the news first came out I thought there was no way he could have been involved. Now I can't stand the thought of Joe Pa. What an awful person he was to let this go on.
September 1st, 2016 at 3:14 PM ^
He stayed in power way too long but still one of my top most respected coaches in CFB. Then all the stuff came out...
September 1st, 2016 at 3:19 PM ^
Same here! Growing up in Philly, Penn State was my favorite college football team (to the extent that I cared). All the other ones stunk.
When I found out what JoePa did, I was shocked. I saw him as the gold standard in college football.

and I second the emotion...
FUCK PENN STATE!
September 1st, 2016 at 3:11 PM ^
This is some really disturbing stuff. What the hell is wrong with these people?! Penn State has somehow managed to become my most hated team in ANY sport. I really hope they keep making Franklin-esque hires after he gets fired in the next couple years.
September 1st, 2016 at 3:11 PM ^
Temple is now my new favorite team. I dont know if they're any good or not but I sure as hell hope they kick the shit out of PSU.
September 1st, 2016 at 3:16 PM ^
I hope every team they play kicks the shit out of them. Not a single team I'd rather see go winless at this point.
September 1st, 2016 at 3:20 PM ^
Temple beat Penn State last year. It's also the game where a 2 man rush hilariously ended in a sack.
September 1st, 2016 at 3:39 PM ^
Enjoyed that one.
September 1st, 2016 at 4:23 PM ^
So the C, LG, LT, & TE all just watch that DE bust through and sack Hackenburg. Amazing
September 1st, 2016 at 4:28 PM ^
Yup. I like to imagine what's going through the RG and RT's minds when they turn to see Hack on the ground. WTF?

I understand having a hard time letting go of someone you admired. I do. I understand the desire to honor someone that did a lot of stuff that people feel important.
But this is absurd. It's not like he's been out of the news--bad stuff has been streaming out this offseason! The book isn't even closed yet! And it's not like he is still around and this is their last chance to recognize him while he's alive.
This is a terrible idea at a terrible time. How tone-deaf can you be?
September 1st, 2016 at 3:24 PM ^
There's a lot of gray in the story, a lot of shaky accusations. I'm not trying to debate that. Don't care. Just saying that the fan base in general doesn't believe Paterno ever did anything wrong, and that's why stuff like this keeps happening.
But just look at the responses in this thread. This is the current national temperature of Joe Paterno. How can anyone green-light this? You're just begging to once again make yourself a lightning rod for harsh criticism.
September 1st, 2016 at 3:39 PM ^
At their free scout site there was a thread started saying that psu will never get things right until the school apologizes to Sue Paterno. There are quite a few over there that suscribe to this thought. I'm not sure if enough time can pass to get that mindset gone.
September 1st, 2016 at 4:16 PM ^
Looks like Penn State is working out of the PR playbook called "How to take a bad story and make it last."

Well, the Penn State game against Temple is at noon on the 17th of this month. DO NOT tune for the Penn State game that day in particular because holy shit, that's just amazing, the level of delusion and denial that allows them to honor him even in death.
Please let James Franklin's season go off the rails so they can hire a better joke, a 4-8 sort of joke. Maybe even better than that perhaps.
September 1st, 2016 at 3:25 PM ^
Amen. No need to tune into any PSU games as far as I'm concerned, but especially this one. Completely ridiculous.
September 1st, 2016 at 9:48 PM ^
I'm tuning in to watch Temple deliver an ass kicking and this time in Happy Valley.
September 2nd, 2016 at 1:11 AM ^
Please let James Franklin's season go off the rails so they can hire a better joke, a 4-8 sort of joke.Eh, I'm OK with Franklin being there. The problem with the 4-8 guys is that they quickly flame out and the school might hire a quality replacement. Franklin's just mediocre enough to hang around awhile.

That said, I find it highly unlikely Bo would have covered up child sexual abuse:
