Programming Note: MSU Spring Game on BTN at 3:00 Today

Submitted by FauxMo on
Now, I know we are supposed to pretend like MSU (and sometimes OSU) don't exist, but I for one an keen to watch MSU's spring game today. I want to see if their QBs can actually throw the football, or if there will be a big drop-off this year. Of course, with their secondary also pretty suspect, who knows if we'll be able to draw any conclusions about their QBs. Finally, I am dying for Mike D'ant'oni's post-game interview, which should be hilarious as always...

Damion Terry shot-puts the ball and looks pretty terrible.  O'Conner can at least throw a decent ball and has a few good throws already on the first drive.

I guess if you wanted to skip your radiation treatment and stand in front of TV, great, then turn it on.

I know I'm biased and its a spring game but I feel like in terms of the eye test, Michigan looks like a much better team in terms of size and athleticism. I thought our execution was better too. Just my thoughts.

Agree, although MSU looks better than I thought they would. Their QB looks solid and their D back 7 flys around. Their O Line looked pretty good. I think their D Line is a big drop off for them, but I could see their back 7 being really good. They could win 8 or 9 games. 10 would be overachieving.

Re: the patches. -- Saw a tweet from Brian earlier...."Maybe they'll score this time with them on".

I have tried to watch several of the spring games on BTN while doing other things so have only seen bits and pieces. It's hard to tell much imo. What I did see....

OSU -- Barrett's throws remind me a lot of Denard --really winds up and loops his throws -- but with Meyer's system (ala RR) and the speed of the guys he will throw to I don't think it's gonna hurt them. The other QBs seemed quite a big step down. Webber looked pretty good (sigh).

PSU - could be a long year from them if they can't run consistently. QBs looked meh and the D looked a bit shaky. -- think it was an O v D game so it was more representative than ours IMO.

Wisconsin - Also O v D -- almost exact same look as PSU - pass defense looked pretty bad vs meh QBs.

MSU thus far - O'Connor better not get hurt. Terry doesn't look great so it would be DeWeaver (meh but true Frosh caveat) or the RS F Lewerke if O'Connor goes down. O'Connor seems to stare down his receivers quite a bit. Lots of wide open receivers but looks like they are running a lot of zone (depth/experience with a true split-squad game?). Have heard Nicholson's name quite a bit, may be the year he makes a jump to good/solid.

Good breakdown.  I didn't see OSU or MSU, but I caught a little of the PSU game and have to agree.  Franklin is going to feel it this year without the great defenses he's had in years past, and at this point it's becoming pretty clear that his QB mentoring isn't particular good.  I mean, Hackenberg had problems, but nobody seems able to throw the ball on that team.

Thus far watching they look mediocre.. Just like when cousins left. The offense will be average, looks like corley is their best wr.. Jourdan Lewis and company won't have a problem shutting down their wrs

The only thing I'm jealous about for them is that they get to have their game this far into April. It would be so much better if we didn't have it so early. I realize Michigan gets out this week but isn't the second week of April enough time?

That you like to watch their games but I just don't know why that is worthy of a port on this forum.

I could care less about anything that Sparty does.

As most have mentioned spring games are nothing much to take anything from BUT they are a good indication of where a team stands and th chemistry of players in a game like situation. Last year our spring game was one of the worst i remember, we couldnt score and nothing was working properly. This year our spring game seemed like the guys were in sync with each other and it was fun to watch. Bad spring games don't necessarily show how bad a team is but it can show a lot of weakness in a team

I am not sure why so many are concerned about spring ball. It's a glorified practice game. What you see isn't going to be what you get at the start of September. Maybe one will glean something from it but so much will happen from now until the beginning of the season. MSU will always come ready for a Michigan game. And does anyone not remember that the back up QBs came in to play against OSU and that MSU won that game?

To be fair, they beat OSU with those 2. I know the Bucks laid an egg that game(looking ahead to the GAME) but they played well enough to beat a top 2 team just the same.

They will be serviceable and certainly better than Threetidan since at least one can run and one may be able to pass.

the previous years staee dominated us at the line of scrimmage, but last year we more than held our own. We are gonna stuff staees running game and get a W in E. Landfill.

We should be favored over MSU this year on the road.  But we were favored at home against them this year too.  They actually looked pretty talented, but I thought we looked more polished in our Spring game.
